Have not seen much of his reviews so can't say its his worst review but i have to say it's one of the worst reviews of manjummel boys in any language. 1. Dude found the cops beating to be cliche ... Bruh it f ing happened for real and was even worse (as per the OG Manjummel boys) 2. Dude wants to cut down the head count lol (bruh it's a real incident and these many people actually were there 😢) 3. The OG boys returned to their native and kept quiet for months before it was found by the locals which then became a big news as no one ever survived the guna caves fall. Its not for cinematic value its actually what happened Please take what you're doing more seriously and research more
I think police beating them was not fully real as I understood from one of their (real Manjummel Boys) interview. One of them got slapped but not like as in the movie. And there are other things, they did not show in the movie like the police snatched their money. Nevertheless the scene shown in the movie, even though it was predictable got us engaged and I think that is what matters.
1. Okay it happened for real. So call it a documentary then? If they are showing everything as it is without caring about entertainment. Can’t right? They would have added or deleted scenes according to the story and entertainment. So it is absolutely right for him to feel it is cliche. 2. Yes again, it is a real life incident. I appreciate the director valuing the real friendship and casted 11 people. But honestly for a film, it was too much to digest. Could have cut to half and developed each characters well rather than 11 characters simply being there. 3. Haha, again bro! WE GO TO THEATRE FOR THE CINEMATIC VALUE. I pay my money to get cinematic experience, visuals and dramatic story. If you are showing it as a real story, show it as it is and call it a documentary. I wouldn’t watch it in the theatres.
I think you were asked to specifically point out negatives as everyone are celebrating this movie...but you should do that after proper research...police station ,number of boys , end scene... everything happened in real which they wanted to bring it on screen, without made up fights or love scenes like other real story inspired cinemas...
After going through the comment section, i felt that the viewers are more informed than the host of the show himself 🧐. Personally, am following this movie from 24 th Feb onwards, covering reviews one after the another both in Tamil and Malayalam. On 2 nd , watched the movie in Thrissur. I missed that overwhelming Tamil theatre response 😢. These characters are real. The so called ' drama ' you attributed to the movie is because "Truth is stranger than fiction".
Its based on a true story sir, the police scenes were reduced as the real manjummel boys had said that the movie only showed 10 to 20% of what the cops had actually done to them. How can you even think about cutting down the number of characters when it is a story about team work and friendship? Every single person in that friends group and the local tamil residents worked tirelessly in rescuing subash. It will defeat the purpose of the film if the characters were reduced. The cutaways to the larger rock formation and hills helped the story telling a lot. Showing the claustrophobia wasn't the main intention of the film. As the director Mahesh Narayanan said for his film Malayankunju, showing the constant claustrophobia distanced the audience from his film. Whereas Manjummel boys handled it perfectly by showing both equally, Subash's suffering and what the boys were going through inorder to save him. The end where the old lady comes and says to subash that you are like a god as he survived the cave where no one had survived before happened in real life and it was not added as gallery pleasing melodrama like you think. Sir you should have at least read or watched some videos about the incident before doing this review.
Sir, you'd be shocked to know that whatever you wrote off as 'Gallery pleasing melodrama' literally happened! Be it Subash becoming God, the town folks in their native knowing about the incident much later, the police reference, everything happened. Intfact in the movie they've mellowed down a bit so that the audience don't feel extremely claustrophobic. I really wish you watch the documentary once it releases.
Did expect you to say something negative about this movie.. was wondering what would you highlight 😄All your criticisms could have been valid if it was not a true story. As per the real boys, the police scene was worse in real life situation, than what it was shown in the movie. You just cannot accept that a Malayalam movie has had such a heartwarming reception in Tamilnadu.
The flash back river incident is also a real incident happened to real Manjummel boys. How could the director cut that down not showing the bonding of friends? And the director portrayed the real story with 11 real friends .. and do you want to portray that as a 5 friends movie with a girls item dance played to seduce police men?? Here the bromance is not the hightlighted emotion. Its about humanity
Sir, Sentimentalising the rescued man as a god is NOT gallery pleasing melodrama, this was happened in real. Also the chat about god is NOT a setup with very person who is going to be reminded of god, its bcos he was an atheist (others not). This movie is a sincere portrayal of true story by writer/director, rather than making it cinematic for entertainment/fun loving audience, or cut down the unbelievable real incidents to please the so called “Critics”.
@ BADDIE ABOUT THE GOD SCENE , SUBASH IS A PERSON WHO DOESNT BELIEVE OR LACK IN BELIEF IN GOD SO HE STAYED BACK MENAWHILE OTHER EXPLORED THE PAZHANI LOCALITY ..ALSO DRIVER IS TIRED OF DRIVING AND HE STAYED BACK AS WELL ,, SO THEY GOT ALONG AND THIS PARTICULAR CONVERSATION TOOK BETWEEN THEM THERE IS " NO GALLERY MELODRAMA " 😅
Interesting facts among the cast and crew of Manjummel boys for those who are unaware of it. 1. Chidambaram and Ganapathi(Krishnakumar) are real life brothers 2. Khalid Rahman who played the driver is the director of Thallumala. His bro Shyju Khalid is the DOP of the movie 3. Jean Paul lal and Balu varghese who played brothers in the movie are cousin brother in real life. Jean is also the director of Driving License 4. Deepak Parambol(Sudhi) is a relative of Chidambaram and Ganapathi 5. Babu Shahir, who is one of the producers of the movie, is Soubin's dad 6. Chandu(Abhilash) is the son of renowned Malayalam comedian Salim Kumar
Do you know that when the original Manjummal boys returned to their hometown, they also met with an accident? However, these events were not included in the movie. In fact, only a fraction of the incidents faced by the original boys were portrayed. If all these events were included, the movie might have been perceived as overly dramatic.

