I prefer Leatherman over Gerber as with the Squirt PS4, it's sad Leatherman discontinued the Squirt. Why did Leatherman discontinue a great mini tool. R.I.P. Leatherman Squirt PS4.
I have both, and to me the Leatherman is a much higher quality tool. He is right that the Gerber file is worthless, and the scissors might look the same, but the Leatherman's work much better. The leatherman has better finish and smoother operation, and has more of a high quality feel to it. I do like the bottle opener on the Gerber. The opener on the Squirt is fine, but its nice to not even have to open anything up to use the Gerber opener. I wonder how the guys in TSA like them, as they have taken mine away several times.
06:45 yes !!! scissors are perfect reflections of each other, which makes the Dime scissors "left handed" scissors (which might be why some right handed people find them awkward), leatherman are usual right handed style
You make some good observations here. The blade steel is 420 on the Leatherman and 5Cr15 on the Gerber. Both were junk when these were released. They are hot garbage today. That said, there really hasn't been any innovation or competition in this size category over the last decade. I'd love to see new versions with general improvements and either 9Cr18Mov or 14C28N on the blade. Heck, I'd be interested in a titanium-bodied premium version. This is a radically useful size category.
leatherman discontinued the entire squirt and juice product line. no matter, nextool and roxon stepped in with products which handily spank the discontinued squirt and the gerber dime. i got a nextool flagship mini pro to replace my squirt ps4 and it is superior in every way.
Leatherman makes multi-tools. Gerber will make anything with a blade that they can markup and make money. That alone should tell anyone Leatherman is the better bet.
I’ve had both tools for years. Both are what they are, not heavy duty full size tools. The Dime lives in my pocket, the Squirt at home in a drawer with other tools I don’t use.
super video, yes they are so close. Now Im sure the gerber is the right tool for me (might not be for you), I like to belt carry and I loose them all the time, but a small carbine and belt holster is right for me that = gerber dime for me.
@inkiron3907 - the knife 🔪 blade on the Leatherman squirt ps4 is 420 hc. That's the steel they mainly use. On the Gerber dime I'm not sure. Gerber mystery steel. 😅😅😅
This is literally the video I've been looking for! Love my Dime, but have been considering the squirt for awhile. All things being equal, I'll take a convenient tweezers EDC over a file any day. That's just me personally though, since I use tweezers WAY more than a file. Has anyone maybe just ground down/removed the keychain loop from the Dime? I hate to delete a function, but I honestly don't see using it at any point.
@@inkiron3907 Mine is beat to hell anyways. I'm on my 3rd after losing one and gifting the second. Having the bottle opener and tweezers on the outside has made it my easy go-to for cookouts and hikes for a few years now.
I took mine off with a Dremel. I just use the cross bar on the bottle opener to attach it to my keys via a tiny s-carabiner clip and just unclip it from my keys when in use.
I have the Dime and IMO scissors on a tool that size are worthless when you have a blade. I think they should ditch the scissors and move one of the drivers to that side so they could increase the length of both, maybe even add a real Phillips.
I have the Dime but would prefer the Squirt basically because I like a full size decent file. But the price of the Squirt has always been high for a keychain tool and now they are discontinued. In use are the Gerber Clutch (also discontinued) and the Gerber Dime as key chain/coin pocket tools.
Absolutely love my ps4 squirt. The scissors are my finger nail clippers 😅. I somehow managed to snap one of the pliers and was mortified.. still needing to replace mine.. Edit: I mailed my squirt in and got a replacement for free. Glad to have it back 😁
Looks like a lot of us somehow managed to snap the pliers on these things. Exactly why I am here, to see if the dime is a worthy replacement since Leatherman discontinued the Squirt (and I refuse to pay $50 for a used on on ebay).
I have Leatherman Squirt PS4 it's ok litle tool but for 55€ I'm killing him with tasks ( cos am I'm renovation of house and I have litle Squirt and Skeletool CX and Im yust tering troo them) all Leatherman tools are over priced so I really don't care if something hapens I will send it to the Leatherman and replace it with newe. I'm waiting my Victorinox Spirit MX clip they are on another level from all other tools . That is my apenjon.
Had a few squirts for keychain use, specifically the PS4, and I do not trust them.. The reason was that there was a day I was attempting to use the pliers on a good old-fashioned wire hanger, and the pliers broke! One of the jaws just snapped off. After that, I switched to the dime, and there were no issues..
The discontinuation of the squirt is why I honestly still give the edge to the gerber dime. Materials aside, the fact the dime is still made and serviced means I am getting far more value than the leatherman. It was foolish of leaherman to discontinue the thing
I can’t help thinking that the Gerber dime is junk, as you say the file I absolutely useless and I don’t see the point of having a ‘package opener’ is that not what a pocket knife is for in the first place, which both of these tools have anyway
In my experience working in food service, parents don’t want you using a knife around their kids. Pull out the little package opener and nobody cares. Useful when your changing soda bibs while kids are filling their cups, etc. I doubt most tool users care, but it came in handy for me
the dime is good for light pliers (I filed the nose of mine to be flatter), the tweezers, and surprisingly the package opener. The package opener is actually really, really good, and easy to whip out confidently and open boxes and know you won't ever damage anything. It also rips through blister packaging and feels much safer than a knife while doing so. For that reason alone I use my dime a TON as a package opener, as pliers when doing heavy repair stitching and for little tight spaces, and the tweezers to groom myself and pull out splinters. The knife/file/scissors on mine see almost exactly zero use, but I guess the scissors are better than nothing for some small cases. I own a leatherman Micra and while the scissors are much nicer I prefer the dime because I simply like pliers more, I like the tweezers a LOT more, and that's enough to shift it to the one I simply like more, even though I HATE gerber's stuff because it's almost all trash.
The details are not comparable. Squirt is way better built than Gerber dime. I owned them both so I know. Squirt it's twice murre expensive and it's twice better built.
PowerPrint just sucks. It is not good enough for realyl hard work and it is too big to take on a key ring. It has most useless tools and no normal screwdrivers. And don't forget that Compound Leverage doesn't allow to open pliers really wide.
in my experience PS4 is alot better. Dime pliers cutter cant cut an 1.5 mm wire (it almost break) while Squirt cut 2mm with no problem. the only good tool on Dime is the bottle cap opener.
I've been using the Squirt PS4 for 13 years. Use it constantly and love it.

I had the dime. My biggest issue with it is how tight the tools are. It’s a pain to access stuff and I feel like I’m going to break my fingernail.
Mi scissors broke for that reason when I pulled up
I'm an older female and ordered this unfortunately. I literally cannot use the tools without getting something else to pry it out.
One thing I've noticed with the Gerber Dime is the bottle opener allows me to get four fingers on my grip when using the pliers.
great comparison video. i own both. unfortunately, leatherman discontinued the squirt last spring. not sure why....
We can only hope it’s because they plan to make an tool that fits the same niche with updated technology

With the Leatherman you also get their insane warranty. Personally I think that's pretty cool
As long as they don’t discontinue that model, sure I guess.
No warranty on an old squirt, they'll send you a cheap ass Micra as a replacement without even asking you.

Scissors useful for precise first aid situations in my case.
Shame they don't make the squirt anymore
I have both and the pliers are significantly different in that the Dime has a flat tooth in the front, very good for flattening materials.

Leatherman all day.
