For off road trailers I'd replace the ball and hitch with an eye and pintle hook hitch for better articulation. Ball hitches are for paved roads only good for side to side pivoting not up and down. Plus you want a little weight on the tongue to push down the rear tires of the RTV for more traction going up hills.
Just discovered you and this channel within the past two weeks and can't stop watching. Such great information and a fun way to learn/watch. Keep it up!
3k for that trailer is insane. If you need it I guess it’s 3k well spent but dam I just bought a 5x10 enclosed v- nose trailer for $3050. I’m just blown away by that price but I assume it caters to government and private fire agencies that have that kind of money. $1500 I could understand 3k nope. Good for you tho sweet little setup.
Idk man, I will probably get blocked for this.. Great rig for sure and have loved your content for some time. But you sir, have the tools and ability to teach. Maybe I'm alone but seems I've been seeing a lot of the best of the best tools and equipment that $ can buy... I miss what you were taught by Grandad, and could fabricate (even with welds that others mock), make it work, and work well. Us "professional homeowners" even on the East coast who have skills, also have a buget. Maybe you are teaching an expenditure/unlimited budget lesson lately.. idk. I do thank our Lord and hope hope he keeps you well in these and all our times ahead.
I agree. I love his videos but your right. I know RUclipsrs get paid and with 1.78m subscribers, it must be a lot. The new truck and a camper. He seems to spend $1000s like we spend pennies.
he is doing quite well . and we keep watching. at least the money is going for stuff we can relate to unlike what a movie star or pro sports figure blows money on.
I miss the videos from 3-4 years ago when there were life lessons, when he built fire kits, or bug out bags, how to prepare your home, and the list could go on; or when he would teach, like you mentioned. Nowadays it seems all we get are videos based off of what companies or people sent him in the mail. Frustrating to say the least.
@@keehncommando Yes. I've got some videos over on my channel and one of them is how I make signs such as that one. I also made a sign for Andrew Camarata that he has up in his shop.
These trailers start at just over $3k; a pair of the axle-less suspension arms on the bottom (made by flexiride) will set you back $400, a pair of runflat tires and rims about $200 a tire, so it looks like assembly and steel must be the other $2,200? definitely could build a trailer just like this for well under half, and that's using the same quality components.
All comes down to time and money. Your average Joe has more time, I'd say the past 2 years videos have been a good indication he's making enough dough that the money isn't a problem for him. No shame in spending time or money, some of us just have more of 1 than the other
It’s a neat rig, but I’m not sure the effectiveness for fighting a forest or brush fire. I think it could serve a purpose on a worksite as a ‘fire watch’ tool. I don’t see 85 gallons helping much to respond to a fire on ones property.
A large ABC fire extinguisher on top of each tread to deal with any small car fire/plus their good at knocking bush fires with their power, to finish off with the water and you're golden
I think I would add a swivel hitch to the front of the trailer, that way if the trailer flips it won’t flip the tow unit and vice a versa. Works great on the trailer I tow behind my Harley and would allow more articulations between towed and the tower I put slime in the tires on my sons bikes when they were young to save them from having flat tires out where I lived at the time
Personally Cody, I'd run a swivel or pintle hitch for the trailer, and set the trailer rideheight at least 2 inches taller. Ground clearance is king, and it would help to set the draw bar even to slightly downhill.
If you call a rock quarry, usually there is old rubber conveyor belts that are available so you can install that rubber barrier between tank and trailer. Tell them you just need a small piece or a couple small stripes they more than likely will give it to you for free. You might have to put 2 24" belts next to each other depending on availability. Belt dimensions are usually 24" 30" 36" 42" 48" and sometimes larger.
We have a Honda Pioneer 1000 - we can put a 300 litre (80 gallon) poly tank in the tray, and tow a fire trailer which is just a 1,000 litre (260 Gallon) IBC. As others have mentioned, this is all very well until you consider the output of the pump - it's doing about 200 litres (50 gallons) per minute at pressure, meaning fully loaded, you've got around 7 minutes of water. You have to be *very* strategic in how you use your water.
•This is at least the third Wranglerstar firefighting trailer. They ALL have been good ides. But I think the operation has become simpler. •Don't forget the safety chains on the hitch. •Isn't the fore-and-aft balance on all trainers supposed to be X amount heavier on the tongue? •I don't know about the Northwest but in California all logging operations are required to have similar trailers handy for initial attack on any little fire they may (accidentally) cause.
I would love to see how to deal with all those many vehicles when it comes to cleaning them and making sure you remove all that dirt/ wash them to prevent rust! Please make a video on that. Thanks.
Wranglerstar is just one of those channels that you know you can just hit the like button while the ad is still playing...and I always do. I love the way you've been encouraging hitting the like button recently and think it's funny. But you didn't say anything today about it and I remembered just as I switched to another video....lol. I had to come back to hit the like button, and leave this long comment. Thanks for all the great videos.
Super cool setup Cody. I’m wondering how your braking is affected should you be in a situation when you had to stop quick dealing with hotspots/downed trees?
Nice setup, now all you need is a second trailer setup as a pumper with a full locker of flat hose and a pump with suction line to pull from one of your irrigation canals. Maybe even have a two trailer set up, drop and start the pumper then payout line and hookup once your on location. Or visa versa if you have a crew of two, drop the tank and start responding while second person drops line and starts pump for resupply. With the added benefit of getting a flammable vehicle away from the fire.
Very good idea for fire fighting, for off the road use, I would probably look into a different hitch set up, one that would turn and twist going over rough terrain. You will find that towing would be a lot easier.
I had the Honda pioneer 1000 it has a lot more power than the 700 and has a 6 speed instead of the 3 speed I would definitely recommend it for the next purchase
Have you thought about adding some tool boxes or tool mounts to have a way to get rake and shovel on the passenger side and maybe a chainsaw holder to go at the front of the tank? That way it is all loaded up and ready to go.
Great Video! Personally I'd have moved it forward a bit more. Could find yourself light on the drives without the extra gear in the box. But to each their own!!!
For a farm or work truck where you return to the NJ homestead each evening they make sense. For the RV where you will be adventuring a distance each day, diesel is the way to go.
Good setup! As an aside I was wondering if you or your subs have used a Log Ox. My buddy just bought one and I gotta say it looks dumb. Just a modded Peevee.
I love the idea, but making the weight that balanced, it "may" be difficult to tow at speed behind a truck. Just something to keep in mind, and would be worth testing!
I agree. Right before he measured everything to find the middle looked about perfect. You WANT a little weight on the touge for safe towing and traction off-road.
Look into AmerSeal Tire Sealant for your off road tires. You will never have a flat again. I love the stuff. It don't rot the rims and cleans up easy if you have to change tires. I use it in all my stuff.

Hi Cody, It might be a good idea to place some rubber matting between the tank and the trailer to stop the vibration from the pump.
Bingo! Can get all types of rubber isolation mounts!!
Also to keep from wearing through the tank if you get any sand or fine materials between it and the trailer
I would recommend hockey pucks or heavy rubber belt material. Any metal on metal friction is going to cause problems later. Great setup overall.

Now for an overhead rack and work lights. Awesome setup sir.
400+700+400 = 1500 but who’s counting with all that power! Lol
Personally would have slid the tank a bit further forward. Just to give you some tongue weight hence traction on the rear wheels of the side by side.
Nice set up Cody, I was thinking the trailer may need a pintle hitch.

Really disappointed it didn't have dual alternators... hahah pretty slick trailer though!

Very cool a lot of potential. No mention of price for the entire package. Thanks for the review.
