This video could be like an analogy to life, some guys get a guitar or a bass and feel grateful, but then comes this guy which is given a cowbell and owns the show. It's not about what you were given, it's how you work with it.
personally i dont think the cowbell guy stole the show at all. i pay just as much attention to the other band members, the way the bassist and guitarist move around the stage and with their instruments, the squealing vocals, i mean even the drummer is dancing. theyre all contributing a considerable amount of stage presence, complete group effort imo
For me, that performance with cowbell was the heart of the show. If I'd shown that much energy & passion on the triangle, maybe I wouldn't have been relegated to "third beggar" at my Year 3 production of Oliver. (Sigh) opportunity missed.
It's the bass player who's holding the whole thing together. The drummer is really loose, love his drumming and then the guitarist can explore the space 'cos of the great rhythm being held down by the bass. And he does. Great performance. And unusually for an American band, they actually look great.
@@vanessa0111 I said that unusually for an American band, they look great. You've responded to something completely different. Good luck if you can actually find anything that comes close to this greatness: ruclips.net/video/ydLcs4VrjZQ/видео.html That's pre-MTV, Vanessa.
God I love these guys. Their music just keeps getting better and better. Plus, how can you go wrong with that much cowbell and a a funky ass drummer that hops around on his stool that much? Honestly... they rule.
I've just fallen in love with these guys. Any band that has the guts to dance gets my approval. (I agree with the person who said he looks oddly like Napoleon Dynamite -- I thought I was going mental.)
SO now when I'm 40 and think... This is the kind of music that was released when i was 20 and I feel good. Stil felt like something new was happening. Rarely anymore nowadays.
I seen them do this at 'T in the park' (UK music fest') around 2003, I think. They were fucking excellent and the cowbell was on TOP form. SHAAKE DOWWNNNN!!!!!!!!
I was there. I don't think I've ever danced harder in my whole life 😆 An open air set that felt like a sweaty nightclub, everyone dancing their asses off. Amazin
Our school band "return of the quim" covered this song back in school for battle of the bands night liie 15plus yr ago. Think we came second cos this older 6th form jazz band was on and half the room were their mates who voted for them but we clearly had way more vibe than them haha . Anslow if youre still out there you rocked those vocals dude .
I think the cowbell player is like the best friend that they just couldn't kick out because he paid for all of their equipment or has great music gig hookups such as David Letterman.
It's a great song. The vocals are a la Cure, the bass is a la New Order, and the mix is a la LCD Soundsystem. The studio version sounds a little better though... the guitar and echo are a little out of sync and the cowbell is obtrusive (on the album, it's much more integrated).
@Procella They haven't disappeared, they're still doing gigs but they've been working on their third album release, possibly due out later this year. The bassist did leave the band, though. And I think the latest song they released is called NO SEX FOR BEN, you can look it up. Timbaland produced it and it is sweet.
They seem to sync up with the echo effect only after they started, after they slowed down to match it. Ordinarily his shrieking singing hits it perfectly, a little sedate in this
I've been coming back to watch this performance since I was a kid in the mid-2000s and I still love it!
Seeing them live back in the day was incredible
This video could be like an analogy to life, some guys get a guitar or a bass and feel grateful, but then comes this guy which is given a cowbell and owns the show. It's not about what you were given, it's how you work with it.
one deeper
That is the most profound thing I've read in weeks. God Bless the cowbell!
or the drugs you take
Gabriel Andruzzi. Absolute legend in cowbell circles.

He's really exploring the space w/ that cowbell!
Interpretive dance cowbell, can't go wrong
MORE or less
The cowbell dude totally earned his spot and my respect.
It's an important part of the song - adds all-important syncopation 👍
@@dvdny Bez gets a cowbell!
Who could rock that hard with that?
I know nothing about drumming, but the drummer is what makes the Rapture even better! He's sitting, yet it doesn't stop him from dancing. Super cool.
A bassline that won't quit!
hell yes
WHAT A BANGER OF A BASS LINE
For me, that performance with cowbell was the heart of the show. If I'd shown that much energy & passion on the triangle, maybe I wouldn't have been relegated to "third beggar" at my Year 3 production of Oliver. (Sigh) opportunity missed.
The cowbell guy is so intense. Miss those guys, hell.
the cowbell is amazing, such a legend for doing that on live tv

They look like they’re from Italy, no?
Aw hell no why you hating on American bands. So many great American bands especially from this era of rock early ‘00

That's pre-MTV, Vanessa.
They sound like a British group. Hard to believe they come from Brooklyn
@@Jermthatormentor I legit thought they were British lol
I saw these guys at The Showbox in Seattle years ago, and they blew the roof off the place with this song.
I was there and I still have fond memories of this show.
The guy really explores the space ... Fantsatic song!
I remember watching this live on tv and that's how I discovered the rapture. my friend and i were like woah. cool. Echoes is a great album.
I watched this on live tv with 4 other people who were so disappointed and I was in love !
God I love these guys. Their music just keeps getting better and better. Plus, how can you go wrong with that much cowbell and a a funky ass drummer that hops around on his stool that much? Honestly... they rule.
Hell yea!
I saw these guys open for BRMC in Seattle years ago and they brought the house down with that song. Place went apeshit.

I've just fallen in love with these guys.

man these guys have a lot of energy
"Okay Bob, you play drums, Joe, you play bass...... oh and John, why don't you play the cowbell?"
"AWWW! Come on guys, I ALWAYS play the cowbell :( "
I'm more impressed by his dancing than his cowbell playing.
2023 y aún rifa esta rola. Ojalá que salgan a tourear otra vez porque nunca los vi en vivo
The rapture always does somethig so unique. I love them
@liquidhead I checked the performance and really is superb! thanks for showing me this ...
I always joked about always playing the cowbell. This guy knocked it out of the park!
So good and entertaining, I watched it twice in a row.
It's sad that they kind of disappeared recently, it's almost 4 years since the last album. I hope they release something new soon.
