I’d like to see swing state AZ Senator Astronaut Mark Kelly as the VP. He has the ultra cool smart military navy fighter astronaut factor (plus twin brother was an astronaut as well), and can advocate for VA, military funding, military families, NASA, climate change. Being a border state Senator he knows first hand about the immigration issues and could work with that, including coordination with military. Since his wife former Rep. Gabby Giffords was shot in the brain at a political event, he’s a great advocate for gun reform. Good luck to Trump running against an astronaut whose wife got shot worse than he did.

Kelly is the best pick. He has an impeccable record and is almost impossible to attack. Also, he is from a border state and can take the reigns on that issue. Finally, he will help bring over some moderates / independents who are critical to this election. Having a double progressive ticket won't win the election.
I’ve considered all the top contenders as possibilities, and while they all have their benefits tbh, I am leaning on Kelly as well. I wouldn’t be disappointed with any of the people on the list though. Heck, Cory Booker would make a great VP.
Kelly has only been in the senate for 2 years, has a poor union record and polling shows he doesn’t even move Arizona away from trump. Kamala is the moderate on the ticket. The democrats need a pro union from the Midwest or South to counter trumps fake attempt to be pro worker.
Kelly would have been my pick too if he wasn't in the senate and in arizona may loose that seat to a republican. best to pick outside the senate or congress.

The rust belt states will decide who win this election. Why do you think Trump would have a union boss speaking at the GOP convention who sounded like Bernie Sanders? Followed by Beshear and Pritzker. While Shapiro helps with Pen he hurts Michigan and Wisconsin. Kelly if you want to go centrist, which I don't think is the right move, and mediocre speaker. Cooper lacks charisma.

@@Don-md6wnA senator being a vice president means they have to give up their seat. We have a very split senate, and it is not a given that the next senator in that seat will be a democrat when a special election is called.
A governor, on the other hand, has a lieutenant governor that would serve the rest of the term. If a governor leaves office to pursue the vice presidency, there won’t be as much potential harm from that decision.

Andy Beshear would be perfect! He can be calm and polite when need be, he can be attack dog when need be, he is the most popular Democratic gov in the country, he has a record of fighting for reproductive rights, fighting against anti-LGBTQ+ bills in a deep red state of Kentucky. He will bring executive leadership experience to the ticket, he is young as well which will only underscore the convicted felon's age even further. Plus, he is the perfect counter to weirdo JD Vance.

As much as I love Walz, he could he attacked easily because he is quite liberal, and he looks rather old which people don't want at this point. Mark Kelly should not be picked. Period. A good man, but utterly flat-footed as a communicator. It's Buttigieg or Shapiro. If Harris puts anyone old-looking next to her, it neutralizes the generation gap between her and Trump. Shapiro's good, but he needs to stop being giddy. Buttigieg has had this down for four years. He can think on his feet consistently, has grace, humility, style and class. He has future presidential material written all over him, but knows how to play a supporting and supportive role. There's virtually no learning curve. A big "no" to Kelly.

But if it is not, then it should be someone more grounded who can give people an excuse to vote for Harris. I don't know all the numbers and ramifications regarding "battleground" states but I think Governor Walz is a much more effective, powerful speaker than Sen. Kelly and that is all important in this day of memes and 15 second attention spans.
