Based off Gluto's win over Miya here, and how extremely close his set at WTT was vs acola, I think Gluto could definitely become a consistent threat to all of the top 10 pretty easily this year. He's definitely my number 4 for 2024.
The only one that I can't see him winning again is honestly Sonix, just because of how horrible the match up is for Wario considering the caliber of a player that Sonix is on top of playing the worst match up of Wario.
6:29 Yaura vs Umeki had to be the furthest thing from a close game 5 set I've seen in a long time. Umeki won games 1 and 2 fairly dominantly, but Yaura absolutely destroyed Umeki in games 3 through 5 for a reverse 3-0.
Good rule of thumb is that if the characters main gameplan is to run away, people won’t like watching them. A slugfest is fun to watch, two people camping each other out is not.

If I had a nickel for every time a sonic main sd with homing attack in top 8 of a major in 2024 I’d have 2 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
I think people get very in their own heads about what characters and matchups are boring. Grands was a good fight between rivals, doramigi’s min min is awesome, and so was this top 8 in general

This was a lit tournament. No need to defend it. Its just that the top 5 players in the world are so much more scarily consistent, so it can bendisappointing when they win because the matches wind up not being nail-biters.
I surprisingly agree, while usually watching Acola makes me want to turn off the video, MiYa vs Acola sets always feel so hype as you have 2 great friends at the top level fighting and you never know who’s actually going to win.

Shutons final SD against Miya was so depressing. He was doing so well until that and lost confidence in aegis. Maybe if he stuck aegis he would’ve won. Who knows
Look at the gameplay not at the characters. Japan players put in a great show with creative gameplay. The only two real campers are Ken (most of the time) and Acola (sometimes)
i kind of hate the way this community unanimously agrees that a matchup is bad and then just sticks with that philosophy forever even if it’s outdated. like i seriously doubt samus v olimar is THAT bad. she has so many moves to get pikmin off her and her projectiles are still an issue for olimar. reminds me of how people constantly say zss beats game and watch when that matchup is horrible for zss 😂 impossible to hit him and every gnw combo is true forever on zss because she’s so tall. even marss agrees that she loses despite the popular opinion
Acola vs gluto was hype. There. I said it. And it wasn't just gluto's fault. Also grands is an incredible case of acola's insane adaption skills (Suck it steve haters)
An amazing top 8 as usual, at least in terms of the skill needed nd the players making it. I think Steve should be banned, but even then you cannot deny the insane amount of skill acola has. Or any other player making this top 8 for that matter. Sure, this might not be the most fun to watch, but if you really enjoy this game on a higher level, then you should enjoy all the games played here. Big ups to the players for their talent and RisterMice for making these compilations for the community!

too many people defending this top 8 i can’t lie 😭 like bro japan plays optimal and optimal play is lame asf just to be straight up like they’re fs the best region but the better you get the more boring the gameplay is gonna be most of the time
oh god.. what a horrible set of characters. change gluto with a pacman, rob or snake player and it would be hard to top. ofc you can always have a top 8 with multiple steves and sonics, so i guess its still lucky that there is only one of each.
