Mixing tips - Internal vs External SIDECHAINING
Sidechain Compression is a very nice mixing technique that can be used to help you get more control using compression (Internal) and also to bring and instrument cut through the mix (External).
There's even some creative and musical effects that can be done with an external Sidechain. In this video I want to show you the difference between Internal and external Sidechaing and how you can apply this in your mixes.

Hey Chris, you give us a lot of very useful info such as "side chaining".
What I like most of all is that you are a Cubase user.
Cubase was my DAW of choice based on the "fundamentals" of mixing.
As a FOH mixer in the "forgotten" 70's, it appealed to me because I could customize every aspect of my "BOARD" for the project at hand.
Most of the fundamentals of mixing I learned 40 some odd years ago but, I found out CUBASE is a hell of a lot more than just a mixer.
Cubase has so many "TOOLS" we didn't have in the 70's. I find myself playing around with some of the "TOOLs" knowing what it is I want to do but, not really knowing how to do it.
Trial and ERROR usually gets me there but, then I scratch my head and tell myself, if I start from scratch I will not achieve the same result.
When you start scrolling through all of the menus and settings in Cubase, it can be quite daunting. And if you have a specific question about a specific function in Cubase, it can be quite time consuming to find the answer.
Greg Ondo and "Club Cubase", I just can't sit through. Dom Sigalas, great keyboards, midi knowledge and I have learned a lot of nifty Cubase tricks from him that i wouldn't even have considered if he hadn't pointed them out, just not the type of music production I am into. Wish I could play as well as he!
Chris, you seem to have the same style of musical interest and the same approach to mixing as I do. And you use CUBASE with a lot more knowledge of the enter workings of the program than I.
And you are a pretty damn good drum player. Or is that Grove Agent? "Just Kidding"
I guess what I am getting at is I would like to see more in depth content specific to Cubase and how to do such things as editing, group editing, time aligning multiple tracks, pitch correction, tempo detection, compiling multiple tracks. All the things that were next to imposable (but still achievable with fingers crossed) in the 70's.
As far as the basic tracking and mixing in Cubase, Straight forward.

actually, sidechain is active but not recieving the input signal (in the input level meter, so it is not sending the output signal) 'but' the interesting thing is that the compressed signal is showing up' somehow, which is cool' BUT this does not effect the reverb channel in my case.. still having that lushy reverb is surrounding the vocal signal.. (side chain is not working my friend ) which is not cool.. seems like a bug..
in the forums i cheked and saw that people gone mad about this..
