Yes, it provides a long display and as you've probably noted.... responds well to shearing, so it is easy to keep short and bushy with a tight, compact habit too
If i lived near your nursery I think I'd live there every day - I'd want all the plants!!! You have all the plants and I love the commentary on each individual plant that you give with each of these videos - thanks for taking the time - I'm sure we all appreciate it!!
Thank you, we know that feeling! Even as "well seasoned" professionals, we get excited about good performing plants and that's why it is so much fun, passing on the information and helping people discover their beauty and allure.
That's good to hear. We grow several selections and will be featuring more in upcoming videos so stay tuned. Meanwhile, do you have any favorites that other viewers should be considering? Also, let us know if you trim yours to keep them short and bushy or do you just let them grow naturally?
@@OverdevestNurseries Rose Creek & Miss Lemon are 2 of my favorites. Ever other winter I give them a good haircut to keep a nice shape. Other than that, they require sunshine & a little water when it’s really hot but they’re lovely and blooming almost all year here in NCarolina zone 7b.
It is well established in the trade and should be available in other parts of the country. But stay tuned because we will be featuring some other outstanding selections that we think you will be interested to know about too.
Thanks, we think you are going to enjoy having it. if you are in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, here's a link that will help you find the locations of all the partnering garden centers that stock our plants: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ Also, stay tuned because we will be posting more videos on Abelias and their culture and since you are subscribed, you will be circulated automatically each time, we post them. Also, it would be really great if you can kindly click the "like" button too on any of our videos that you think worthy, because that helps other people find the information too.
Super informative video, as always! Thank you, David. I have a question:I know of other abelias whose flowers have an amazing sweet honey scent so I'm wondering: do the flowers on this one have a scent?
Thank you. It is great to hear you found it interesting and helpful. To answer your question, it has the same level of fragrance as other Abelia cultivars. Personally (for some reason) I only seem to detect a slight scent, so that was why I was hesitant to mention it in this video. I didn't want to mislead anyone, but I know several people (including obviously yourself) are lucky enough to be able enjoy the fragrance which of course is wonderful. Thanks again for your kind comment and support
@@OverdevestNurseries perhaps my schnoz is more sensitive than some! I'm familiar with the Autumn flowering Abelia Chinensis which has an amazing scent. These compact ones look really good for year-round colour.
We know that feeling! We are always wishing we could grow other things that are not reliably hardy enough in our zone too. One thought for you to consider.... is that if you have a cool, unheated room like a basement or garage with some light, you might consider growing it in a container. One that could be moved indoors before the really cold weather hits. It makes a lovely evergreen plant that can be trimmed and shaped. It won't grow much during the winter, but bringing it indoors into a cool environment will replicate the conditions of a few zones warmer.
Ah sadly the garage has zero light and I actually have a little greenhouse but it is TOO FULL! (How did that happen LOL). I can barely get inside. I am looking at A. Ruby Anniversary but it’s deciduous.
A shrubs that's bloom, pretty cool plant

Yes, and because it can be easily trimmed makes a neat little hedge or specimen in smaller areas too.
