I got one month doberman-puppy and he likes to bite. I understand he was trying to play but it hurt me, do I need wait one more month to teach him?

+Yunie 张 Puppies that are very mouthy need to learn a certain set of skills. 1. Impulse control, puppies should learn to be invited to play. 2. Bite inhibition, when games of tug are played with the necessary rules, it can actually help teach puppies to think through the excitement and control where and how hard they bite. 3. Arousal control, how to from calm to excited and back to calm. Watch more of my videos to learn about how to use play in training or set up a consultation by filling out an assessment form on my website: www.legendsdogtraining.com Thanks again for watching! - Alyssa

Bri Thanks for watching! This video is about five years old. If I was training this Doberman today, in that environment, my timing and rate of reinforcement would look very different. I would mark the moment the desired behavior is offered and I would also use a higher rate of reinforcement. It's possible that I was withholding reinforcement until I felt he truly settled into the desired behavior or offered more focus, or maybe I just didn't have my coffee yet that day. ;) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I hope you'll subscribe. Best, Alyssa Rose, CPDT-KA

Alyssa Rose yeah... I can see when the video was made. And I can also see your slow clicking thats why I asked about it but what i didnt ask is your life story. sorry to crush your dreams but I'm not subscribing to your channel if you can't properly train a dog. Other than that your dog is beautiful and have a nice day...one more thing dont bother responding becuase im not willing to waste my time over this.😂😂

Bri oh damn, you got me. i appreciate the fact that you won't respond, but .. this is kinda what I do for a living .. so I have to. Even if it's just for others that might come across our thread. If a behavior is well established, the timing of a marker and reinforcement becomes less critical. I could cue a dog to heel, or send a dog to place and mark and reinforce after 5 seconds or 20. In fact, many trainers will use the clicker to signal the delivery of reinforcement and the end of the behavior. For example: click and play a game of tug/ throw a ball or toss a treat. There are different ways to use the clicker in that regard. I would argue that if the dog is offering consistent, reliable, enthusiastic responses to the cues - something's going right in the training. Marking at the exact moment the dog offers the behavior is more important when the dog is first learning the behavior. And I agree, Koda is a beautiful dog. Best to you, Alyssa
