    • @mikkaanderson5939
      @mikkaanderson5939 6 лет назад +1

      Doesn’t need it because he isn’t going to be chopping anything with it. It’s a cutting knife so only hardening is needed to keep the edge for longer and prevent scratches.

    • @xj9779
      @xj9779 6 лет назад

      Valhalla Rabbiter I don't think so if he drops it accidentally it might break like glass I recommend to let it temper for 2 hours at 150 degrees Celsius to get the glass hard go away it is still very hard after that. Depending on the material he uses

    • @mikkaanderson5939
      @mikkaanderson5939 6 лет назад +2

      XJ9 Well yeah it’s always good to temper but I’m just saying that he doesn’t need to. It’s a lightweight little knife and it is steel after all so it probably wouldn’t smash. Oh and thanks for telling me how much to temper it for in a oven because I didn’t know :) I only temper with a blowtorch.

    Ouch I can’t help noticing that at 4:26 you quenched with water. Seriously try not to do that because it can shatter knives. Definitely should use oil but if you HAVE to use water then at least slightly warm it up first.

    • @OddTinkering
      @OddTinkering 6 лет назад +1

      It really depends of the steel you are using. He's using high carbon steel so you are probably right but you can also make a decent blade with other types of steel. The idea is not to make the blade too hard. If your steel doesn't harden that well you might have to use water to get it hard enough. Also for example some spring steels which make great knives are supposed to be hardened in water.

    • @wedoalittletrolling6812
      @wedoalittletrolling6812 6 лет назад +1

      Actually, quenching with water is quite risky, but oil is usually better for tempering the blade, not for hardening. What I'm most concerned about is that you would have to wield it in 1 individual finger which creates huge risk for broken fingers. Also, for newbies that don't know how the karambit works might get hurt by holding it in the wrong direction. (Accidental self-stabbing.) (I'm a victim of one.)
