@amBullseye I actually like Nick a lot 😂 And I think he usually knows his stuff and wears his things?🤔 But I haven’t watched all his videos🤷🏽♂️….I think the main difference is just the intrinsic differences between a big pro level channel (it’s Nick’s livelihood) vs a hobbyist channel like mine where I can do and say whatever the heck I want and don’t particularly have to care about the algorithm 😄
@stolenalias thank you, you’re too kind 🙏🏽 Yeah Nick is great, he has many videos which have helped me at times. I love that he actually uses his items a good amount and is reliable and thorough. And I’ll never have his cool accent 😭😄
Finally, a proper jean review with a majority of the footage being pictures and clips of the damn jeans itself, and not some awkward closeup of a dude's face I give no sh*ts about for 20 minutes. Great work, very refreshing that you chose to go for the washed look, compared to chasing the fades.
This is really helpful feedback- I really appreciate it! I’m trying to go more in this direction with my videos for things like denim, feature the product more….And yeah, I’m loving how they’re looking by just washing them when they need it. 🍻
Love the review david! I almost stopped wearing N&F because they didnt have any fits i liked, i now own 3 pairs of true guys, they are awesome! I love you high up the back pockets sit too, a real nice detail to go along with the classic fit. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks Justyn! Always good to hear from you. Cool that you got 3 of these; I’m definitely considering adding a second pair of these, maybe next year when the Warehouses go out for repair. I should have mentioned back pocket placement; I meant to but forgot. You’re so right about that- the higher placement is very nice, looks good, and keeps things out of the way when you sit down. Glad you enjoyed the review. Have a great week!
I have found that N&F measurements for their core collection change from batch to batch. So the measurements up on their store website will be for the batch sold at the store. If you are shopping elsewhere, confirm measurements with that store before buying. I personally have done this and found a wide degree of variation. It's not because the posted measurements are wrong; they are just for a specific batch.
Fantastic video and channel. I still “need” to get a pair of these. Not that I need another pair, but would love to try Naked and Famous and this fit seems classic.
Yeah they’re great! I highly recommend them! Best to get through Blue Owl, but I think you could get from NnF and just ask them to measure your specific pair before sending. Lots of fun switching it up with a different shade of indigo.
as a bigger guy i appreciate the true guy fit so much! i wanted to try a wider pair more relaxed pair so i tried a pair of the strong guys but they were wayyy too wide for me so i had to return them, but the true guys fit great and are super comfortable.
This is really good to hear! Glad they are working for you. Nothing like finding the perfect jean to wear through life….And this comment is great cuz it helps others who are wondering about fit and scroll the comments 🙌🏽
I think this is my favorite fade review yet. The color looks like a vintage wrangler, but they don’t look funky. It’s the quintessential American Jean.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it! And you said it so well, it is very Wrangler-ish….in my initial review of this jean I mentioned they’re sort of like what Woody the cowboy wears on Toy Story 😄
I've been thinking about getting this exact pair and fit as my first N&F purchase. I love the brand along with Tate & Yoko and Wonder Looper, but haven't bought anything yet. It's amazing how different they look in different lighting.
Nice! You should! I’ve tried other brands in that tier (their Unbranded line, Bravestar etc), and the NnF True Guy is where it’s at, much better than the other patterns in that price tier! If possible get through Blue Owl for more accurate measurements.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Yeah, that's huge that Blue Owl remeasures. Good for comparing against other brands you own if they have those too. I only have Shockoe denim so far because they're local to me and do free repairs. I'm hoping N&F will carry the success of true guy over to Unbranded.
Thanks! Always good to hear from you….And I love how you’ve incorporated denim (specifically Oni SD) into your conglomerate of Ivyish style. I think lighter denim like that works well for that. There was some Blackhorse denim that looked good for that too.
fantastic pair, i’m still trying to navigate the value of a pair of denim like this. It seems like it took so much work to get to such a beautiful piece, but now I wonder how much longer it will last given all the wear and tear it’s been on.
This point you're making is so on point. I need to do a video about this. I've recently realized the value of pre-faded denim, in that it can be enjoyed with that look when in new condition, whereas with raw denim you only get to enjoy the faded look when it's falling apart....With this pair I have, they have tons of life left in them, so I'm happy with them, but with many other pairs it is not the case. I definitely think poly thread and thicker denim material are a must with raw denim. Maybe even lighter starting color is a must.
don't worry - you won't mess up fade potential if you're not going for high contrast fades. Unless you're washing your jeans like every 2 wears, the fades will have depth....just make sure you wear them like 10-15 times between washes once they're shrunk, and then you'll be good
As much as I can appreciate the cotton thread on repro-s, the construction with a poly/cotton thread is simply superior. Even if you are stickling for details it's nearly impossible to tell the difference visually between the two. And why would I be watching this if I weren't being the stickler for details? Nicely done on the wear and the review. I smile every time you mention Woody 'cause you remind me so much of him.
Denim purists don’t realize that the first denim jeans were sewn without the help of a serger or overlock sewing machine because they weren’t invented yet. So if they are going to nitpick about poly/cotton thread…
Always love hearing from you sir! You’ve won me over for poly thread, and this review finalized it for me. I’m still very into repro denim rn because of the historical replication aspect, but my staple jeans might have to be poly thread. Repairs are just so annoying when they happen too often…..And hahahaha Woody it is 😄🤠
I should do a video on Japanese vs North American raw denim. This question of yours is fantastic. Generally, the Japanese made denim I've had (Tanuki, Oni etc) has more artistic soul to it, while North American denim seems to be more utilitarian and workwearish. Makes sense, since denim was a workwear staple made famous by North American tradesmen/women....From far away it all looks the same, but up close, the Japanese denim has the nuances of a delicacy, whereas North American denim usually is the same up close as far away - simple and tough - what you see is what you get....Obviously there are brands that will break the mould (Stevenson Overall etc). NONE of this can truly be generalized; but there are trends for sure. The argument could be made that NnF doesn't fit any category cuz they experiment with so many wild and crazy things. All that said, I don't find most of these brands to be any more durable or wearable than others. And the quality is pretty comparable across the board once you get past $150. Usually, what you're paying for is the art of it all, not durability or better stitching etc. IMHO from all the pairs I've had.
I don't think they're US made, are they? Anyways, I have looked into them; their stuff is SO stunning! Lauren really has an astounding eye for design. RRL outerwear and shirting is mesmerizing as well.....Which of their jeans do you recommend?
@@thevintagefuture6567 No No they are US made for the most part (says it on the label cant miss it) and not only that they are using Denim specially made for them (due to being a huge Brand with leverage) either from the US or Japan.
These are sanforized, so they're supposed to not shrink. Really, if you get the sizing right with a correct sizing chart, and then just wash cold and air dry or tumble dry low, they shouldn't shrink and the volume would be great.
This is the best Heritage menswear channel. Nick at Stridewise is close but his format doesn’t allow him to go into extreme detail like you.
Nick sucks. He doesn't know his stuff even if he lives from it.

