    This song was actually written by Ewan McColl who was Kirsty McColl father. Kirsty was the female vocalist on Fairytale of New York. Ewan was a very famous English folk singer in the 60’s. He also wrote “The first time ever I saw your face”, well worth checking out.

    Grew up listening to the Dubliners version but preferred this version, now I think they're both great

    The song is written about Salford Manchester, Ewan the writer of the song was brought up in that area .
