wow! The only thing I've ever been told about saliva's effect on teeth is how it deposits a lot of calcium on the back of the lower teeth, which has to be scraped off. I didn't think about other minerals in saliva. I recently started with a new dentist, and she found that I needed $10,000 dollars' worth of work done, including for periodontal disease and gingivitis, etc etc. I am skeptical, of course.
Wow! I’m 74 & always had great teeth. I lost a molar & got a very bad infection last November. The antibiotics made me so sick - I was nauseous almost the whole time. And then re xylitol crystals, you can absolutely use that instead of the mints or gum after meals and drinking. I’ve read 1/4 teaspoon. Just let the crystals dissolve in your mouth, swish it around for a few minutes and then spit out - with no rinsing afterwards, and don’t eat or drink anything for at least an hour.
