Really like the look of this one. Could really do with some northern lights effects in the snow biome & is just BEGGING for some cryptid or horror-themed mods. Particularly with all the dense woodland & creepy abandoned cabins dotted about. Definitely buying it when it gets finished. I hope you'll go back to covering each of these maps you've spotlighted once they are done.

The beaches and swamps are accurate btw. Mangroves are in brackish water meaning it’s fresh water mixed with the sea. It’s how swamps are in the Caribbean/Florida when they are closer to the ocean. Awesome review btw! :)

Never been so hyped to watch a video, was hoping you'd cover this map! Was so excited when I saw this map come to ASA, definitely a lot missing like you said but I think i'm going to buy it, the landscape looks amazing! Nice to see a mod map that isn't heavily focused on Fantasy.

Been really loving these mod map reviews. Your videos are always made to the highest quality. Great review, the map looks great...It really does need artifacts, caves and bosses though, it will be perfect with a hard snow cave and an underwater cave like the caves from The Island which you did mention. Hopefully they fix the in-game map, that's more than a 3rd of the map missing from the visible in-game map!
@@oceanbacon3535 Im in western nc and its very different from the rest of nc. More of a southern hospitality here I'd say. Was a bit of a culture shock when I got here 7 years ago. But Im liking the atmosphere. And maybe not as diverse depending on where you go. Winters tend to be longer, this year it was cold until beginning of April with a couple of warm weeks between march and April. And we have good craft beers everywhere XD I'll will say when its nice outside, its hella nice. Perfect temp, nice summer breeze and you'd wanna stay outside all day kinda weather. Air tastes good too

Then scorched, then the center, tame everything and then build a zoo for all the creatures. My goal was wild creatures, but I don’t know if that’s going to work out. I may need to improvise 😂
I've recently been playing this map. Pros it's absolutely massive open more flat easy to build on cons you will see some terrain features that get reused over and over
Idk if anyone else has said this before or if you already know it but I do believe the mod dev is working on a mothman and a giant beaver boss for the map

So just to let you know there are bosses they are very rare and they roam the map the obelisks are indeed meant to be destroyed think its part of the maps lore and yes there are still terminals around so you can upload and download players and transfer between arks so still very functional the map is intended for those wanting immersion rather than all out fantasy you wont find floating islands in the sky you wont find everything you need in one part of the map you will need to travel wide and far for some resources and you will feel like the map can feel a little empty in some places for creatures but I promise you if you give this map a try you will fall in love with it, it has brought me back to a game that consistently disappointed me in recent times and I'm happy to say now I have this map I will be investing thousands of hours into it just like I did in ASE on Ragnarok and the Lost Island . It's still a WIP but it isn't as far from finished as some of the finished and released official Maps in my opinion give it a go and buy this instead of a P2W pyromane its the same price for 1000 times more content

Thank you! It is a great map. I have been keeping tabs on the Discord channel, lots of issues have been improved/implemented already! That makes sense with the Obelisks. Can i just ask what bosses? I have not seen one world boss and it took me like 15 hours to record all this footage haha, very surprised I never saw one XD
Awesome review! But as far as the snow temps...The temperature in the Appalachian mountains varies from summer months to winter months. During the summer months or warm points in the year, the average temperatures range around 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, winter months range around 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

