    I'm a 30 year master certified RV tech that owns a independent shop so I can tell you things dealers and people that work for dealers cant. I see a lot of late model cougars come in with roof problems, soft floors and even delamination and even on this new one I see the sloopy job the manufacturer did butting that roof against the fiberglass cap. Thats a leak waiting to happen if its not already leaking. no vapor barrier in the outside bays thats going to let moisture in from your outside bays that will eventually lead to mildew and odors. Plus I'm sure its on a lippert frame so make sure you get it reinforced before you warp it hitting a pothole. That window on the front is another leak concern plus how expensive is it if a rock goes thru it to replace? these are things a well informed RV shopper should be looking for besides how pretty the colors are or if the Floorplan is right for them or if they want a table and chairs or booth. and as a tech I highly recommend you get any new or used RV inspected by a 3rd party before purchase. The stuff being built new since the pandemic started is the worse I have seen in over 30 years doing this. Its well worth the cost because modern factory warranties will try to weasel themselves out of paying most claims so do not use that as a crutch or let your dealer use that as a excuse to let you take a new camper with defects. And aftermarket warranties are a absolute complete waste of money. All you are doing is giving the dealer a few extra thousand in profit buying one of those. Dont buy a camper that will fall apart before you can finish paying it off. they all look good new. Look at a cougar or whatever brand you want to buy new that is 5 or 6 years or even 10 years old if you want to see how well they hold up. Good luck and be smart. Dont get fooled or roped in by a good dog and pony show.

      Thank you! Yes leaks are a big concern I've been seeing and hearing. Even several of the inside so called 'decor' serms to be cheaply thrown in (like the sheer curtain) just to make $. Don't know anyone that likes a bulky dinette in smaller couples trailers.

      Thx for offering some insights TJ but it's important I think to mention that *nearly everything you've said here could apply to the RV industry at large* & is not specific exclusively to Cougar while your comments are highly cougar-focused.
      A rock could go thru an RV's windshield as you've mentioned.. sure. it could also go through your vehicle's windshield and the vehicle is on the Road daily rather than only occasionally. Your trailers also has the benefit of a vehicle in front of it blocking most of the frontage with a stone guard below where the majority of stones it anyways.
      Is there an RV you feel isn't guilty of all of the items you've discussed here? I'm all about sharing information but what's the alternative?

    • @NavigatingChaos
      @NavigatingChaos Год назад +13

      I could do without a window in the front easily. There's plenty of windows, and having a big one at my head...that is also a rock magnet...is not necessary.

      @rss021815 Год назад +10

      Our Cougar took a rock in a construction zone this year and it chipped just like an automotive windshield will. I think these are automotive windshields so while I hate chips I'm not concerned about it breaking anymore than my truck windshield.

    I would get rid of the dinette and put the tv there with a fire place. I would also make it so the tv come up out from behind the fireplace with a remote. Don’t need a privacy wall because nobody else would be there but me. But they could do the newer version of the bifold door🤷🏽‍♀️ Full time is exactly what I’m looking for.

    I purchased one just like this about a month ago. The door shade opens from the top now and the black screws above the kitchen sink are now white. But Josh, you didn’t tell everyone about the theater seats, I was surprised that they were heated and massage seats and the cup holders are also lit along with an accent light underneath them. But what I really found out that I thought was the coolest thing was the iN·Command was Bluetooth compatible. You can do everything from your phone. I’m just astatic about this cool little camper.

    I’d also like to add on the 2-way fridge. Had a time at Warren dunes last year flooding caused electric out. My propane available on my fridge, and my solar, kept me camping with my grandkids AND I was able to help other campers who were hit much harder in the situation. Electricity can go out. I like the back up, I had not bright my generator that trip. It was a savior

I always prefer a north-south bed because it gives lots of night stand space for my "stuff." Uncle Josh, you rarely take a wrong step. i finally got my 22 mls out for a trip a couple weeks ago.came home to dump the tanks into my holding tank for my guest suite.turns out the idiots at the factory didn't plumb the grey water tank and the only thing holding the grey water in was the cap for the hose to connect to,or it's plumbed after the release valve.that was an interesting discovery.i'll find out tomorrow when it gets into the dealers..also the facia that covers the slide mechanism fell completely off some time during our travels.i clipped off all of the staples that held it on and used proper screws with screw caps so when i eventually have to remove it to manually draw the slide in it will only be a matter of removing half a dozen screws to take it off.my dining table bracket mounts had all the screws miss the studs,so i redrilled all those after moving it to the left half an inch,a couple window valances came loose,and the shower door handle is coming off,but i still like the unit.very comfortable 2 person and a dog travel trailer.love the 400 watt solar.i didn't use the generator once in a week long trip.the only reason we came home was our water tank was empty and the others full.mine is a 2022 mlswe edition and it's a little different than this model,2 way fridge,table and chairs,different privacy curtain and a/c,no bedroom windshield or door blind, and the inverter plugs are in different spots.if you're a boondocker this is an excellent unit.not sold on on demand hot water though.there's no benefit for boondockers.i have it in my home and you still get a blast of cold when you turn on the hot water and you will use more hot water when off grid.