I felt the movie was overhyped when I watched it in the theatre.. I’m glad it’s doing very well.. but I personally felt, it could’ve been better, I’m aware it’s based on true story, I’m not sure if it was the choice of actors or what, I thought it lacked soul. The film “Malooty” a survival story made decades ago came to mind and I remember it to this day, because of how well it was shot, I’m talking about the scenes where she was stuck in the well, it made me feel claustrophobic just seeing shamili stuck in there.. The only scene I liked from manjummel boys was when subhash suddenly slips and falls into the cave and the look on his friends faces and the utter shock at what just happened.. I felt it in my gut.
5:20 I personally think, that the supporting cast being one trait characters or not being registered properly is a huge positive, because it doubles down the fact that all of them were just 11 ordinary people who achieved the extraordinary feat.

This movie is a real story and we ( malayali audience) wont accept if characters reduced for the convenience of movie... when I watched the movie I loved how they kept it real with every scene....
This is a true story where 11 people went on to trip then how can in film it could be shown as 5 or 6 persons. Apart from that it's a Malayalam movie, where we try to show almost maximum possibility of reality.
Thank god at least audience appreciated and made this film, Premalu and Bramayugham succesfull. Audience needs to evolve and support next generation of writers and directors.
They just tried to play the real life characters..if they reduced the number of characters how could they stay true to a story that actually happened in the year 2006..sir, these actors were not loud in their portrayal as they had studied the actual mannerisms and nuances of the real life characters and even spent time with them at their homes to perfect the role..