I did read up and was surprised to see it wasn't really cold until the Winter season and I think that's around the temperature that I read up that you mentioned, so guess because this is ARK I kinda want it to be colder like the Winter season at least, bit odd being that warm all the time if playing ARK XD
Definitely missing some of the best parts until caves get added and big dino spawns. I’ve gone back to Svart now it’s had some new hobbit/lotr styled areas like the giant gold cave which is like the gallery of kings now with a Raas statue in 😅
Haha yeah I love Svartelfhiem, such a good map! Really looking forward to Nekatus' new map he's working on! Giga, Carcha and Thyla's were added right after I finished editing this video haha so they are slowly coming at least!
@@BEYPlaysGames that’s great news 🙌 one thing I do wonder is with svart unfinished, this map and neks upcoming Greek map with separate cosmetic mods how much time is going to be dedicated to those and how much to the one’s people have already paid for. And if other new maps start being developed how bad is it going to affect previous maps getting added stuff which was already in svart on ase, and the maps being polished etc.
Also shouldn’t mods be finished before being sold as premium? Or at least a separate early access because will they ever be 100% and live up to cash money
@@joej4164 Yeah i'm not sure with Svart. I heard that the premium version is still being updated though? Unsure about the premium mods being sold when not fully complete, I would definitely prefer them to be 100% complete as I would much prefer to review a finished map haha. But some are still missing a lot of content :(
Great looking map, This needs to be official. Those of us who have played sense ASE early release and those who joined after, need something new. Not one or two dinos but an actual new map. New features, building types, something that gives the game more purpose. Also great idea but PVE and maybe PVP needs dino raids or some type of reason to have a defended base in PVE and Map mini bosses are a must.
I tried it day 1. According to map and my cords I kepts spawning outside of map. Had very little tames and no drops. Haven't been able to open it sense. Currently doing my 3rd update of it tonight to try again after being away all week
The snow biome is gorgeous looking on this map though the map as of now seems incomplete and underwhelming. Despite that this is defiantly a map I’m debating on getting especially once it’s complete. Also hopefully they’ll add artifact caves and a boss fight
Totally agree, I would wait personally! I'm keeping tabs on the discord server and awaiting updates, I need artifact caves and a boss, the map does have potential to be amazing once all these missing pieces get added :D
@@BEYPlaysGames I kind of wonder if they do add artifacts if it’s going to be somewhat similar to The center by that I mean not all the artifacts are in caves which would be interesting especially if one artifact is in the last area you covered where there’s the snow cave creatures which I just completed that cave the very first time and it was rough so hiding an artifact in that area if they add more stuff and fix the meshing that would be a nice area to search for an artifact. They could perhaps add a hidden snow cave like the sky lord cave or snow palace or something

Boss fights and caves have never been important to me. It has always felt like an added grind at that point of the game. That said, it does seem incomplete without it, as it means needing to play on other maps in order to gain end-game engrams, etc. Fixing the dino spawns would be necessary for me to feel like it's worth it. I think that's why I like ARK so much. Because it's not always about the boss fights, I really love that grind personally so won't put any time into this map until the artifact caves and boss get added but yeah I agree, dino spawns need fixing. I did see that they added more creature spawns the last few days Giga, Carcha, Thyla, Beavers, Kairuku and a few more, so it's getting there slowly XD...No problem! Thanks mate :)

I tried out ASE version last month and found it was empty of dinosaurs when I spawned in, don't know if it was meant or takes ages for dinos to load in. Map in ASE did look great and thought it would look fantastic in ASA and I was not wrong, looks awesome but yeah, it needs bosses.
Yeah is definitely needs some more spawns and some fixing of overspawns! Haha the amount of Quetzals is crazy! Definitely a great looking map though, just needs some tweaking. artifacts and bosses and i could be my favourite mod map! We'll see I guess XD
hype!!!! every shot from this map looks so gorgeous and i actually like that the map's so huge i was a little disappointed when i got svartalfheim and realised you can go from one end to the other in like 2 minutes on an iguanodon

Never played a mod map before, so on this map can you transfer to other official maps? can people raid you on this mod map? can you raid others? can you transfer tames to official maps?
Some mod maps have their own official servers but I believe you cannot transfer to and from official ARK maps, which does suck a little. They are basically standalone maps when it comes to official but you add them to unofficial clusters if renting servers!
I honestly love the wife open space! But it kept crashing after a while while I was playing and wouldn't let me back on, any input as to how I can prevent this from happening? Xbox s
Yeah it is a great map, is it still crashing for you? I wish I knew why some people crash more than others but sadly I don't sorry! My wife plays on the Series S and the game rarely crashes for her so it really makes no sense :(

I wish they would fix this game, I love the game but it's so difficult to be postive knowing things like this happen to people. The only thing I can suggest if you haven't already is to try reinstalling the game again or install it on an external hardrive instead of the console itself.

