Hey dude this is not even his claim, and the rainwater hypothesis is straw manned here and I dont like it, its actually the claim of a phd geologist and geophysics of Yale University named Robert Schoch if youd like to do more research, the actual claim is based not on the sand erosion this youtuber points at but actually to the enclosure surrounding the sphinx which is made of bedrock the sphinx was carved out of and is thusly the same age as the sphinx and has deep vertical fissures that Schoch found to be identical to the way rainwater erodes from top to bottom instead of that horizontal angled erosion that is clear on the front of the sphinx. There definitely was uncertainty about whether the island was abandoned and reoccupied by Polynesians (maybe even the dame ones) or continually occupied. But their culture that they used to have is good as extinct. They didn't have anything close to the material cultural evidence they used to. And you couldn't call the Moai statues as having been made by the proto-Easter Island culture, since that would suggest the past culture eas a work in progress and the current culture the final product. Too much changed for that terminology.

ok but the “ancient aliens” shit makes me so mad because its so clearly racist. its ONLY ever non European civilizations that did amazing things that get the aliens theories slapped on them. “Egyptians HAD to have alien help they couldnt have possibly done all that on their own” “they couldn’t have known about this astronomical body, white people didnt yet!” etc etc

I agree but there are theories that aliens built Stonehenge in England too. But yeah the ancient alien bollocks takes the much deserved credit and respect away from our ancestors because morons think they were dumber than us. No, they were as smart as us they just didn't know what we know today. Put a baby from caveman times here with a modern family and they'll grow up just like you or I.

The Sphinx has 3 different erosion sources, none point to a super ancient origin. There’s the wind/sand erosion up top and along the inner walls, there’s also rain/water erosion that goes down the walls of the enclosure, and there is some flood/water erosion along the bottom of the enclosure from when the nile flowed much closer to the Giza complex and when it flooded ground water would begin to fill parts of the enclosure.

There are places in the Badlands of South Dakota that show 100% similar erosion to that in the Sphinx enclosure, and the USGS itself, as well as any other source you can find, attribute this to water erosion. To me, the layers in and around the Sphinx are just showing ancient geological patterns that the builders revealed, and water did the rest. People use this is proof that this process of erosion happens over tens of thousands of years, to the Sphinx must be that old. As mentioned in the video, it does rain in Egypt. And if you go back 3 or 4 thousand years ago, it rained quite a lot, supporting a good bit of agriculture in the area. This part of the world goes through periods of wet and dry over millennia. It doesn't take a ton of rain to do this kind of erosion. The badlands area of South Dakota took millennia to erode, but it did so quickly in geological terms, having started as small escarpments along rivers. So, I believe it's entirely probable that the Sphinx is about 4,000 years old, and so is the water erosion in the enclosure. Sandstone and siltstone erode very easily. I'm a news sub, thank you!

He’s telling you that just because 1) he doesn’t speak any language beyond English (like many Americans) so probably he doesn’t know how full of ancient aliens bullshit Europe is, and 2) because he’s a college age kid from deep-Blue Boston so naturally EVERYTHING bad on earth has to be linked to wHiTe SuPrEmAcY in one way or another (while the myth of the “good savage” has to be upheld of course).

@@falcon_arkaig it’s actually called the myth of the “noble savage” when translated in English, so my bad there.
It’s basically a concept popularized mainly by Rousseau from the mid 1700s onwards (never read the “Émile” or “Discourse on Inequality”?), who basically thought that man in origin was just an “innocent and pacific animal”, and that humans became “capable of evil” only later, after complex societies actually formed and progress corrupted the spirit of man from within.
But that’s the philosophical root of the whole thing. Nowadays it has become just a way of sugarcoating the history (and several other aspects) of certain cultures in respect to others by following the principle that “non-developed=pure” and “Western society=the root of all evil”.