I was expecting this mixed review from Baradwaj, and he delivered! Often noticed that he bring different strokes in his reviews, just to stay different (after all he need to stand out and make the review a blockbuster). But in this case it would have been nice if he had done a bit more research / study (or even watch some interviews) before giving out some lines which borderlines stupidity. For e.g., should have reduced the no. of friends who do the trip, the feet touching scenes towards the climax, or the extended closure after the rescue act. 10+1 was the original no. of friends who did the trip, and the other incidents were all what they experienced. Diluting that will make the movie totally pointless. As a seasoned movie journalist, I wish he had at least given some thoughts into the finer aspects of the movie, instead of dismissing those as melodrama. See you soon at the movies!
It's funny how sometimes real life can be more unbelievable than movies! Many of the things that Bharadwaj Sir found to be implausible or for dramatic effect turned out to be real events. Knowing that all the events that happened in the movie are real just enhanced my cinematic experience further!
Was looking for genuine analysis of movie, with faults no one has seen. But i wont blame you in case you didnt go through real manjummel boys interviews. All negatives you said, is actual incidents. They OG manjummal boys has clarfiied it.
Interesting viewpoint. Maybe it's the lack of experience on my side that didn't see those things as flaws. Not spending time to flesh out every character makes it more engaging as you need to pay more attention.
Have you lost it? How can the number be reduced when in reality there were 11 boys? Why does it bother you to see the police man beats the boys while in reality he was more brutal !!? The end has not been'dragged'..! In reality the saviour was celebrated..YOUNG MAN YOU NEED TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST. The review lacks sense and sensibility
Vaathiyare, The apathy and the threatening nature of the cops was required for us to rrot for the character harder. They were trespassing a restricted area and got in troubel, so some people may not instantly root for them. an external force is definitely required. The original Manjummel boys have mentioned somewhere that the cops were much worse irl and the movie has a much toned down version.
I'm gonna say something out loud. Love Baddy and all his conversations + perspectives/masterclass on cinema. I watch this channel for his videos. But lately I smell KJo all over. Maybe that's where the funds for the channel growth and international festivals come from? I'm not sure. I just wish/hope that they are able to uphold the integrity of the channel independant of how the financing is done. We have enough channels doing pr service we don't need a national award winning film critic in that mix. BRs work ethics have been top notch and I want to believe in that.
The real guy who went into the pit was atheist, so no wrong in establishing a sense of miracle to this incident(No one has historically escaped from that hole, even the corpse), who knows how the universe or fate works :(

The actual incident had a lot of drama thats why the makers found a movie out of it but bardwaj wanted less drama to make it more 'REAL' what the f*** dude😂
The film depicts original incidents and characters. The incidents that happened to those friends on that day was dramatic and cinematic. If they have depicted the incidents as such you would have said it was over dramatic One such incident is the survivor being considered a god by the local villagers and rituals they performed after seeing the survivor. Another incident is the rain and the friends trying desperately to not let go water into the pit, these were real incident and looks dramatic for someone who watches and criticizes these scenes without even knowing what happened in real
The Review is under par... Opinions suggested are wrong.... (1) It's a real life story of 11 Friends. How can you say that number of friends could be reduced (2) The transformation to God is not the rescuer but the rescued. It's Subhash (Bhasi Character) who people touch the feet as a person who came from Death. That too is the real life incident where Tamil people then reacted after Subhash was rescued. (3) Many of the characters are flawed as they are real life people. So the Script Writer/Director should not change that
this time i don't completely agree with you. film has to have beyond formulae writing. you seeing from a very screenplay writing do's and don't. but films are about people it has to have that sense or imperfection and then it feels more real and intriguing. taking 11 characters was the choice i love it had to work collectively and not individually. you don't need to know each and every character it has to work collectively and it does justice to it.
I don’t know why many comments here accuse/troll the reviewer for observing the number of friends could’ve been reduced to 5-6. I felt the same. The movie to me failed to establish cases of deeper emotional connections among the gang and major reason was the size . The odds of such a large group standing firmly for a seemingly hopeless rescue risking their own lives were not very realistic I felt. The director’s first commitment is cinematic perfection and not replication of the real incident.
How can you make such changes when it's based on a real story. This story was almost 99% similar to the real incident. The real Manjummel boys exist even today. It's their story the director and writer decided to make so it should be accurate. They cannot make changes as they like.
I think you are jealous of malayalam cinema you are purposefully degrading the movie with stupid reasons or else you are a worst reviewer. How can they change situations and characters of a movie with real incident🤦♂️😂
What do you even mean by "there has to be that cop" as if the cops are just the fragment of the Director's imagination. IRL it was worse. Listen to the OG Manjummel boys talk about it first
Mr. Baradwaj, your research on the real incidents is clearly poor and so please ensure it is done when you review a massive hit like this. Almost every scene shown in the movie is true to life, and the director insisted to keep it that way. The movie was very much to the point and has not digressed with any unwanted masala, other industries would have done.
People saying he is God and rouse from dead and showing that scene is important as it happened in Tamil nadu. It seems like you haven't done much research for this movie. This is a real story and the team spend days with the real men who were 11 of them and got the facts about what happened during their plight. And in life truth in more valuable than cinematic experiences.
@@thewayiseeit01123then what's point of making this film with the same story...
@@thewayiseeit01123 There is no need in establishing there characters and dragging the film. Audience got the emotion the director tried to convey end of the day that matters the most.

