It's amazing that they can pull it off at all live, And if you actually went to a gig I think you'd be impressed at how good a band like this can sound live. Their records are very tightly produced with loads of electronics and editing, so you have to accept that it's going to sound different live. Surely that's the whole point of a live band. All the best bands don't actually sound like the record most of the time, and that's what makes them (and live music) great!
I remember catching this on Letterman just by accident-- I stared at the TV in disbelief for the entire four minutes. Epic, awesome song. A love affair was born.
How bizarre: I'm a huge Talking Heads fan and I never liked this song when it came out (maybe because of the video, or because of the "Daft Punk" mention, a band I used to link with commercial, vacuous dance music). Only a few years later did I realize it sounds a lot like Talking Heads and now I enjoy it.
It sounds different because James Murphy plays almost all, if not all, of the instruments on the studio version/music video. This version has a live band, as a result, each player puts their own flair on the tune so it comes out sounding quite different than the original version.
i have to go on here a little. this is so much better than the plastic corporate rock shit that they feed us on the radio and tv. youtube is helping music get better.
Five geeks take on 'The Man' and fucking win! So much better than some of their slightly sloppy live performances. Lovin' the glam rock 'hand claps' from the house band! LCD are the band we all want to be a member of, aren't they?
i think its important tot remember that stuff recorded live directly (as in not via a microphone) sounds VERY different to what the audience hears. This sounds like it owuld be fab to hear live, even if you think it sounds a little weak here, which i dont think it does.
James Murphy looks like a rebellious James Corden here.
Lol 💀💀💀💀
If James Corden was actually good at something
@@ProphecyNimbus30904 James Murphy will forever be the better James.
@@ProphecyNimbus30904 yeah: playing cowbell
What a thing to say about another human being
the cow bell solo gave me chills...
Needs more cowbell IMO
WHAT A LOSER.
More cowbell , please!

I remember catching this on Letterman just by accident-- I stared at the TV in disbelief for the entire four minutes.
Epic, awesome song. A love affair was born.

This is "LCD Soundsystem" and they're singing a song titled "Daft Punk is Playing at My House" - Cheers.
They have come a long long way in their live performances.

Did you take a pill?
I was there
Was that the gig that Nancy talked about? At Space?
@@grrggrrg4805 that'd be so cool
That was definitely one of the better talkshow live performances I've seen. Good stuff.
the cowbells really tied the performance together
I saw them around this time in Toronto, on the same bill with MIA.
yeah i think his latest endeavor was teaming up with andre 3000 to write a song to sell converse shoes or something
live version so good, very talking heads !
some talking heads' cd in your house too?
SO much BETTER than Talking Heads.
...based on?
Why cant we just enjoy two obviously awesome things without comparing and rating them?

Its weird how awkward they seem!
excited far more than awk, I say
They seem more comfortable these days.

Thank you so much for sharing this!
these guys nailed this live this sounds killer.

@Posterharpua dude absolutely! live version > studio version. saw lcd live a couple of weeks ago. freakin' unreal!
i'm just now figuring out that you can listen to music sober. it's not as bad as i feared. the endless party is getting tired.
SNL show on 2/26/22 brought me back here. Legendary band
the best in this video is to see the Late Show's band members enjoying the song!
same here. exact same story. that was about a year ago. been hooked ever since.
Their live CD is simply outstanding, far better than studio, believe it or not! Very impressive!!!
Amazing live performance
they sound GOOD. thanks for posting
16th World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has really let himself go
There's a freakout brewing in my house! My house!
Wow, he's channeling David Thomas !
Such a great band. And I miss Letterman. …2 things I love.
I was so sad when i found out these guys were disbanning.. love these guys
Wonderful! I'm very proud of you.
You should check out the "London Sessions" version of this song. It's basically a studio version of this live version...
Glad you like the video guys :).
Awesome!
This song kicks ass
This is a great band! Great music!
saw their concert... it's amazing. this guy is such a cute one
Amazing solo!
@SlapHappyJesus I agree, they are pretty good live. My personal favorite band live is Iron Maiden. Not quite same genre but still amazing live.
C'mon out and play again LCD! Pleeeeeeeeeease?
+neallionaire wish granted?
After a 5 year retirement t, LCD Soundystem is touring again this summer (2016)
amazing!!!!
Daft Punk is no longer playing at my house
I was waiting for this
Dammti, Letterman always get´s the best Bands
SO AWESOME!!!!
i have to go on here a little. this is so much better than the plastic corporate rock shit that they feed us on the radio and tv. youtube is helping music get better.
Indeed
Love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!
For the record, the thing James Murphy plays during the solo is not a cowbell, it’s an agogo bell
He now has someone hand him it when playing live 👍🙏👍
@Nicolette233 Name of the song is daft punk is playing at my house
GREAT FUCKING BAND
1:44 aka replay button for the mini cowbell solo
They are different live. Like the recorded stuff better, but that's cause I'm electronica guy. Thanks for the upload.
For all the electronics, people seem to forget that dude has pipes.
Five geeks take on 'The Man' and fucking win!

I love the Soulwax version even more
that would be amazing.
much more funky than the cd version, but murphy's obviously stressed :P

Absolutely.
Nice! Thx.
@Nicolette233 the song's name is Daft Punk is playing at my house
Hope you got that answer a bit earlier

Am I the only fan who knows that this stuff is true? Daft Punk DID play at James Murphy's house........and gladly. BB
Captain Bart -Ick! Douche chills!!
Whilst we're talking songs that sound similar...
Devo - That's good
3 great songs, 3 great bands all pioneering in their own way. Love it.

@SlapHappyJesus well I'm sorry to hear that what bands do you go to see live?
Like the difference from the studio version
what was james thinking with those trousers? Awesome rendition though, looking forwards to sound of silver
@339luke Never thought about it. After I've listened to this...thing... I completely agree.
@ox092 Yeah :) They pack a punch live, they are great
I gotta have more cow bell.
@NewarkWilder1
Should be called "We're playing at LCD Soundsystem's House"
More COW BELL. Awesome.
everyone loaves cowbell!
man this is way better live than the studio version...electric dynamite goddanmit!
Two bass players?
psychedelichile in many ways it'd be weirder that theyd only have two bassist as opposed to more
strawberrykicker2 the more bass the better
I love at 2:22 the bass player behind is like........yeah we are so good....oh yeah....we are..
@SlapHappyJesus do you ever watch anyone play live? I mean these are good, but there are tons of great live bands.
1:44 COWBELL SOLO!!!!!!!