Yeah that's the main thing missing from premium mod maps on official servers, it's a shame really, I can't see it changing sadly unless Wildcard buy the map rights off the modders :(
I don't believe there's currently any official servers for it at the moment, but you can play it through an unofficial cluster if you are renting servers, or know someone who does. There's still obelisk terminals on the map so transfers can still be done!
@@Tvmanwithnocontext A decent amount of changes, creature spawns being added, bunch of basic fixes I guess and the in game map/map alignment has been finally fixed!! Not a lot really but it's good progress XD
This map need a new creature, I’ve been hoping one day somebody would add a pack mule, yes we have horses, but mules are better on this terrain by far and would be an awesome companion to explore and adventure with ! Give me a MULE ❤
I agree! That would be awesome. There is the additional free creature mod pack for similar creatures I showcased at the end of the video. There is an Appalachian Equus variant within the pack! I have no idea if it offers any extra abilities to its vanilla version though!

This map can´t be useed, because you can´t see it on the launcher. Appalachia_WP seems to be the wrong custom map name. And when the map can´t be found, you can´t buy it, because the purchase option is shown when the login appears.

So it don´t work for me. I can´t load the mod. What did I do: I go to the nitrado server I install the mods Appalachia - Early Access and Appalachian Denizens I save the mods, and go to general to select ccustom and write the name in the writing field "custom mapname" And then it shows the text: The value "Appalachia_Official_WP" contains invalid special chars. Use regular chars or numbers here. And if I write Appalachia_WP, what is OK for the system, but the map will not be visible in the game launcher. And that shows, something is wrong. And the same problem is with some other mod maps. But some other mod maps runs normal. Such as Insaluna or Froglar, but I always have to write Froglar_WP oder Insaluna_WP. BUt here at Appalachia it don´t work.
@@BEYPlaysGames I solve the problem. When I wrote "Appalachia_Official_WP" it don´t work. It shows a fail for some reason. So I changed the language at nitrado from german to english and now it works..
Personally, how the map looks is as important (if not, less important) as content. Sure a map can look pretty but what’s the point of playing on the map if there’s literally nothing of any relevance to do?

Pretty common with a lot of these premium mod maps to put a price on it before completion. Most have a free version to test run minus Appalachia which doesn't. It's still a choice, unlike Wildcard shoving paid DLC creatures down our throats. I'd much rather support these modders making a whole new map than buy the Pyromane for the same price. It takes so many hours of work to finish these maps, I can't imagine doing that if this isn't their full time job! And even though it doesn't meet my expectations in terms of missing a lot of content that I believe is needed to call a map complete I've read that these things will be added in the future so I'm happy to contribute. I like making these videos because it showcases how finished or unfinished the maps are and will help people decide if they want to buy it, not buy or even wait a while and then purchase it later on.

@@soulmitsu Oh wow, i'm surprised by that, it did run quite well for me on both of those platforms, a lot has been added since I made the video so i would have to try it again and see for myself, i'm sorry to hear it's that way for you, hopefully things will improve once the game developers release this engine upgrade. They need that upgrade far more than adding new official maps to the game!
It's more unique in the variety of classic biomes and the substantial amount of rare resources but I do get your point, It needs to add much more to make it unique in that respect. I do hope we see more added features soon!
Is it that bad? I had no idea to be honest, I honestly don't think he really has anything to do with this map anymore. He's also working on a brand new mythological map that was announced in last week's community crunch. So i'm not really sure what's going on with Svartelfheim,hopefully he will still update it, it's such a good map! :(
@@rhettbutler5397 premium version is nearly complete, free version is no longer supported and is missing a whole chunk of the snow biome, as well as some artifact caves if im not mistaken, and its likely that it is much less detailed. Though i dont know specifics as premium is obviously superior so its what i play on
I'm going to take a guess and say that he's not involved with this map any more, it's just Kaluga now. Nekatus has been developing a new map too which was teased in the recent Community Cruch so i'd be very surprised! I haven't played Svart in a while, is that the Premium version you're referring to?
I mean, if you're referring to it not having artifact caves and boss fights I get that lol...Looks amazing to me, classic biomes, tonnes of resources, less of a Fantasy world, ticks all the boxes for me in regards to a map design at least!
I guess it all depends on whether or not you like Fantasy biomes and Fantasy creatures as it steers away from all that. I personally just think it need some very challenging artifact caves and a boss and I will put hundreds of hours into playing this map!
This looks amazing! Definitely loving the looks of it; like ASE (console, which doesn’t work 95% of the time) Aberration… if this works on consoles even 50% it will be amazing. And better than ab…
i will NEVER pay for mods. mods should be passion projects and not businesses. if we allow this, soon everyone will ask money for crappy mods and the whole modding community will die.
I'm only okay with paying for mod maps, but yeah it does scare me, I will never pay for single creature mods (I've seen a few out there on the market) hate the Pyromane pay 2 win DLC creatures and no doubt there will be more coming from Wildcard, I only paid for that because I needed to use it for a video!