Have not seen much of his reviews so can't say its his worst review but i have to say it's one of the worst reviews of manjummel boys in any language.
1. Dude found the cops beating to be cliche ... Bruh it f ing happened for real and was even worse (as per the OG Manjummel boys)
2. Dude wants to cut down the head count lol (bruh it's a real incident and these many people actually were there 😢)
3. The OG boys returned to their native and kept quiet for months before it was found by the locals which then became a big news as no one ever survived the guna caves fall. Its not for cinematic value its actually what happened
Please take what you're doing more seriously and research more
He only loves mani ratnam . Others movies are waste for him
True
I think police beating them was not fully real as I understood from one of their (real Manjummel Boys) interview. One of them got slapped but not like as in the movie. And there are other things, they did not show in the movie like the police snatched their money. Nevertheless the scene shown in the movie, even though it was predictable got us engaged and I think that is what matters.
Well said
Yeah i too think he is jelous of the love towards our industry
@@cineenthusiast1234don't think so, its his opinion ❤
I hope the next one on your cards is a "Light Camera Analysis" with Director Chidambaram
That should include Khalid Rahman and Ajay Chalissery.
Waiting!
This time BR didn't do homework. Too many good movies this month.
💯 perfectly said
Yep, I’m also pissed off of his ignorance and the confidence he shows his conveyance

😂😂
Its afictionalised adaptation of a real incident

1. Chidambaram and Ganapathi(Krishnakumar) are real life brothers
2. Khalid Rahman who played the driver is the director of Thallumala. His bro Shyju Khalid is the DOP of the movie
3. Jean Paul lal and Balu varghese who played brothers in the movie are cousin brother in real life. Jean is also the director of Driving License
4. Deepak Parambol(Sudhi) is a relative of Chidambaram and Ganapathi
5. Babu Shahir, who is one of the producers of the movie, is Soubin's dad
2:49 director clearly specified that its made for pure theatre experience so that they used cuts to reduce the impact of claustrophobia, since its made on a high budget they used cinemayic freedom to make this more enjoyable rather than an art film
4:12 what you are saying baradwaj, please reasearch more becore posting some random comments, the explanation of god: it was a dialogue used by one of the real manjummal boys, its a real incident

Animal review kandappozhe iyaalu mandanannu manasilayatha. Ippo confirm aayi 😅
You are a guy who likes and appreciates movie like Animal, what else can we expect from you. This movie doesn’t deserve reviews from reviewers like you
I felt the movie was overhyped when I watched it in the theatre..
Everything in the including the police station incident...was happened to the real manjumal boys... how can they can reduce the characters...when they portraying the real life incident...??ur point make no sense
You are overcomplicating everything. Seems like this guy got mental after going to the film festival
Pls bring Chidambaram for a Light Camera Action session
Before doing a review just do some research and then comment about the movie.
In 2028 movie, I remember BD saying something around the pregnant lady airlifting sequence being needless. Except for the incident actually happened.
Here police incident happened in real life. "gallery pleasing of Tamil cinema" actually happened in Kodaikanal (may be bcoz such gallery pleasing movies are such a big part of their lives )
I agree with BD's ctrique that except Soubin rest are one or zero note characters though
Mr.Bharadwaj 11 is a team number in a tug war .The entire movie is in itself a tug of war.😅
Hey mottai 90% of the movie is actually happened
Thank god at least audience appreciated and made this film, Premalu and Bramayugham succesfull. Audience needs to evolve and support next generation of writers and directors.
Mollywood's game changer❤️🔥
I don't quite agree with the review
They just tried to play the real life characters..if they reduced the number of characters how could they stay true to a story that actually happened in the year 2006..sir, these actors were not loud in their portrayal as they had studied the actual mannerisms and nuances of the real life characters and even spent time with them at their homes to perfect the role..
There is more criticism in here than appreciation 🤦♂️ or is it just me?
I loved this movie and all the criticism pointed out here with flowery English didn’t resonate with me. Like a thali all good things were peppered in the right (not for Maddy though) quantity that the movie deserved. Hence packed houses everywhere 👍 Loved it
The story is actually 97% true..in an interview the actual guys said that the police were much worse than shown in the movie..they took all their money that they cudnt come home even...but they didnt put that much in the movie...sixa character actuallly in real life is a little Excited...it shows in the interview...the actor didnt overact
most things you didnt like including the scene in the police station, are all real life incidents, so difficult to avoid those scene when you make a movie from real life incident
Lost respect when he said '' the no of people could have reduced '', What sort of a critic will compare MB with Sudani movie
It's based on real life story...Then how can you say the crowd doesn't work for you....Why should the interpersonal elements needs to be highlighted....Really not to the point 😏
I do not agree with your statement about inclusion of that ‘God scene’ at the end.
They OG manjummal boys has clarfiied it.
this guy should watch dulquer’s CHUP, before he gives reviews like this
We need a real life chup 😂
damn this guy needs to do some research first
Sir the fact that this is a real story and the mentioning of God and the number of characters can't be changed because that is what really happened
Interesting viewpoint. Maybe it's the lack of experience on my side that didn't see those things as flaws. Not spending time to flesh out every character makes it more engaging as you need to pay more attention.
Dude you don't need to justify, your review was spot on, Mr Rangan is over scrutinizing this and blabbering stuffs and failed to do proper research
This movie is not about friends but true friendship which is truly DIVINE
This review is subpar. Director faithfully followed all the real life incidents, including what happened at the police station
You need to do more research before your review..