    We have a 26RBS, and have it with the booth seating and the two way fridge. I would still take the 200 or 400 watt solar set up, but had a 12 volt DC fridge in our previous trailer, and those things are an energy pig when off grid. It would take all of your 200 watt solar system just to keep it running for 24 hours, and if you have a cloudy day or two then you are in trouble. I will take the 2 way fridge for sure as we are often off grid several days at a time, and thus can run it on propane and not suck my batteries dry. I do have 200 amp hour of battery, no solar on the roof, but have 200 watts of portable solar which I really like as when in shaded camping spots you can usually find a sunny spot for my panels. Also carry a jackery 500 for charging phones/computers etc. Basically we can stay off grid until we run low on water or start filling our grey/black tanks. Have thought of a generator, but those things are heavy and noisy and require you to carry gas cans around....I can understand why some folks go the generator route, but no thanks, not for me. Great review of a really nice trailer by the way...As always, safe travels.....

    We just bought a 2022 MLSWE exactly one month ago and we love it! My wife and I have watched TV where I was in the theater seat and my wife was in bed and we had no issues seeing the TV comfortably. We have the gas/electric refrigerator but I do wish we had the 12VDC frig instead, especially since we have the 400i solar package. I do like the lighter color in this year model and I know my wife would LOVE that front window. We don't have the shoe garage. I didn't realize how nice that would be to have till we didn't have it! But, we have full length drawers that sit under the dining table benches that is amazing for Storage-Galorage! My thought is why not the best of both worlds? Shoe garage on the door side bench and full length drawer on the bathroom side bench!! We have the 15k btu AC and it made it COLD inside the coach in 104 degree heat!! I tow this with a 2021 Chevy 1500 with a 3.0L Duramax diesel with no issues. In the month we've owned it we've already put 1500 tow miles on it! My wife and I love our trailer and we can't say enough positive things about it!

    I agree with all that you mention here Josh! This is a very nice couple's camper that is just right in size length, weight capacity, amenities, and overall fit & finish! This is a model that can be used in most State and National Parks, fits in most all 1/2 ton tow rigs, and provides good living space for extended use traveling.
    As far as this model; I think I would also prefer the table option over the dinette, but neither is a show stopper for me on this unit.
    The thing that I hope other viewers appreciate is the level of detail and explanation you provide in the build features and user functions! I was watching another RV channel before I viewed this upload of yours; While they were informative, it felt generic, and pale in their commentary. You are very smooth and polished, with a nice blend of wit, and humor! Please keep doing what you are doing; I, for one, have learned a great deal of information on the various brands and models that you represent in your dealerships!

Feels huge inside. Glad you spoke of tow vehicle. We recently saw one of these at a campground being pulled by an SUV. I'm certain the dealer assured him that it was fully capable of pulling it. Maybe downhill with no luggage, tools, propane, etc. Ruined transmission waiting to happen. Glad you're willing to do what's right instead of what makes you the most profit. I really like this Floorplan! Defimitely booth, although the curved aesthetic with no door or drawer is kind of a waste. Love the shoe garage. The window coverage is awesome so do not block it with a wall. Road mode is phenomenal, something I didn't think matters but as time goes by with lesser road mode I appreciate it. Having 190 W and 12V fridge, I would go 400 W because a cloudy day is all it takes to allow the fridge to take over with only 200W.

    Hey Josh, on a previous video you did on this model you indicated you could upgrade the solar panels to 300 watt panels. I seems like the best option is to get the 400I package and just change out the two 200 watt panels for two 300 watt panels. To me the best deal would be for you to order a 400I package with the panels deleted and when the 22MLS gets to your lot, you install the 300 watt panels. That way you do not waste the two 200 watt panels. Unless the 22MLS can be ordered from the factory with the 400I package with the 300 watt panels already installed.

    This is a great layout for the length/weight of the trailer. As a couple's camper, I'll give a big vote for theater seating! Personally, I have a slight preference for the dinette for the extra storage, especially since they offer the "shoe garage" (my current trailer has no good place for shoes and it drives me a little crazy), but I would be okay with chairs. We currently have an open floorplan and I wish I had a curtain for when one of us gets up and turns on lights, or goes in or out of the trailer when one is in bed.
    Josh, you'd mentioned that you can mix in cold water when using a tankless heater, just like residential, but I had heard adding too much cold could cause the flow sensor to turn off, resulting in a blast of cold water. Do the newer models avoid this somehow?

