I appreciate the fact that you saw the song/video as internal struggles. The boys were judged harshly for this video, but it wasn't meant to glorify abuse towards women as some thought; rather, it was a script, a physical interpretation of the emotional turmoil that a serious crush causes. They follow this up 5 years later with "Boy with Luv" (ft Halsey) to show that they have matured and realized what love is truly about.

As you had mentioned how you would like to see how they react in the future, Boy in Luv is looked back to in Boy with Luv. Their Song NO is later visited by their song ON. Their song No More Dreams at their later song ON, refers to how it changes to Dreams. Their song We are Bulletproof, turns into We Are Bulletproof Pt 2, and then Bulletproof : The Eternal.
So BTS and like their Army has evolved as they have grown older and many of their fans grew with them. That's why many of the songs written by them relate to Army and their relationship, which if you guys see them specify like they are in a relationship with some significant other, they are usually referencing to ARMY.

You guys should also watch the docu-series Rise of Bangtan alongside the music, since the series also goes in chronological order. It'll show you a lot of what was happening behind the scenes, a lot of info about Korean culture, shows how the kpop industry works and how BTS navigated it differently, etc.

The actual title in Korean of this song translates as 'Real Man'. Jin said in an interview that he apologised to the girl for manhandling her in the MV, and they did receive some criticism over it. In kdramas there is the trope of the wrist grab.. you see it time and again

  • @pslinky

5:22 as you said, it's like your only knowledge of romance when you're young is what you see in film, they modeled this after popular tropes in k dramas of the time. When Jin slams the girl into the locker, that's from k dramas. Jin felt so bad after that he profusely apologized to the girl lol. They received hate for this, but imo they're just trying to capture the inner turmoil young boys/people experience. 💜

I am glad that you got the general gist of the song and mv because a lot of people misunderstood it, especially regarding the rough scene with the girl. Firstly, I am a woman, and I don't condone such behaviors toward anybody, nor does BTS. I think one of the reasons people had and is still having the misunderstanding is the English title of the song, Boy In Luv, when the actual translation of the Korean title means Real or Manly Man. Actually, the Korean title and the song was made to MOCK such juvenile misconception of thoughts and behaviors of clueless anxious teenage boys who think that's what real or manly man should be like. BTS was making fun of those misconstrued teenage idea of a real man NOT condoning it. BTS knew that, that was how a lot of teenagers, especially boys in general used to think or behave because they were teenagers back then. As OG ARMY knows, from the beginning, BTS didn't hide behind the curtain. They were keeping it REAL. A lot of people back then and even now mistook as condoning from REALISM. This was the same with the song War Of Hormones which you will get into later hopefully. As far as I'm aware of, a lot of antis fueled by the Big 3 companies back then, misconstrued, exacerbated and criticized the songs leading to RM seeking reviews from counselors of woman's studies and BTS and Big Hit publicly apologizing for something that is honest and real. I think this song and War Of Hormones is a great honest portrayal of the naivety of teenagers and should be praised for being more realistic than criticized as otherwise. The more you get to know BTS better, coming from a small company, you'll realize how much they struggled and fought against the antis, the past Big 3, and the system to be where they are today. Although it's still an ongoing battle worldwide, despite their current fame and fortune, but BTS know they have ARMY with them and the family is growing. I appreciate your insights and wish you a great BTS journey! Look forward to more BTS!💜

    14:48 YASSS!!! 👏👏👏
You'd be surprised how many people don't get that part: That she's playing with them and they want her to make up her mind. Very perceptive. 👍
Boy IN Love is about a more selfish kind of puppy dog love and then later on they made the corresponding Boy WITH Love (feat. Halsey) about a more mature love where it's about your partner and being curious about them as a person so in that way the two songs are meant as a "pair". 💜

I see you guys debating a little bit about that one scene when the members suga and Jin were kinda being aggressive towards the girl.First and for most the dude on the bottoms reaction to that was totally valid tbh I was a little bit dumbfounded at why they were being so in her face and pushing her like that. However they were told to do this to match their “bad boy” concept that type of aggressive behavior was I guess very common in k-dramas,which is not okay tbh it’s kinda
Romanticizing abuse.Just to let y’all know after filming those scenes the members repeatedly told the girl that they were sorry for pushing her and shoving her. If you guys want you can check out the behind the scenes of their mv’s

