I am loving Dr. Steph's presence on this platform!
Such a great podcast. My Mom had to be my advocate when I was three. I had speech issues, but they wanted to label me with other things as well. I did the speech therapy but my Mom said no to all of the labels that were unnecessary. In the 80s there were no discussions about systemic racism. She worked with me and both of my parents were supportive, resourceful, and had high expectations for. I'm also a proud HBCU grad from Thee Jackson State University and have a Masters in Public Administration from University of Colorado Denver. Always be your child or family's advocate.
I was surrounded by negativity and didn't even realize the people I was supportive of, were trying to break me down and discourage me.
Great video! Have you all considered referring to yourselves as Joseph and Steph instead of your titles? I can see if this was a video series for church or ministry, but it’s more personal and that would be a more relatable touch.
I really enjoyed this segment. The both of you are very down to earth.
Thank you for your enthusiasm about education. So many times within the black community, the best things we tell our children, try and finish school, don’t get pregnant, or go to jail and hope our black sons get killed to senseless violence. Education is so very important, along with blacks fathers being present, thank you black mothers for holding us together.
People would ask me why I was going to college in my forties.
This is the most I have gotten to hear from Dr. Steph. I already knew she was brilliant, but the passion she has for education shined bright in this episode. Looking forward to the next one❤❤❤❤❤❤
MY uncle and cousin were school teachers. I used to think they were mean; I know now why they were so hard on us.
❤️🙏💯bishop walker...❤️🙏💯first lady...luv yall..frfr💯❤️
So motivational and inspirational! Thanks for sharing your story and faith showing all things are possible with GOD! And Thanks for pouring into and giving back to others. “Freely you have received Freely Give”
GOD bless you. 🙏❤️
Loving the gear!!! And the coinciding topics of conversations in each video! After hearing Bishop Joseph during our AKA Boule, I was so intrigued and inspired by your life-story. Sooooo, when this channel recently popped up on my YT feed .... I had to do a double-take! As a Theological Seminary Alum with a counseling background, this is what the progressive community needs. BALANCE!! The whole person!! Faith actualized!! Quality, standards, "the grind" of education, Greek-life, career, as well as conflict-resolution, the miraculous, intentional-parenting, stability, vision and beyond! Thank you Dr. Stephanie, "You don't know my GOD!" Grace!!
Thank You for using the Blessings God has Bestowed on You to Bless and Educate Others. Y'all are speaking straight facts. I'm just seeing this episode. Definitely been there where staff @ schools don't believe in us. Yet I graduated in 3yrs, debt-free, w/ honours (Cum Laude) & in the Honors Program. Then walked w the Masters in 2ys w 3x the grad credits, founded a club & so much more (w a full ride). A lot of people will try to limit you because they are limited themselves or in their thinking. But my main thing in college was to have a workout routine daily(no excuses); cut the phone off @ a certain time; and only party after all your homework is done. My husband graduated from college, played football & had 2-3 jobs. He's definitely strong! I'm happy that superpower leaders like y'all are showing people it's possible! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Bishop and Dr. Steph this conversation was very informative and inspiring.
I have found you a couple days ago the first one was about how you met and about your transition in your marriage. You're both so authentic and I just felt inspired by you two power couple. This one came right on point as I am returning to school to complete my bachelor's in Public health with the University of Maryland Global campus and will take advantage of the wisdom and resources through scholarships. May you be blessed Indeed THANK YOU !!!
To my grandsons, the grandsons of Melvin Drake.... Live in the reality! The legacy he left you. Overcome the obstacles placed in front of you. He did it and so can you. ❤ Be better than!
Awesome advice.👏🙏 Where's the Cornell gear?
What an awesome segment. THANK YOU for sharing your stories and emphasizing the importance of the “grind” to ensure our success! The two of you are such a blessing and for us to watch you in real time is absolutely breathtaking! So proud to be connected to you both and our fellowship😍
Thank you for this Bishop and First Lady!! This is something I am going through with my daughter. I am definitely her advocate and always looking for resources to help her.
This episode really hits home for me! My husband and I are both 46 with a 5 year old son and just like you Dr. Steph I realize something was not right with Davis when it came to learning. I spoke with his pediatrician first but was dismissed so my husband and I found another pediatrician to take him to. After our first visit, the doctor advised us that Davis has Autism. I began to cry because I knew something was wrong but no one would listen to us until then. Davis started Kindergarten this year but now he has the school resources he needs to be successful!
Thank you both for creating this RUclips channel. I appreciate the transparency and the encouragement.
Thank you. This is my first comment on RUclips and I just want to say thank you. Very encouraging.
You two have such a wonderful journey. It is very enlightening and refreshing. You give such positive insight on real life situations. Thank you for sharing ❤
I love this! Thanks so much for sharing! I recently had my son tested and discovered he has a learning disability, so this really hits home for me. Thanks for all that you do😊
Thank you for all the golden nuggets you are leaving for us to think about and process!
Dr. Steph when did you find the time to work with your daughter? The school day is long and they are tired after homework.... how did you fit it in with out her disliking school?
Thank you for such an inspiring conversation! I shared it with my son.
Thank you, Thank you. I love this series 😊

The same thing happened to my son in 4th grade. He was gifted and bored.

This is GOOD!! My learning style is very similar to yours, Bishop. Dr. Steph, you are on FIRE, ma’am!! lol Glory to God for this channel 🙌🏾✨and thank you both for your willingness in terms of transparency and truth!!
This is true!
There are so many of our children, especially black boys are labeled as such and place in special ed.
We know what happens there: drop-out due to bullying and feeling not important.
Once they are labeled, their record follow them thru-out school years.
Their new teachers, coaches, etc will see them, without knowing the child for themselves, as troubled, special need, and HDDD, what ever its called, child.
STAND-UP for your children.
They need U!
DO NOT LET TEACHERS LABEL YOUR CHILD in a negatively way.
Talk to your children daily when they come home from school.
Ask them about their day! They’ll tell U!
GO SEE THE TEACHER!
TALK TO THE PRINCIPALS!
TALK TO THE COACHES!
This is CRITICAL in our schools and beyond.
STAND UP for our children!
THEY NEED Us more than we know.
DON’t LET THEM PLACE your child in a special class or label something is wrong with them.
Yes, something is wrong with them; bored and/or not challenged at school.
Also, reality, we as blacks ALWAYS have to be a lot better due to the color of our skin.
We always have to prove ourselves when we’re just as smart as everybody else.
Is it fair? Of course not! ⭕️
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your encouragement for the academic world is extremely helpful to me. I remember having to be an advocate for my children in high school because they were under valued.
Thank you all for being so transparent and sharing important information and advice. Keep sharing your stories and tips -- this is truly a blessing. Also, I am shouting "AMEN" to the comments on excuses. I am very familiar with the definition of excuses. Your lessons on how to been better, do what you have to do today, etc., are great, too. Sharing this message, right now, with family and friends.
My son is attending a HBCU -- 1st year.Thank you all again. Have a great day on purpose. God Bless. 😊
Yes, thank you so much for the information Bishop & Dr. Steph.. it's so many people would love to go back to school, but the debt is what keep so many people from going a little further
This is such an important episode. Parents must be present for their children, especially in education. I have each of my children’s teachers our phone number and participated in PTO.