@@marlonmarquez4798 Every nation has her crazy ancient alien bullshit, even when they don’t get funds to make it into an actual TV series.
For example in Italy you go from aliens being stored down in the Vatican since Ancient Rome, to the Sardinian alien ruins, to mad conspiracy theories with a race of demigod alien angels (the “Elohim”) at the center, to a waterfall of other similar bullshit for literally every region. In Russia there’s an avalanche of this shit just on Dyatlov Pass, Tunguska, Arkaim (the Russian Stonehenge) and the Siberian Traps. In Germany there’s everything from Nazi aliens traveling in time with the “Vimana” to the Goseck Circle and the Pömmelte Sanctuary (the German Stonehenge), and a load of similar things all over Europe from France to Ireland to Poland, Greece, the Ukraine, etc.
Even when working in Spain I had a colleague who explained to me in great detail how the Spanish government is completely denying access to a bunch of caves in the coast of Cantabria, keeping them a secret because there are “alien maps and alien graffiti that show how aliens created us to replace the Neanderthals”.
These are just those that I remembered off the top of my head, but there’s a gargantuan iceberg to go through if you’re as interested in human stupidity as I am :)

Perhaps teenagers doing tiktok videos aren't the best representation for some of these theories? (or anything really, but that just my opinion). As far as I know, the Sphinx water erosion theory is in regard to the walls of the enclosure, not the Sphinx. The Sphinx, due to its shape and exposed location in the middle of the enclosure, is far more eroded and weathered than the walls, and it has been repaired on many occasions over time. The walls, however, have faired much better (in terms of needing repair), and have remained largely untouched. The strata are irrelevant. The rounded edges, cracks and rivulets along the top of the enclosure walls though (apparently) indicate that large or frequent amounts of water was running over the edges at some distant point. According to the original theorist, Robert Schoch, sand erosion and the small rainfall the region receives every year does not explain those patterns. Remember, the sphinx and enclosure has been mostly buried in sand for the majority of its known history. According to Schoch, those patterns of erosion (on the walls) must have therefore been caused by an early period of frequent rain and flooding. Which, according to the geological evidence of the region, predates the period that the Sphinx was supposedly built/carved. Since the enclosure is assumed to have been created at the same time as the Sphinx, this means that the Sphinx must be older too. Adding to this is the fact that the head of the Sphinx is oddly small in comparison with the body, leading to the theory that the head may have been refashioned into the likeness of the pharaoh from a pre-existing larger head.
Perhaps Egypts yearly rainfall in the periods that the enclosure has been uncovered by sand, and the sand itself, were enough to create those erosion patterns. I don't know. But I personally don't think it's unreasonable to consider that the Sphinx might be an older artifact than those around it. I don't buy the "no evidence, therefore bullshit" response. The erosion pattern is the evidence. Whether Schoch is right or not, is the question. I also don't just buy into every alternative theory that seems to make sense. But I do think some are worth considering. Because the sphinx was carved, is hard to date it either way. Just because some of the stone from the enclosure was used in nearby buildings though, doesn't mean that they had to have been built at the same time, or necessary, indicate when it happened. I don't see what's so crazy about considering that the people of Egypt before the great pyramids may have been more sophisticated than currently thought, and capable of creating the Sphinx, and also building monuments. Perhaps they created the basis for the pyramid complex, much like Stone Henge with its different layers of history from different generations of use, except in Egypt that early period was literally just covered up by the later expansion of it. Or perhaps there was some big disaster? I don't think that's an unreasonable proposition/speculation. After all, they went on to create the pyramids. And supposedly achieved a huge level of sophistication in a relatively short period of time. Everything else aside, this aspect at least is worth questioning I think.
I get that alternative theorists are a huge annoyance to orthodox historians, especially with all the sensationalism they create. Which is an aspect that, I agree, tends to stink of bullshit when they are getting book sales and doing tours and interviews, and netflix specials, etc. But still, amongst the quagmire, I think some ideas are worth considering. Tiktok videos though, are not helping either side by the looks of it.

In case anyone's interested, here's some details/corrections about Frank Joseph/Collin. He did found the National Socialist Party of America (NSPA), but he was never the leader of the National Socialist White People's Party as Miniminuteman states, just a coordinator. He was actually kicked out of that organization when it was discovered that he's Jewish. His father Max was at Dachau and has written about this, and had he not changed the family name, their last name would have been Cohn. Frank was then kicked out of his own organization when it was discovered that he was involved in the sexual abuse of young boys, and NSPA members turned him in to the police. As far as I know, after that he was pretty much completely estranged from Nazism. It was when he got out of prison that he started going by Frank Joseph and writing pseudo-scientific new agey stuff about Atlantis and stuff like that. Pretty strange and messed up guy.