    A bit of background-
At this point, Jin was going to university majoring in film and acting, that's why he played this role. He's such a gentleman, after the hallway scenes he apologized to the female actress and asked her if she was okay. Love you Jin 💜
And to your point about sexual harassment....
this was 10 yrs ago ..and in Korea.
All of these issues had been in the forefront for yrs by now in North America. But hundreds of cases go unreported every month in Korea. Women and girls are starting to find their voice, but it's still a struggle.
BTS, RM in particular, got called on this, and another song, "War of Hormones."
They were all teenagers (Jin 20) when he wrote these lyrics, but he soon found out in a lot of places around the world, this was not acceptable....and he apologized.
After this, he took his lyrics to a professor of Women's Studies to see if they were okay. ..youll hear about this in one of the Guides to BTS.
What American rapper has the integrity to do this when they write a song?
90% of rap music, with it's explicit, degrading, disrespectful and misogynistic lyrics would get a "No, sorry, not happening."
    Thank you for comments.
We don't mind if you pause (just not for too long 🙂) We've all seen these videos many times, it's your reaction we're interested in.

It's funny that you said that you want to see how they would sing something like this now. WELL BOYS, THEY DID JUST THAT WITH HALSEY! Hahahaha! They revisited this song but it's now called Boy With Luv. However, since you are doing this chronologically, you'll have to wait til you get to the year 2019 :) I suggest that you do the chronological order of songs with the The Rise Of Bangtan Documentary OR the behind the scenes shots of the music video so you better understand the context of how they did it or what they are trying to say. Also, they were so respectful of the girl that they apologize after takes lol! Thank you for reacting to this.

Fantastic accurate discussion of the school trilogy era. BTS’ titles are diverse and partly created for performance, so they won’t all be your faves, but if you continue to have fun with it and are respectful, people will enjoy your reactions. Eventually you could pick your favorite titles and start to explore side tracks from those albums, as those are often BTS’ best songs.

i really do love this song and video because it kinda feels like a representation of teenage, conflicting behaviour/emotions. the kinda aggressive approach to asking the girl out literally displays a lot of male behaviour towards women and bts did a really good job at depicting that through these lyrics and the intense imagery in the video, they're almost mocking or critiquing the dichotomous nature of teenage boys

They received a lot criticism for the scenes with the girl. There was a lot of k-dramas doing that so they were just going along with the trend but got heat for it, after that the guys like rm went to a university professor in women's studies to go over his lyrics to make sure that his song weren't abusive or damaging to women. Dont forget the song just one day, it was playing at the beginning of this mv

Thank you so much for understanding the video. During the time the video just came out many feminists in the US were saying that BTS were being mysogynist. They said that this video showed how they didn't truly like women. Much of it was people who didn't like BTS but they berated the idea of this video. I felt it was an adolescent's look at how you feel when your first with a woman. When I first saw this I felt that you are so right about how they are feeling in this song. Thank you for putting it in male perspective.
Actually your jokes made the song better.

Yes! Esa canción en que hablan del amor con una perspectiva mas madura existe es “Boy with love”! En la que colabora con ellos Helsey. Y en esa época, tb “Just one day”! 😉💜

Hang in there guys this is right around the time they received some backlash for this and War of Hormone especially, granted I think it was a big over reaction personally and a lot of haters were looking for an excuse to tear them down. It was a pivotal time for them and they really shifted gears with the album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt. 1" album. I'll admit it was hard for me to understand initially as it has a lot of similarities with K-drama tropes in the MV and if this was a k-drama no body would have batted an eye in Korea but because it was this up & coming rookie group suddenly it's a problem lol. Love your reaction and discussion to this. Personally, I think it is great. It was also one of the first songs my kids and I were able to sing along with. They got some backlash for it but later they made Boy with Love, which others have said. But yes, they were young and your reference as a kid is movies and tv etc. I thought you guys nailed it and the frustration with wanting to be told what you want because honestly you want to be that for them when you crush on them. The time was way different, especially in my generation... which I graduated '95. Haha. This was a great reaction. Loving you guys. Love that you don't take it all so serious. No way he is pausing too much. I can see Evan sometimes want to say things but he's not in charge of the pause... maybe he should be one time. LOL. The reason all the songs you did was about school is bts writes about things similar to what they are living the first 3 albums are about school because most of them were in school then they wrote about youth and then mental health issues and more

i would also recommend you reacting to Just One Day MV! It was a b-side released along with the album Boy In Luv was in and it shows their already growing duality I think! It's a very soft more R&B song and it's def a fan favourite