Goosebumps at the end when BR mentions Malayalam movie fraternity
What are movies without a little bit of drama and high stakes thrown in!
The real guy who went into the pit was atheist, so no wrong in establishing a sense of miracle to this incident(No one has historically escaped from that hole, even the corpse), who knows how the universe or fate works :(
Hyper melodramatic movie thats why it works in tamil otherwise Tamil audiance doesn't have the patience or intelligence to watch Malayalam movies in theatres.
You almost narrated the story sir it kills the experience u didn’t give spoiler disclaimer like you always give

This is impossible - never happened - I have watched a movie - a good week before BR review 😂
The actual incident had a lot of drama thats why the makers found a movie out of it but bardwaj wanted less drama to make it more 'REAL' what the f*** dude😂
The film depicts original incidents and characters. The incidents that happened to those friends on that day was dramatic and cinematic. If they have depicted the incidents as such you would have said it was over dramatic
One such incident is the survivor being considered a god by the local villagers and rituals they performed after seeing the survivor.
How can you say that number of friends could be reduced
(2) The transformation to God is not the rescuer but the rescued. It's Subhash (Bhasi Character) who people touch the feet as a person who came from Death. That too is the real life incident where Tamil people then reacted after Subhash was rescued.
(3) Many of the characters are flawed as they are real life people. So the Script Writer/Director should not change that
You are the only non malayali who pronounced correctly Manjumal Boys.❤
Don't know why I get a feeling that the reviewer is jealous of the film or director 😂

this time i don't completely agree with you. film has to have beyond formulae writing. you seeing from a very screenplay writing do's and don't. but films are about people it has to have that sense or imperfection and then it feels more real and intriguing. taking 11 characters was the choice i love it had to work collectively and not individually. you don't need to know each and every character it has to work collectively and it does justice to it.

Not agreeing with BR Review
Movie is a masterpiece
Yow thaliva always you suggest us to watch but now we have suggested you to watch and review 😅
Keep the story real is the best part, good that Bollywood directors dint get this story they would have made it the worst 😂
I think you are jealous of malayalam cinema you are purposefully degrading the movie with stupid reasons or else you are a worst reviewer. How can they change situations and characters of a movie with real incident🤦♂️😂
Slow-Gun Rangan #jk
What do you even mean by "there has to be that cop" as if the cops are just the fragment of the Director's imagination. IRL it was worse. Listen to the OG Manjummel boys talk about it first
Mr. Baradwaj, your research on the real incidents is clearly poor and so please ensure it is done when you review a massive hit like this. Almost every scene shown in the movie is true to life, and the director insisted to keep it that way. The movie was very much to the point and has not digressed with any unwanted masala, other industries would have done.

3 big directors acted in this film. Lal Jr, Soubin Shahir and Khalid Rehman
Very disappointed with the review…….
People saying he is God and rouse from dead and showing that scene is important as it happened in Tamil nadu. It seems like you haven't done much research for this movie. This is a real story and the team spend days with the real men who were 11 of them and got the facts about what happened during their plight. The last few sentences you said about Malayalam industry is right though.
