    A most delightful video ride. Well done VB. I don't mind being overtaken but I often wish I had a sign on the back of my car " hurry up and you can catch the back of the queue ahead". I know many will not agree with me but I believe that having the right of way all depends on the other driver seeing us. Taking the right of way for granted is not a good mindset unless we are in a tank. I ride my bike with the same speed rule "drive at a such a speed that I can stop short of any obstruction in my line of sight". I am not perfect, I make mistakes so I have to be careful.

    I just love the relaxing beat of a single cylinder Royal Enfield be it your 500 or my 350, for my money the best fun I have had on bikes in the last 53 years. Just enjoy the ride and be aware what other drivers might do to you, I work on the theory that I am invisible, so assume there is every chance you will get cars etc pulling out in front of you. 😊

    Wonderful sound with the Royal Enfield singles! I love the relaxing ride and pace they encourage. Well done watching out for the inattentive cage drivers and those that are always in a rush due to poor planning, or on an EGO trip trying to prove something. Then there are the honest mistakes. I went head on with a van that ran a stop sign and turned left into me one morning on my VTX1800 in 2005, Helmet, leathers, and the Grace of God saved me! I was also only doing 45 mph before braking all I could. Wear the gear, and like Peter234100 said ride like you are invisible. Stay safe and enjoy the ride!

    Two weeks ago I was returning home at 5.40am. Climbing an uphill left hand blind bend, a car appears driving towards me at speed completely on the wrong side of the road. Slam brakes on, stall engine and brace for impact. At the last moment he/she whips the wheel over and misses by a hair's breadth. From first seeing it to the rear view mirror in 3 seconds max. I assume they were on the phone, or expected no one to be about at that time of the morning and were using the racing line. No amount of defensive riding can accommodate such lunacy.

    Hi VB, love those country lane rides, and the sound of that thumping 500, as you said ride only as fast as your braking distance, the problem we seem to have in Kent is young female drivers, they tear up to junctions expecting to pull straight out,the same at roundabouts, and just pull out past an obstruction like it’s there right of way, bloody dangerous some of them.

    • @Volcanicbrown1878
      @Volcanicbrown1878  2 месяца назад

      @lyndenhodder5655 I know! We have them here too. They come up to a side juction at 60mph and brake at the last possible moment, They scare the pants off me thinking they are just going to pull out without giving way. Some live to a ripe old age and some just become statistics.

    Enjoyed the video, really like the 500,that was a very close shave with that classic car pulling out on you good job you weren't on the750 Interceptor you may have been going with a bit more urgency, and I'm not sure what the stopping power is like on those!(although I think you've got Norton twin leading shoes?)

    • @Volcanicbrown1878
      @Volcanicbrown1878  2 месяца назад

      @patrickgreenman8248 I saw him way before he saw me! If I had been on the 750 Interceptor I still wouldn't go faster than I could see to stop. The braking on the Interceptor is now top notch after fitting the Norton twin leader on the front, I just can't be doing with bad brakes for obvious reasons!

    • @patrickgreenman8248
      @patrickgreenman8248 2 месяца назад

      My Elder brother always reckons a good twin leading shoe is as good as a disc,so your Interceptor will probably stop better than my T150 with it's chrome plated disc , which I think we're never much to write home about!

    The Royal Enfield 500 single gives you much more value for your money than the 350 does. You cannot put a Kickstarter on your 350. Royal Enfield should have continued production of the 500 it is a bike that cannot be replaced by the newer liquid cool models. It also has a great character on top of everything else.

    4 riders killed on Scottish roads last weekend, one beautiful young lady with her entire life ahead of her, killed at a roundabout riding a white Ducati. A couple on a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 and someone else on a GSXR also killed.
    Mr Brown gives the best advice ever, ride like there is an Ayrshire farmer coming round that blind bend on his Massey Ferguson tractor, take in the scenery, feel free and at one with nature, driving at 96mph on a supersport you are liable to miss all of that and even worse.

    I've got a late model Battle Green 500 and like your chrome version, they really turn heads. The all new 'Plastic' 350 is nothing on the 500 for more reasons than I care mention but being fake springs to mind. The all new Classic 350 is just a generic modern bike dressed up to look a bit like the 500 but it's all fakery. Fake battery box, fake, air filter housing, fake optional sprung seat (with fake springs), plastic chrome dials, with plastic 'glass fronts', 35+% less power and 35+% less torque. Fake plastic side boxes, with only metal fronts and an engine where you have to take the tank off at every service to adjust the tappets. The 500 has hydraulic tappets, so they adjust themselves. Just my view. Oh and a back up kick starter as well as electric start with the 500 but not with the new plastic 350...