I was referring to the countryside in general in America, I know the map is named Appalachia but there's no desert there if i'm not mistaken? I'm not sure honestly but there is a huge desert region in-game that kinda looks like the Texas desert to me, guessing it wasn't based on Appalachia itself but i'm not American so i'm kinda learning as I go with this map XD

It's still a WIP but it isn't as far from finished as some of the finished and released official Maps in my opinion give it a go and buy this instead of a P2W pyromane its the same price for 1000 times more content

Awesome review! But as far as the snow temps...The temperature in the Appalachian mountains varies from summer months to winter months. During the summer months or warm points in the year, the average temperatures range around 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, winter months range around 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Definitely missing some of the best parts until caves get added and big dino spawns. I’ve gone back to Svart now it’s had some new hobbit/lotr styled areas like the giant gold cave which is like the gallery of kings now with a Raas statue in 😅
Haha yeah I love Svartelfhiem, such a good map! Really looking forward to Nekatus' new map he's working on! Giga, Carcha and Thyla's were added right after I finished editing this video haha so they are slowly coming at least!
@@BEYPlaysGames that’s great news 🙌 one thing I do wonder is with svart unfinished, this map and neks upcoming Greek map with separate cosmetic mods how much time is going to be dedicated to those and how much to the one’s people have already paid for. And if other new maps start being developed how bad is it going to affect previous maps getting added stuff which was already in svart on ase, and the maps being polished etc.

@@joej4164 Yeah i'm not sure with Svart. I heard that the premium version is still being updated though? Unsure about the premium mods being sold when not fully complete, I would definitely prefer them to be 100% complete as I would much prefer to review a finished map haha. But some are still missing a lot of content :(
Great looking map, This needs to be official. Those of us who have played sense ASE early release and those who joined after, need something new. Not one or two dinos but an actual new map. New features, building types, something that gives the game more purpose. Also great idea but PVE and maybe PVP needs dino raids or some type of reason to have a defended base in PVE and Map mini bosses are a must.

I tried it day 1. According to map and my cords I kepts spawning outside of map. Had very little tames and no drops. Haven't been able to open it sense. Currently doing my 3rd update of it tonight to try again after being away all week
The snow biome is gorgeous looking on this map though the map as of now seems incomplete and underwhelming. Despite that this is defiantly a map I’m debating on getting especially once it’s complete. Also hopefully they’ll add artifact caves and a boss fight
Totally agree, I would wait personally! I'm keeping tabs on the discord server and awaiting updates, I need artifact caves and a boss, the map does have potential to be amazing once all these missing pieces get added :D
@@BEYPlaysGames I kind of wonder if they do add artifacts if it’s going to be somewhat similar to The center by that I mean not all the artifacts are in caves which would be interesting especially if one artifact is in the last area you covered where there’s the snow cave creatures which I just completed that cave the very first time and it was rough so hiding an artifact in that area if they add more stuff and fix the meshing that would be a nice area to search for an artifact. They could perhaps add a hidden snow cave like the sky lord cave or snow palace or something

