My wife and I just celebrated 35 years of marriage. We raised 2 boys who are now young men with their own families. The teenage years were the hardest. I always dreamed of my boys coming to work with me in my Metal shop but it was not to be. They had their own interests. Both are doing excellent in their jobs . One is a heavy Equipment Mechanic and the other is a Drill rig operator. Both are making more money than me now! Haha They are honest, hard working, respectful, intelligent people. I guess we did OK. They are now helping us build our dream home in the mountains after renting for 45 years. Life has been tough at times but there was always deep love for each other even if there wasn't much money. We sacrificed home ownership by renting houses (always expensive) so they could grow up in decent neighborhoods with decent schools. I guess it paid off.

You can learn as much as your willing to absorb from others. I work with troubled youth and pitch this idea to new employees because the burnout rate is insanely high 🙁

I didn't have parents growing up ... they both died in a trucking accident when I was 11. Family raised us. So didn't really have parent role models and made many mistakes raising my kids but can't go back ... there's only the present.
It’s a learning curve. I genuinely believe that most of us try to do our very best. It must of been hard to lose your folks at 11. I can still remember being that age. 😢
There are some rare men who are not really men in spirit that have so much love to give in a different way. The sad part is that gender is being weaponized to the point that people are arguing over physical organs and gender roles, rather than focusing on character of an individual.

16:40 - Don't feel bad about the kids turning away from the family, it's a necessary aspect of one's development into adulthood. They have to turn away to find themselves, and once they find themselves they'll return as a prodigal son with talents and virtues all their own. Creating a space where they can explore that safely is your accomplishment as a parent.

I'm 60 years old, the crash in 2008 made for a great movie, but I didn't see any of it other than on the national news. The best time to buy a home is "now", and by now I mean when you find one and you can swing the payment. The common, "I'm going to wait a little longer" will never come as you hope that it will.
My wife and I just entered the 30s. Married a couple years, no kids, well established in our careers, vacationed/traveled like any other ‘middle class’ millennial. All this is great and all but it kinda makes you ponder the purpose of life.
Although inflation sucks, we have all the luxuries that kings and queens could ever desire. Foods and Spices from literally all over the world. Experiences that monarchs from the Middle Ages could ever dream of. Then what? It’s all kinda pointless cause we’re gonna die anyway and all those experiences will be for nought. Self gratification only goes so far before we’re back on the hedonic treadmill.
Idk but maybe one of the ways to break away from that cycle is to have kids lol. Your legacy moves forward and your experiences can overcome the tomb.
