Mr Haus im still working my way out of a very desperate time in my life but its getting better. I appreciate all the information that you guys have shared.
That's always been our approach to customers, and if we are really unsure, we make a sample board of what they want so they can visualize it. Great job as always Tom!
I agree with you 100 percent about asking the customer for their opinion on a color. Color an look are a perception thing. When you have 10s of thousands of dollars laying on the ground, you want to make darn sure your customer will love it. I'm a contractor in the same county as you for close to 15 years, and all of my customers have appreciated being involved. Thanks for everything you share with us.
Morning Tom! Didn't do concrete, but did do pavers. We always listened to the customer's wants and ideas, but weren't afraid to let them know if we felt something was "off". Remember, you are the professional and do this every day, they do it once. Most times, the customer's could see our point and changes would be made, either to the color selection, layout, elevations, etc. Sometimes they'd want to stick to their original plans, that's good too - they're the ones paying. If they're happy, then everything's good. We, as contractors can only control our quality of work. Colors, design, etc. are either the homeowner or designer. We can suggest, but ultimately it's their choice. It is painful to do a great job, but have it impacted by some of the customer's choices.
Very well said Terry! I was a building/ remodeling contractor for over 40 years so can relate for great customer service. You just need to show the professionalism that Tom does & you'll be ok. When I had a customer that was apprehensive & I thought they could make a better choice, I'd just say with a heavy emphasis & a smile, "Are YOU sure"??? This usually took care of things quickly. If they wanted it their way, I'd just make very detailed notes.😄
I worked for people who thought doing stone with a concrete truck was too expensive. My feeling is the labor you save alone offsets the cost. I also like using a vacuum truck to remove excess soil for Philadelphia basement dig outs and underpinning.
I think it's great that if you have a concern, you have a conversation with the client and have them there to involve them. You take their "wants" and make them a reality. Your experience and artistic ability are what they hired you for. You and your crew do excellent work 👍
Transparency and communication on both sides is the only way it works. I have actually excused myself before starting a job at the last minute because of a misunderstanding on their part. There were no hard feelings but it would not have worked the way they wanted. Keep up the good work Mr Hause
Good morning Tom, your decision to move Lock Step with your Customers is something that you can be proud of and I hope the word of mouth chain of the neighbourhoods is reflecting the added benefit and it’s reflected in their smiles. I use to read a Bernstein Bear story to my kids that was about getting a wagon stuck in a bog/swamp and being left there because they didn’t stop and consider all the factors and trying to push through it. 😀👍👍👍
Tom never seen the base rock delivered in a concrete truck. I have used a truck and trailer that pumps P Gravel to backfill trenches but never base or crushed. That makes life easier. Great lookin jobs as always..
Ps: forgot about the Question of talking with the customer when doing something different to your normal techniques. Yep 100% Agree - When in doubt - talk it out. The greenish hue may look terrible to you , but the customer loves it, or vice versa... Never hurts to discuss with your customer, i see it as good business, and i would appreciate a Contractor discussing things like that with me, because it would not be putting doubt in your customers mind, because your excellent work speaks for itself.. Me personally, i think you did what is right, go with your gut, and i KNOW your honest, and do great work.... 👍
Had one customer specify concrete as black as we could get it for a front sidewalk stamped with a Belgian block profile. They insisted that they knew what they wanted. It wasn't cheap since stamping is more work and pigmented concrete costs a lot more. But the end result, when driving past, looked like they cheaped out and got an asphalt sidewalk. Apparently they had seen something in a magazine for Halloween decorating ideas and liked it.
You may not remember but like I said back then a person never retires everyone else at home your working on a Sunday morning that's what owners do all the responsibility is on you your a good dude
Tom, can I use poly sealer on older concrete? Love watching you guys work. Total professional, there’s too many contractors that do what they want not necessarily what the customer wants.
The music selection takes me back to the 50s. Kudos to your music director (Emily?). Agree Tom, that charcoal with black border (I think that's what you said it was) looks fantastic.
I think using your RUclips videos as sort of a catalog is a great idea. The projects ive seen you do would be perfect to give me the ideas for my patio or driveway. The pool pour was my favorite this video. Borders really make the pour shune, but that black border was amazing. Such beauty in their backyard. I agree w you, if you could have got on their balcony and filmed, that angle would have been super good, or drone shot. One thing i have to say, if your customer has just moved to your area, then maybe they aren't familiar w TSH. But if they've been living there, there's no way they can't be familiar w your work. TSH is the company to go to for top notch quality. For tedious jobs most companies won't touch. For high end homes. For concrete pours done artistically, that's TSH. So there's little to nill chance anyone will wonder if you know what you're doing. Quality first. Example; the really high end home that had exposed aggregate walks connecting the buildings. The pour happened on a very cold day. The ground was too cold. The edges of the walks cracked, like the next day. You showed us all of it. We saw you handle that in such a cool, calm way, I was amazed. All that beautiful, expensive work was pulled up and hauled off and redone like it was an everyday occurrence. The frozen sub base was overlooked. You learned from that. We learned that any defect in your work will be corrected wout emotion or delay. That's double quality. Quality work and quality crew. Oh, you know what you're doing, and if something is overlooked or goes south, TSH will, wout hesitation, correct and make it right. We saw this on video, so it's very true! The basement steps on Tommy's house, there's some video proof of the artistic quality TSH possess. The gaslit diving rock on your pool is another. With the library of videos showcasing TSH out there for anyone wanting a top notch pour to see, gives us a little catalog of pours to choose from. So cool! TSH benefits from your videos. We enjoy your videos. Your family and friends are in some videos, so there's sentimental benefits. So, turning that camera on is a very good thing, indeed. Today's video was awesome!! Thanks!!👍❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
I think it's a good practice to involve your customer if you too have any concerns. I wouldn't like it if the contractor have doubt's and didn't address the issues and I wasn't happy with the end results. It just shows your integrity, professionalism and pride you take in your work. I've never met you but watching your video's and watching your attention to details I would recommend you as a contractor. If you were closer to me I would you, great job as always.
Great approach to customers. Doing custom and one offs at their request can be interesting. Some people can see what they are asking for, some people have have no clue and it is your experience and advice they are paying you for.
Great looking job Tom, i really like the black and the Charcoal, my fav. Border everything looked really good. I had an idea, you may have already thought of but, numbering your videos. Reason a potential customer sees a drive, patio, basement what every they really like, they can tell you> " i want something like your video # 6-12/24-1 "or something etc. Donna could perhaps do that fairly easy on the editing, not sure, and it may not work for you. Just a thought. love the videos Brother :) 💯🙏