Really good map
Boss fights and caves have never been important to me. It has always felt like an added grind at that point of the game. That said, it does seem incomplete without it, as it means needing to play on other maps in order to gain end-game engrams, etc. Fixing the dino spawns would be necessary for me to feel like it's worth it. I think that's why I like ARK so much. Because it's not always about the boss fights, I really love that grind personally so won't put any time into this map until the artifact caves and boss get added but yeah I agree, dino spawns need fixing. I did see that they added more creature spawns the last few days Giga, Carcha, Thyla, Beavers, Kairuku and a few more, so it's getting there slowly XD...No problem! Thanks mate :)

I tried out ASE version last month and found it was empty of dinosaurs when I spawned in, don't know if it was meant or takes ages for dinos to load in. Map in ASE did look great and thought it would look fantastic in ASA and I was not wrong, looks awesome but yeah, it needs bosses.
Yeah is definitely needs some more spawns and some fixing of overspawns! Haha the amount of Quetzals is crazy! Definitely a great looking map though, just needs some tweaking. artifacts and bosses and i could be my favourite mod map! We'll see I guess XD
Good map for roleplaying
i was struggling with hide and couldnt find any tames in some respawns areas i noticed. After 45 mins and only 60 hide i logged off til 2x comes lol
Yeah the creature spawns can be pretty scarce in areas and then in other areas you'll see 50 Quetzals XD

The area outside the mini-map (i.e past 100 lat/long) look a bit empty so I wonder if they're meant to be accessible... or at least accessible *yet*

Never played a mod map before, so on this map can you transfer to other official maps? can people raid you on this mod map? can you raid others? can you transfer tames to official maps?
Some mod maps have their own official servers but I believe you cannot transfer to and from official ARK maps, which does suck a little. They are basically standalone maps when it comes to official but you add them to unofficial clusters if renting servers!

Yeah it is a great map, is it still crashing for you? I wish I knew why some people crash more than others but sadly I don't sorry! My wife plays on the Series S and the game rarely crashes for her so it really makes no sense :(

I wish they would fix this game, I love the game but it's so difficult to be postive knowing things like this happen to people. The only thing I can suggest if you haven't already is to try reinstalling the game again or install it on an external hardrive instead of the console itself.
Playing single player I hope one can transfer in and out along with Dino's and resources, won't but until the nodes work.

I love the map other than those few things missing, I'm happy to contribute in hopes that it does get these things added quicker but I can see why a lot of people won't buy it yet(!

Tbh it runs quite well for me and about 10 times better than the Premium mod map 'Althemia' which I just reviewed! Which is twice the price also!

Yeah that's the main thing missing from premium mod maps on official servers, it's a shame really, I can't see it changing sadly unless Wildcard buy the map rights off the modders :(

Can you play on official and do transfers?
I don't believe there's currently any official servers for it at the moment, but you can play it through an unofficial cluster if you are renting servers, or know someone who does. There's still obelisk terminals on the map so transfers can still be done!

This map need a new creature, I’ve been hoping one day somebody would add a pack mule, yes we have horses, but mules are better on this terrain by far and would be an awesome companion to explore and adventure with ! Give me a MULE ❤
I agree! That would be awesome. There is the additional free creature mod pack for similar creatures I showcased at the end of the video. There is an Appalachian Equus variant within the pack! I have no idea if it offers any extra abilities to its vanilla version though!

He is! I honestly don't think he's too involved with this map any more, it was an ASE map before so he might have had some influence with it back then, It seems Kaluga is the one primarily working on it now!
This map can´t be useed, because you can´t see it on the launcher. Appalachia_WP seems to be the wrong custom map name. And when the map can´t be found, you can´t buy it, because the purchase option is shown when the login appears.
Appalachia_Official_WP is the custom map name! Did you mean it doesn't let you buy if from the mod section?