I actually bought the exact same pair after I saw your first video about them. Great pair of denim!
Nice!! Glad you’re enjoying them. They really are super cool, something different.
The driving chat spliced with other footage/images is an excellent format -- interesting vid thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of great photo content, so my usual drive-n-talk seemed like it wouldn’t be optimal. Also, I love your handle 😄

Color look excellent! Especially with those benzine inguiner

The tried and true denim is awesome in this cut as well. It's also natural indigo, but has a cool short slub texture
@@AdamNlifeform23 good call, I'll check those out
Yeah that would rock if they sold a True Guy sorta fit through their Unbranded line!
the fades look great!
Thanks!
Good review. The back of the leg fades around 5:50 seem to spell out KIND.
hahaha I didn't notice that - good eye!

I have a pair of Samurai jeans, and it's not my inner the fly tab rubs. But, let's just say i wish it was.
😂dude I had that on a past pair of jeans. That’s brutal hahaha….Also, Samurai sounds awesome, been wanting to try them.
25 washes in 9 months, wow!

did you lose alot of indigo when hot washing and drying?
I believe I did! Especially the drying (which also creates some marbling)
how would you compare the quality / make / construction to japanese (Oni, SDA, Ironheart …) made denim?

What would you suggest for the shrinking process so that you were left with more volume?
These are sanforized, so they're supposed to not shrink. Really, if you get the sizing right with a correct sizing chart, and then just wash cold and air dry or tumble dry low, they shouldn't shrink and the volume would be great.
Would these work well around cowboy boots??
Yes! I wear them over my engineer boots frequently 👍🏽 Very similar to Wranglers
Why were the original measurements faulty? It was not teh same as the website? you could just return them?
I couldn't return them cuz their CS isn't always great and I had them hemmed (which they state on their site automatically makes them unreturnable)
