Haven’t completed video yet,,, start and stop a dozen times to make notes,, by far this is the single most valuable video I’ve ever had the blessing to watch,, I found myself in a position where I have to cut my own hay and you sir just made it as simple as 1 2 3 ,, thank you thank you thank you may Jesus bless you
another option for the small scale haying is using a scythe, pitchfork, and hayrakes, an average person that is expierenced mower can mow an acre of grass in about 10 hours
I like your video, however there is some of the information that is hard to agree with. The Bush Hog can be used to mow hay! King Kutter used to make what is called a hayside Brush Cutter with a removable side just for that. You could still do that today by removing the proper side. Next is the drum mower, I have one, its a ccm 165, really like it, but weight wise nothing short of a 50 hp utility tractor is going to run it! You can Power it and turn the blades with a lawn mower ( if it had a PTO) But. I have a 30hp new holland compact tractor with loader and loaded tires, spread wide. The tractor weighs 4000lbs +or- with loader and bucket and it will not even hardly pick the drum mower off the ground much less swing it to the side to use. Again the best value in making your own hay is NOT new equipment, It's finding the right equipment on the used market and knowing what you need to buy! Also if you buy a tractor and hay equipment you mite as well buy you a tool box....because you are going to need it and the tools to go in it....new equipment or not!
Thanks a bundle for watching! A "regular" style rotary cutter is going to chop grass into too small pieces. Specialty-type cutters may work fine, Ive found the "normal" bush-hog (rotary cutter) wont. I have used a drum mower very successfully for some time with my 32hp Kubota. My 32hp machine lifts and runs my Farm Maxx drum mower with no issues. You are right, need to be mechanically-minded to be a hay farmer, things break and happen to the best of machines. Good deals out there for used equipment if you're careful and know what to look for and to buy. Appreciate you watching, thanks a bundle!
Hello I'm having some issues that I can not figure out,on setting up the Drum mower. FDM165 doing every thing you said falls all into place the pin in the middle of the slide bar. so when I go into trans port mode i pick up mower a little put the transport bar down try to pick up mower it comes up but not like it should it picks up the beam and then finally the mower but the beam but is not quite what u are showing in video . my arms on on the three point hitchslide on tha long pin that comes with the mower and so center of gravity to lif the mower to move it into trans port mode is impossible did your mower come with the long pin for cat2 on one side and cat one on the other wished could send u pics both pull the pin way out almost to the end where where the small hitch pin is to keep it from pullin thru. my english not to good is my second language sorry so i dont quite know how to explain myself thank you.
Yes my FDM135 came with both cat 1 and 2 reversible hookup pins. Are you hooking your lower 3 point arms to the outside of the mower category pins or the inside? Hay mowers can be dangerous if unfamiliar with them and how they operate, as can all tractor hay implements. I’d strongly suggest a visit to your county extension office and ask for someone to stop by that’s experienced in hay equipment and have them look at your issue and offer advice. Much of this by typed word is hard to relay. The extension office would probably assist you in your first time cutting/ baling as well. Please use caution and do so at your own risk. Best advice I could give you is to seek in-person advice from someone local that is experienced in hay equipment.
Good Day I have just received my equipment from carver . I have slot of issues getting it set up .the Tender went ok The baler went ok some what slot of questions.I'm starting on mower tomorrow is a FDM 165 manual lift. I'm finding no assembly instructions. I'm not a master mechanic by all means is just myself and the wife. Not really slot of friends if any. Do I need the the spacers for mower to raise the mower did buy buy the kit u had a video on this which I can't find. Is there a assembly video for there's 165 thank you sorry for all the questions.
Good luck with the hay equipment! Ask Carver Equipment if they have any assembly instructions for the mower. My 135 hitch assembly was very heavy and took me and another friend to get into position to bolt up. On the cut lift kit, start out with just 1-2 spacers and try the mower to see how you like the cut. I wouldn’t suggest just putting a bunch of spacers on right from the start. If your hay fields are rough and bumpy, I feel adding too many spacers could possibly make the mower not cut as cleanly.
Just wanted to tell you Thank you for all of your help. We broke some square bales open wife and I spread them out and baled hay we bales 4 bales and everything is Working awesome with our baler Bales turned out 21”x 26” and all pretty uniform. I did the bucket thing like you have but for some reason it is breaking out where I put the clamps I just used a standard 5gal bucket. Did the hole on bottom feeding twine perfect and everything is working except the bucket. We got 4in of rain last night and we were going try the mower after watching your videos over and over. We have learned so much thru your segments. Thank u so much for you taking so much time out of your family life to make theses Perfect. And most of all easy to learn. I’m sure there will be questions on the mower after we get it going hay not ready yet so much rain and can’t seem to get a window wich is ok because we are finally and hopefully figuring this out.

Exactly right! Before all this equipment thats the way it was done!
Thanks for video! On Drum Mower is that tractor hp or pto hp?
@@jacklowe3788 On my Kubota tractor engine hp is 32, PTO is 27. Specs on hp to run implements should be PTO power I would assume.