What did I do:
I go to the nitrado server
I install the mods Appalachia - Early Access and Appalachian Denizens
I save the mods, and go to general to select ccustom and write the name in the writing field "custom mapname"
And then it shows the text: The value "Appalachia_Official_WP" contains invalid special chars. Use regular chars or numbers here. And if I write Appalachia_WP, what is OK for the system, but the map will not be visible in the game launcher. And that shows, something is wrong. And the same problem is with some other mod maps. But some other mod maps runs normal. Such as Insaluna or Froglar, but I always have to write Froglar_WP oder Insaluna_WP.
BUt here at Appalachia it don´t work.
@@BEYPlaysGames I solve the problem. When I wrote "Appalachia_Official_WP" it don´t work. It shows a fail for some reason. So I changed the language at nitrado from german to english and now it works..

Nope, well...all engrams are there from what I can see, supply drops just got added (which weren't there when I made the video)
It's a beautiful map but it's so bare when it comes to wildlife.
They have added a lot in the last few days. Kill a world boss and you will never need to look for polymer again!

Why are they charging for something that isn’t done….
Pretty common with a lot of these premium mod maps to put a price on it before completion. Most have a free version to test run minus Appalachia which doesn't. It's still a choice, unlike Wildcard shoving paid DLC creatures down our throats. I'd much rather support these modders making a whole new map than buy the Pyromane for the same price. It takes so many hours of work to finish these maps, I can't imagine doing that if this isn't their full time job! And even though it doesn't meet my expectations in terms of missing a lot of content that I believe is needed to call a map complete I've read that these things will be added in the future so I'm happy to contribute. I like making these videos because it showcases how finished or unfinished the maps are and will help people decide if they want to buy it, not buy or even wait a while and then purchase it later on.
Some of us dislike Tek. Just me. So no artifacts or boss fights keeps PvP on a fair playing ground. Especially when playing solo

@@soulmitsu Oh wow, i'm surprised by that, it did run quite well for me on both of those platforms, a lot has been added since I made the video so i would have to try it again and see for myself, i'm sorry to hear it's that way for you, hopefully things will improve once the game developers release this engine upgrade. They need that upgrade far more than adding new official maps to the game!
The map is beautiful I love the realistic inspiration for it but the lack of a unique boss and artifact caves makes it useless to play on sorry

It's more unique in the variety of classic biomes and the substantial amount of rare resources but I do get your point, It needs to add much more to make it unique in that respect. I do hope we see more added features soon!

Is it that bad? I had no idea to be honest, I honestly don't think he really has anything to do with this map anymore. He's also working on a brand new mythological map that was announced in last week's community crunch. So i'm not really sure what's going on with Svartelfheim,hopefully he will still update it, it's such a good map! :(

Though i dont know specifics as premium is obviously superior so its what i play on

I'm going to take a guess and say that he's not involved with this map any more, it's just Kaluga now. Nekatus has been developing a new map too which was teased in the recent Community Cruch so i'd be very surprised! I haven't played Svart in a while, is that the Premium version you're referring to?

I mean, if you're referring to it not having artifact caves and boss fights I get that lol...Looks amazing to me, classic biomes, tonnes of resources, less of a Fantasy world, ticks all the boxes for me in regards to a map design at least!
I guess it all depends on whether or not you like Fantasy biomes and Fantasy creatures as it steers away from all that. I personally just think it need some very challenging artifact caves and a boss and I will put hundreds of hours into playing this map!

I'm only okay with paying for mod maps, but yeah it does scare me, I will never pay for single creature mods (I've seen a few out there on the market) hate the Pyromane pay 2 win DLC creatures and no doubt there will be more coming from Wildcard, I only paid for that because I needed to use it for a video!

Deserts palm trees, and redwoods in Appalachia make no sense. What a wasted opportunity have a map without the same exact biomes as every other map.

Appalachia is eastern America not central
I was referring to the countryside in general in America, I know the map is named Appalachia but there's no desert there if i'm not mistaken? I'm not sure honestly but there is a huge desert region in-game that kinda looks like the Texas desert to me, guessing it wasn't based on Appalachia itself but i'm not American so i'm kinda learning as I go with this map XD