I did not pour the border and we wanted to get the project all done and see how it looks and as a matter fact, we are heading back to seal that this coming up week
If you were able to get a sample of the certain release from your supplier and make a 2’x2’ or smaller sample and put sealer on it. That may be something worth doing to save headaches and money , something with stamps in the winter make a display of stamps and do different colors of release that are most common for people to see just a thought .
That mostly makes sense for the combinations that there aren't photos of actual work. Or for unique settings. The concrete can't just look good in isolation. It has to fit in with everything around it. Smaller samples can be taken to the job site to try to see how a proposed texture and color would work against the house/deck/landscaping.
+ Can’t agree more Sir , it is concrete after all , very small chance for modifying , has to be done fast and on the spot , you can’t predict their taste , al contraire , this proves that your intention is to offer a verity of good choices and as a true professional you don’t want to just chose for them … 😎
So I take it you don't do the dusting method anymore. I bought some of those paint stirers for mixing paint because I hate hand mixing especially when the paint was never mixed at the store.
If u have a concern its definitely best to go over it with the customer that way if a problem does arise they were well aware that it could happen. U totally did the right thing i think.
some customers you think you cant please no matter what.......they always have that questionable annoyed look on their faces......its not you its them.....i had a sister in law just like that, when i talked to her she acted like she couldnt grip to what i was saying and had that annoyed look on her face......it was just her with me......i think i talked too fast for her to comprehend......or maybe i rubbed her the wrong way just breathing, i did find out later she was always judging me because i was on disability......anyway i think its them not you, i dont judge anyone......you dont know what someone is going through

In the aspect of after care . Once the concrete needs sealed again. Does the coloring need reapplied?

Great camera shot out of the truck.
The rock under lay supplied by the concrete trucks will help clean out all the mixing equipment, so no wonder they are happy to supply strait rock.
You stole my thunder here. Chucking some stone occasionally sure makes sense to me. Tom has had them deliver stone before like this😊
Good looking pool area!
I never seen a concert truck use as a slinger truck to place gravel I used slinger trucks that are designed for that.

Absolutely
Good idea
I made a mistake years ago and learned a valuable lesson I tried to clean sealer can with diesel and it turned to rubber in the hose of the spray can.
Good to know
