Hi James, I appreciate your reviews, especially of the locomotives, thank you! They are a great help, especially for those who are thinking about getting back into the hobby!!!
When I got mine I was very impressed by the sound! It's the most real sounding model of the Big Boy you can get. Broadways may have a smoking whistle effect but the sounds aren't that great.
Good review as usual.. Seems like you just did a review of an Athearn version of 4014 a couple of months ago? It might be useful to bring the Athearn out in this review (or in other reviews where multiple manufacturers make the same thing) and do a side by side comparison. You've done that a time or two, I think when discussing BLI vs. MTH Daylight coaches, and it really helps highlight the differences between manufacturers.
Hello! I just bought this loco! So excited! I was wondering where you got all of your UP passenger cars. I would love to do a similar setup, but I can't find these easily. Any suggestions?
A little bit of diluted white glue will prevent that fuzz ball coming loose in the future. In my opinion, the fuzz ball was not a showstopper. Good thing I am not a UP fan cause I'd need to have one of these. Like your short structured reviews.
Nice review..... would like to see a little more compare/contrast between all the other big boy offerings out there. Not to bash any of them, but to just show for the money what you get, and don't get. I love the ESU sound but have had a couple of them fry recently making me worry about durability. So for example comparing Soundtraxx vs ESU vs BLI.... or MTH sound. Thanks again...
simply put for anyone not wanting or can't spend $500.00 to $600.00 dollars its worth the money.hard to beat Locksound decoders..wonder why they didn't offer one like there C.O.H 8 which is really detailed to the hilt an uses Loksound on there newer runs. Great videos as usaual
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ENTIRE RAIL FAN COMMUNITY IS EXCITED ABOUT THE RESTORATION OF THE ALCO 4-8-8-4 UNION PACIFIC #4014 BIG BOY TO OPERATIONAL CONDITION. ALL ABOARD!
The radiators are not accurate as they were placed on the front of the locomotive behind closed doors before the second run to protect them from damage.
+Makitaization Sorry to hear that. That's too bad ... mine has never derailed. I've had cars uncouple ... but they're older cars, that have since been upgraded with Kadee couplers, so it's all good now! ;)
Disappointing loco. I have two of the earlier model, and other than the LED lighting this loco looks to be the same. Still no brake detail! The decoder sounds ok, but why coal shovelling sounds on a loco that was mechanically stoked? You would be better off getting a used one from ebay for $140 and putting a Loksound decoder and LED lighting in. I think Hornby/Rivarossi are trying to steal a march on other manufacturers by offering 4014 as a road number. Shame they didn't bother about the other prototype details.
+P Mason I wonder if the new version still has that awful electrical pick-system? It drives me crazy on the Rivarossi locos I already own, I curse Italian engineering every time I run them.
Fusion - Clash Royale My friend, I live in a country which is a democracy, a place where one can express an honest and constructive criticism without fear of Nazi-style comments or reprisals. You obviously live in some Banana Republic where you cannot stand any views other than your own. RUclips is not the place for you, try Ku Klux Klan or any other para-military right wing organisation, you will fit right in. Of course, you could always try and say something constructive but I believe that it would be beyond your clearly limited mental abilty. Have a nice life, but somewhere else!
IMPRESSIVE INTRO AND FINISH, BUT LIKE NBC, WE HAVE TO TURN THE SOUND UP TO HEAR YOU AND THEN GO CALM THE BABIES WHEN YOUR PROMO BLAST THE SPEAKERS OFF THE WALL. BALANCE PLEASE.
been trying to raise the volume on the whistle or lower the volume of the steam and cuffs no luck the front light started to flicker had to reset decoder changed drive wheel the brakes are glued on to the trucks very hard to get the clip inside to release pickup wires are very delicate be very carefully but doesn't want to go backwards now cause i took the traction wheel off not going through that pain again
I bought Rivarossi Big Boy dc 4008 junk I have a Bachmann 4-8-4 that hit the floor it has a lot more power thin my bigboy mmmmm what's worn with this picture
plastic no marker lights no lit number boards no smoke coal in tender no rear marker lights whistle very weak and the cab windows look cheap. Not worth 400 plus imo
mth trainsrgreat Yes, it is a disappointment when so much more could have been done to improve the old loco. If they were turning it out at the $300 mark you could accept it, but at that $500 it just doesn't cut it with the competition.
Riverossi made some great U-Boats lately, but this thing is by far a piece of crap. If you want a good Big Boy, get the Athearn Genesis or wait for the BLI one.
This is a good priced loco, and finely detailed. An overall good value for the loco. I don't think anyone wants to buy a $600 HO scale train model. Think before you talk, dude. There is an insane asylum downtown, I'll take you there if youd like.
Kevin Renner Yes, they are indeed rubbish. And this is just old rubbish dressed up as something new. I had four, all now sold for something better. Thank goodness there are better versions available!
James, Over and over with just locomotive reviews. Becoming repetitive and boring. There are other things to review if you just want to do reviews. Freight and passenger cars. Scenery, tools, buildings, kits, accessories, electronics.
i sense some jealousy or just a miserable person. how about you step off. i,m sorry if your not as good as James. but i think James does amazing video,s. as a friend and fellow model railroader. if you hate his video,s so much as you state you do.... then why is your miserable self still here? great video James as always sir.
+IBStevieB the only rule I have sir when it comes to this Hobby. is to support one another. model railroading is supposed to be fun. not tearing each other apart.

