    Thank you so much for explaining things in easy terms. All the other videos I’ve seen are so ridiculous showing advanced techniques without any explanation at all! You’re a saint! Thanks again so very much!

    Thankyou for your message, glad the tutorials are helpful! Pearl purl comes in different lengths and you can stitch down whatever the longest length you have is. Just make sure the whole length is stretched evenly...

    Thanks for your comments Joann, hope the tutorials are helpful. A good strong sewing thread such as a Gutermann sew all thread works well. Make sure you run it through the beeswax first though.

    Yes the purl does look like beads! And once cut up, you apply in the same way. I hope you have fun trying the technique...

    Good morning - beautiful videos - may I ask, as a beginner, how are you backing the fabric and getting it so flat into the embroidery hoop? Thank you

    Execellent video! I have always been interested in embroidery especially gold work. I have bought a few books on gold embroidery and was dissapointed, in that they assume you know somthing about gold embroider already. I want to embroider a coat of arms on a regimental flag (3'x 5'). but am not sure how what to use , purl, plate etc. and where to get it. I would love to see how to laydown plate and also couching and what is the longest length a length of purl that can be stiched

    Hi, I like ur embroidery work. U teach very well. I want to know how to store this golden wire to save its color and shine . Actually I buy this and after a month my gold wire color turned black. No more gold and shine😞 I just wear my dress only 1 time. Please tell me how to save it?

      Keep the gold threads and metals in acid free bags (we have some in our online shop here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_5257815-Acid-free-bags-pack-of-10.html). When working the gold, wash your hands regularly and don't put on hand cream, make-up etc. Keep the finished embroidery/dress away from light, heat and damp. You can't stop the tarnishing process, only slow it down and you can't clean the gold once it's been stitched but tarnishing is part of the technique of goldwork so don't worry and wear your dress with pride!

    what kind of fabric does it best to work with for embroidery/ gold work? and what kind of thread did you use? and what is the name of the fabric you use for the padding? is there any other way I can contact you to ask further more about embroidery/ gold work? I'm really interested in it, but I don't have the fund to get a proper education about it :) btw great video tutorial! really explain a lot! :D

      Use a natural fabric Ayu; Cotton is good to practice on as it is strong and inexpensive (I've used cotton in the video) but you might want to use something more luxurious for a finished piece such as silk, linen or velvet (cotton velvet is easier to use the silk velvet). The stitching is quite dense so back the piece with calico or cotton and stitch through both layers for extra stability.
      I used a strong sew all thread to sew down the gold with, and the padding for this piece is felt (check out the goldwork padding video here: ruclips.net/video/K22r8_ds8jM/видео.html).
      Check out the other goldwork videos to learn about the individual gold metals and threads, and look out for some more goldwork videos to come! You can get in touch with me through the contact page of my website: www.sarahhomfray.com/contactme.html

    Is the pearl purl real gold or a plate?

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  8 лет назад

      It comes in several forms, I use a gilt version (with a very small percentage of gold) or you can buy it with 2% gold in it. The former is good for practising with!

    I am new to embroidery, is there something else one can use to wax the thread besides bee's wax? As a vegan I try to avoid using animal products.

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  8 лет назад

      There are 2 products named 'Thread Magic' & 'Thread Heaven' that claim to do the same job as beeswax but I prefer using the natural beeswax - it just seems to work better for me. And it costs less! I do not know if there are any animal products (or synthetic chemicals etc) in those two products. Sorry I can't help beyond that.

    • @gypsy27
      @gypsy27 8 лет назад +1

      Sarah Homfray Thank you for answering! I will look into those products.

      Just as an FYI, I do not believe Beeswax would be considered an "animal product" as it is not made FROM Bees, but rather BY Bees, at least in the "vegan" sense of the term. Generally, no Bees are harmed when collecting it.

      @@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery bees wax is used to stop thread knotting ~ where as Thread Magic and Thread Heaven or both conditioners and are used to actually stop your thread themselves from fraying!!

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  3 года назад

      Bees wax stops the thread fraying (and knotting) by physically sticking the fibres together so they all do the same job really