War of Hormone got a lot of criticism mostly from a mistranslation but I’ve never been offended by it. This video did bother me bc of how Jin and Suga treated her. The making of showed how uncomfortable Jin and Suga were doing it. I hope y’all are feeling well now.

Boy in Luv is such a classic. I’ve always loved this song and seeing them and their baby faces 🥹 I recommend y’all some of my absolute favs from the boys, “Not Today”, “just one day”, “I need u”, and “Black swan”. If you want some solo stuff, RM “Seoul”, Jhope “Hope World”, Suga “Daechwita”, Jin “The Astronaut”, Jimin “Set me free pt2”, V “Love me again”, and jungkook “Euphoria”. These are just a handful of stuff from each of the members and I can’t wait for y’all to check out more!

Lol, I was laughing when you started talking about sentimental song and so on. It’s a fun song and joking about it is normal, so relax. I rather have the video on pause than people talking through the songs. I’m sure it’s a hard balance trying to figure out what would please your audience with your reactions. But I say everything in moderation is probably the best option. I have watched thousands of reactions of BTS and like reactors who pay attention to the lyrics like you did and having some discussion as you did. Laughing and joking in moderation as you did since it’s a fun song. I thought you guys did great. I also like to say that I appreciate you wanting to take it from the beginning of their career than be all over the place because that tells me you have a genuine interest in them as a musical artists. So keep doing what you’ve been doing. I had fun watching this with you.

i don't relate much to the lyrics of the song bc im not really into romantic stuff but i sure like it musically. always been more into rock and harder beats.
but yeah when i was in school, i didn't really want to talk to people, other than my best friend (who is still my best friend 30 years after we first met in 7th grade). i didn't wonder about how to approach people i found attractive, bc to me they were just like "oh she's pretty" like one would admire a painting but i didn't want to get together with anyone.
i only learned years later that i'm autistic lol. probably part of the issue.
but damn i like the sound of this song lol

About the treatment of the girl - I gave you a over long TEDtalk about Korean dating style under the Jungkook's new song Seven. How he was literally looking like he was Stalking that girl and I said you need to understand For Future Videos In Your Bangtan Timeline Series that is their dating culture. NOW we are there. And you are going to see also more of these, their dating culture references in some of the next videos. :/
(Also some of these videos, and some of their lyrics sparked a lot of negativity from people saw them - and it made RM really apologize and start to learn from his mistakes. And so since then, he has had a women studies professors as his sensitivity readers who point out his lyrics, if there has been something to point out after this..)
Also I'm sure others have also been commenting how they have literally later version of this song ! From a more emotionally mature point of view ;D Good Call! 💜 This is "Boy IN Love" (selfish point of view) and that is "Boy With Love" (inclusion of the other person). 💜
Also I'm sure hundreds were telling you that there is shooting videos about all of their music videos and there it is clearly shown that Jin is apologizing again and again to that girl actor that he has to throw her against the locker. 💜

The MV definitely did not age well but I get it that they were just young boys and Korean boys at that. The culture is very male dominant. However, I still love the song musically and I agree it’s a banger.

Hi! I'm enjoying your reactions to BTS, please keep going ^^ 💜💜💜
I can't remember, is your plan to listen/see their songs chronologically but by watching only the music videos?
If so I think your next one is "Just one day"? Among the songs that have an MV it's the first one that is more mellow (there's still rap in it but the song is softer), I hope you enjoy it!
If you're not set on watching only songs with MVs, I would like to recommend reacting to a live version of "Attack on Bangtan" (best one -in my opinion- is this one: ruclips.net/video/gP0Vo0U3Yn8/видео.html&ab_channel=SnowBall ). The live is from 2016 (so they had already accumulated some experience in regards to performing on stage) but the song is from 2013, so I'm not sure when is the best timing for you to react to it... 😅
