Jacques Leider writes that many muslims in Rakhine simply prefer to call themselves "mislim Arakanese" or "muslims coming Rakhine" instead of "rohingya". Historians such as Christina Fink, Jacques Leider, Chris Lewa and Andrew Selth said rohingya not as an ethnic identifier but as a political one. In a 1955 study published by Stanford University, the authors Virginia Thompson and Richard Aduloff write, "The post war illegal immigration of Chittagonians into that area was on vast scale, and in the Maungdaw and Buthidaung areads they replaced the Arakanese." The authors further argue that the term rohingya, in the form of Rwangya, first appeared to distinguish settled population from newcomers: "The newcomers were called Mujahids (crusaders), in contrast to the Rwangya or settled Chittaonian population." In 638 AD, Rakhine king Dhammawizaya made Convention of Buddhist Council, joint effort of two countries, Rakhine and Ceylon. Lemro dynasty in 818 AD, the great king of dynasty (AD 818-1430) was king Mim-Yim-Phru, who turned his attention toward the development of Buddhism, and in 847 AD he convened the second Buddhist Council in Rakhine attended by 800 Arahants. rohingya scholors have claimed that Rakhine was previously a muslim state for a millennium, or that muslims were king-makers of Rakhine kings for 35 years. They often traced the origin of rohingya to Arab seafarers. They claims have been rejected as "newly invented myths" in academic circles. Arakan was ruled by the Chandra dynasty. The British historian Daniel George Edward Hall stated that “The Burmese do not seem to have settled in Arakan until possibly as late as the tenth century AD. Hence earlier dynasties are thought to have been Indian, ruling over a population similar to that of Bengal. All the capitals known to history have been in the north near modern Akyab (now known as Sittwe)”. It is also unclear that the Rakhine people were one of the tribes of the Burmese Pyu city states because Pyus are not related with Burmese ethnic.

They began migrating to Arakan through the Arakan Mountains in the 9th century.

The Rakhines settled in the vallys of the Lemro River. Their cities included Sambawak I, Pyinsa, Parein, Hkrit, Sambawak II, Mrohaung, Toungoo and Launggret. The cities flourished between the 11th and 15 centuries. The Burmese invaded Arakan in 1404.
It is unknown who the ancestors of the Rakhines were. But there are some historians who believe that the Rakhines migrated from Magadha, old Bihar India. It was known as Maugh people to the Rakhines by the Indians of earliest days in Arakan or today's Rohingya people who converted into Islam in 8th century by the Arab and Persian traders. Rakhines are known to history by different names such as Magh, Mog, Mug, Magahi, Mogen etc.

Arrival of Islam in Arakan.
Since in the 8th century, Arab merchants began conducting missionary activities, and many locals converted to Islam. Some researchers have speculated that Muslims used trade routes in the region to travel to India and China. A southern branch of the Silk Road connected India, Burma and China since the neolithic period. Many Arab merchants married local women and settled in Arakan. As a result of intermarriage and conversion, the Muslim population in Arakan grew.

A book written in 1799 had mentioned Indentification of Rohingya ethnicity as Rooinga and aslo referred to Mohammedans (i.e. Muslims). So, why do Burmese government still deny all these proofs? Why is Burmese government killing and driving out the people from their ancestral homeland where their ancestors found it and ruled it since 4th century and also before the Rakhines?

The prince Abihiyaza (Abhiraja) of kingdom of Kosala of the Sakya clan (the clan of the Buddha and Maha Sammata) and his followers left their homeland following a military defeat against their neighbouring kingdom of Panchala. They settled and founded a kingdom at Tagaung in present day northern Burma at the upper banks of Irrawaddy river in 850 BCE. He had 2 sons, and died after a 25 years reign at Tagaung. The elder son Kanyaza Gyi lost the throne to his younger brother Kanyaza Nge. Kanyaz Gyi ventured south, and founded his own kingdom at Arakan in 825 BCE. Kanyaza Nge succeeded his father, and was follow a dynasty of 31kings. Circa 600 BCE, Taruk marauders from Gandhara sacked the city. (The invaders were from Yunnan. Taruk refers to the Han Chinese in modern Burmese but in old Burmese, it referred to anyone from the northeast. Gandara was the classical name of Yunnan adopted by the Buddhist kingdoms there.) The 33rd king of Abhiyaza line, king Binnaka Yaza was killed.

After Vesali, Pyinsa was found by Lemro dynasty in 818 AD; the great king of dynasty (AD818-1430) was king Mim Yin Phru, who turned his attention towards the development of Buddhism, and in 847 AD he convened the second Buddhist council in Rakhine attended by 800 Arahants. Tripitaka and Atthakatha were inscribed on the golden plate and enshrined. The copious findings of inscription Ye Dhamma verse were practical evidence that Theravada was dominant faith if epigraphic and archeological sources were to be believed.
