SDF: Sumi Discussion Forum (SDF) said that the passing of Dr. Husukha Yepthomi, chief of Yemishe village, is undoubtedly a great loss for the people of the state and the Nagas in general.
SDF acknowledged Husukha’s immense contribution towards social, political and various cause, devoting half of his life to social causes.
Describing him as one of the tallest Sumi leaders and an outspoken personality, SDF said he was well-versed in the wisdom of Sumi and Naga political struggle. His death has left a vacuum among the Sumi and Naga communities, which would be difficult to fill, it said, adding that his legacy of leadership and dedication to the society would be remembered.
The forum conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the departed soul rest in everlasting peace.
The forum also gave a brief profile of late Kusukha. Born on December 12, 1940, the forum said Husukha, from a young age, was actively involved in the students’ union, and served as vice president of All Sumi Students Union (SKK) in 1964.
He joined the Naga national movement as captain of the Naga Army from 1965 to 1969 and was a staff officer to General Sukhai, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Naga Army and defence minister, Federal Government of Nagaland.
Post 1969, SDF said he actively engaged in various civil society organizations and served in various capacities. He was also chairman and executive member of the Sumi Baptist Association (SBAK) from 1974-75, and a member of the Bible Society of India.
He also served Sumi Hoho as vice president, as well as convenor of peace and reconciliation (1994-96), and president of Sumi Hoho (1997-2001).
He was active in state politics and served as NPF working president and advisor to Chief Minister.
SDF said that he received the distinguished leadership award in 1998 for his “Outstanding Contribution to Contemporary Society” from the American Biographical Institute, North Carolina.