    I like a private bedroom. I think its different then a hotel setting because in a camper you have a bathroom, kitchen, and living space all in one room. Definitely one of the nicer layouts for a couple's trailer. Once in awhile, I'll see a great layout, just to find out it's as useless as teats on a boar, with the slides closed. Closed slides that block access to the refrigerator or sink is bad enough, but blocking access to the restroom is absolutely unacceptable.

    As an enthusiastic Cougar owner of a 2022 TT I cannot get past the bed arraignment that seems to be in every Cougar TT. There is almost no legroom around the bed and on the driver's side, my side, you have to scoot to the end of the bed because of the water connections and pump being next to the bed. We love our Cougar except for that. I wish they would fix that issue. Great job Josh keep up the good work.

Even when they claim to have a desk they tend to forget about a knee hole. 😮 I would put the table and chairs in my basement and get a proper desk and chair from Ikea for the space under the window.

    Nice layout. Keep doing the road mode views! For the kind of money Cougar wants, a better outdoor kitchen would be nice. I would go with the 12vdc fridge and the 400 watt package, tied into two LIPO batteries or two deep cycle wet cell, would be no problem running the fridge. Definitely would install a heavier privacy curtain. I used two blackout curtains and a adjustable shower curtain on my Surveyor. Works great.

    I have a dog so I want him to have more “zoomy” space. I think a table and chairs would be good. Mostly so that I can put them up and put a crate there and give him more space. I think so many people have pets and campers don’t give me many options for space for a crate. Also for me the sink in the bathroom isn’t something I need but I would much rather have a larger area for a toilet. I’m fluffy.

    My wife and I are looking at couples 1/2 ton towables. I like this one very much. Floor plan is fine. A booth is preferred. Love the king bed. Not concerned about the open bedroom. Theater seats are a must. We don’t boondock but I would consider a small solar package. The TV location is ok but I have to think there is a mount that would allow you to pull the tv out and down a bit. You can pick apart any RV but this one we like overall. I don’t understand why suspension equalizers, wet bolts and heavy duty shackle straps are not standard on all towables. I’ve done this upgrade on our previous travel trailers and would not hit the road without them.

I’d prefer the booth dinette, as having a 2nd sleeping area let’s it do double duty as a buddy camper (without the John Candy “those aren’t pillows” moment). Since I boondock and want to handle 3+ dark days, that they offer a propane fridge is a must. Wish it were a 3 way so you could run 12v in transit. Less efficient, but alternator offsets that. Solar wise, I prefer solar prep, as the system I’d be picky on what went on there (though I’d have to see their 600 watt system).

    This is still a favorite for us even though it does not have clothing storage for full-timers. Right now it is neck and next with the Imagine XLS 22MLE even though I like the I400 solar package of the Cougar. No one has been able to tell me if the 2,000-watt Inverter on the i400 package will run the outlet under the entertainment center above the dinette. If that is true it would save the $12,000 cost expense of the i600 package. I say that because Camp Host RV parking sites are always partially shaded and almost in every case I could bring 400 watts of solar with me that I would wire for 48 volts (in series) that would come into the water bay where I would mount a separate Victon 30-amp controller via a 30' cable set. Ground mounting an extra 400 watts would not overpower the two Dragonfly batteries as the Victon controllers are very good and they would know what to do with those limited solar windows where the USFS doesn't allow very many trees to be cut typically so that the Camp Host has the best solar setup (My magic pruning saw is powered by Elves who don't have 20 pages of forms to fill out forever limb cut, LOL). Anyway, please shed some light on the AC power Outlet shared with the dinette. I have an Acer Chromebook with an Acer external 24" monitor and a Brother Laser printer that I power with an extension outlet. On my Lance, I have to run a drop cord back to where I installed a dedicated outlet near the bed where I mounted our 700-watt inverter in the storage bay. It would be nice not to have to run the extension cord on our new travel trailer, obviously, LOL. I like this floor plan because we would squeak by with our current F-150 as we can tow 10,200 pounds until we could get a 3/4-ton later on. Could we still tow with the 26mbs? Hmmm, more homework ...

I don't know what the percentage is, but many had chips and cracks in the windshield and it is super hot during the summer. I haven't been able to find one down in the south as they are out west...sadly. It has come down to the Keystone 22MLS and the Imagine 22MLE. Without the windshield, I'd buy the MLS in a heart beat BUT...can't find one. The windshield is also another leak point (although that is not my big issue with it). So if I'm going to be a little picky here I wish they would move the speakers down to the left and right sides of the stairs. Now this goes to every manufacturer not just cougar They always say that they have a you know heated underbelly that's between the frame rails only All of us have crawled underneath one of these that own one and there's a lot of space on the sides of the outside of the rails that is not insulated in any way.
