I know this all happened many many years ago but I'm very glad she never needed the dagger.
Wars happen because we stopped seeing each other as human beings.
Stories like these show how human we really are.
Now I kind of want to hear the happily Ever After part.
I am aware occupation was hardly a cakewalk.
Thank you for sharing this story.

Hirohito had called for peace talks in Oct, 1944, after Saipan fell. For all their supposed 'love and devotion' to their Emperor, every military leader refused to proceed with that initiative.

When Japan started using the kamikaze tactics , I'll never feel bad for the use of the two atomic bombs . Not that I feel the United States were or are superior because we aren't, but with the way that Japan insisted that no quarter was given,no quarter asked. That form of control over the military had to be stopped. Was there other ways of finishing the war? Probably but how long would it have taken.

They demonstrated an “ anything to win “ mentality . So you know if the Japanese had developed a nuclear weapon that they would have reduced the US to smoldering ruins

USA had already razed 50 of Japan's main cities to the ground.
Japan was already a defeated Island nation without an actual navy.
Kamikaze attacks were strictly against military objectives.
American bombing was directed towards overwhelming Civilians.

Lost in the discussion is the fact that Japan decided to start the war. And after that they kept delusional thoughts of winning the war. By early 1942 the Allies were already able to carry out hit-and- run raids, demonstrating the Pearl Harbor attack was not as successful as they initially believed. Then came the Doolittle Raid, followed by the Coral Sea, followed by Midway and followed by Guadalcanal. Things went downhill from there. The Kamikaze threat was being countered as their tactics became familiar and methods of dealing with the them were developed. Just like the banzai charges of the infantry, which became sacrifices at the alter of the machine gun, these suicidal planes would become as ineffective as those banzai charges. All these few pilots accomplished was the utter destruction of the Japanese people through fire bombings and eventually the atomic bombs. Yep. they really showed the Allies a thing or two, didn't they. By August 15, 1945 Japan was fighting the 3 largest armies in the world: Russia, China and America.

    As per Wikipedia:
    Air to air combat
Task Force 58 began flying off fighter aircraft which were to sweep over the airfields around Kure at 6:18 AM on 19 March. As they approached Kure, the 20 Grumman F6F Hellcats of VBF-17 encountered 40 fighters from the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service's elite 343rd Kōkūtai. In a battle which lasted 25 minutes, six American and four Japanese fighters were shot down.[13]