Cool do a video of it pls
I want to see a review of the new BLI 4-8-8-4 with Paragon 3 sound. I've been following you for years. You give the best reviews hands down!
I have the Athearn Bigboy 4005 and I am very happy with it. Its one of the best running locomotive I have.
Hi..I love your locomotive reviews.....they are a really appreciated.....keep up the good work...thank you..
I wish I had my old Rivarossi big boy. It was No.4012 or 4016, can't remember exactly but I want No.4014. Awesome review. :)
Great job James ! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.. Lance 🚂
Nice logo. I still have one from them from the 80's. In the old maroon box. Still runs good.
I mean loco not logo.

Hey James i know those bridges are MTH at the end of the video, are they 2 side by side or one duel track? thanks
This is my favorite locomotive!
Can this run on DC? Or is it just DCC? What system are you using for power? Highly considering this or the Athearn.
I didnt even know Rivorossi was making a Big Boy. Would like to hear how it stacks up the giants of the industry (MTH,Athearn, etc, etc)

Hey James what's the min radius curves for this Locomotive? I have a 22" radius for my 4x8 layout at the moment.
Hi how much do these locomotives that you buy usually cost?

will this go around a hornby radius 4 curve
Nice review!
Great video
The light is dim cause there is so much power being took on the class 4000 locomotive
You should compare it to the Athearn big boy.
Lol! You need a big camera for that big boy😂😊😀
Seems like theirs been a sudden influx in the amount of "big steam" being produced lately.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ENTIRE RAIL FAN COMMUNITY IS EXCITED ABOUT THE RESTORATION OF THE ALCO 4-8-8-4 UNION PACIFIC #4014 BIG BOY TO OPERATIONAL CONDITION. ALL ABOARD!
damn rlly nice but the price plus i plan on going to the bigboy excrusion
How many cars can it pull
The radiators are not accurate as they were placed on the front of the locomotive behind closed doors before the second run to protect them from damage.
Not bad ... but can't compete with my MTH UP #4007 Big Boy! Will never give it up, nor buy another. I've got the one I wanted ... I'm happy.
+John Bellucci I also have an MTH Big Boy. It derails more than any other engine I have.
+Makitaization Sorry to hear that. That's too bad ... mine has never derailed. I've had cars uncouple ... but they're older cars, that have since been upgraded with Kadee couplers, so it's all good now! ;)
@jlwii2000 what is the minimum radius for this locomotive?
18 r
I Have This One!
which size
Rivarossi & RAIDERS!!!!. Oh Yeah.
*_TOP_*
nice train i oways wanted a big boy but it is to big for my layout.
How cars can it pull by itself
Half the cost of this model is probably in the packing materials. ( that's a joke by the way )

Interesting that some some young children needing parental guidance think this is actually a great loco! Luckily we all grow up eventually.
I really don’t think You Own all these trains that you are reviewing !!!! Hmmmm
PLEASE SAY IF ITS DCC OR NOT JESUES CHRIST
Eric Wejman read the title
Eric Wejman reckt
Hornby or is it Märklin?
I myself wouldn’t recommend this model, but I would only get engines from Athearn and Broadway Limited Imports
Nice loco but not worth anything to me without smoke. That is too much money anyway you slice it.
