- This song was written on 1974 by Captain Rock (Wally Johnson and Bob Brown) as an entry to the Australian National Anthem Quest run by the Australian government to find a replacement for 'God Save the Queen' as Australia's national anthem. The Australian Council For the Arts eventually settled on 'Advance Australia Fair' but this song became a hit when it was covered by John Williamson.
I heard for the very first time in 2021, on the day I received my Australian citizenship - and I was intrigued. It described the main essence of why I fell in love with Queensland - the gum trees, the animals, the birds.
I said to myself:
One day, I'll sing this with a jazzy vibe 🤲😍
It was so awesome to see this show at BJC.
