HOME AMONG THE GUM TREES

This song was written on 1974 by Captain Rock (Wally Johnson and Bob Brown) as an entry to the Australian National Anthem Quest run by the Australian government to find a replacement for 'God Save the Queen' as Australia's national anthem. The Australian Council For the Arts eventually settled on 'Advance Australia Fair' but this song became a hit when it was covered by John Williamson.
I heard for the very first time in 2021, on the day I received my Australian citizenship - and I was intrigued. It described the main essence of why I fell in love with Queensland - the gum trees, the animals, the birds.
I said to myself:
One day, I'll sing this with a jazzy vibe 🤲😍
