Although the thought was good (I've been known to recommend going back to the beginning of Babymetal), I think you dropped the ball. It is true that "Doki Doki Morning" was their first release (October 22, 2011), but you are reacting to a performance of that song that was done on March 2, 2014. If you really wanted to pursue the "evolution" of Babymetal, you should have taken in the MV of this song ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) that was released on RUclips November 8, 2012 - you still can, and I would recommend you do so. And then there's this delightful little performance done on August 28, 2011 ( ruclips.net/video/V0dOATO3CaM/видео.html ) "A" for effort, "C-" for mission accomplishment.
The amount of originality really is staggering. Imagine the dedication and sheer amount of time that must have gone into rehearsing the dance moves, the singing, writing and performing the music, and of course designing costumes and sets. And how many artists could sing as well as Su while performing those moves? This is what real talent looks like.

This live version is nice to get the Kami Band sound but I highly recommend you to watch the official MV, the girls looking even more younger are ridiculously kawaii. From one of my favourite concerts. You can tell just how hard they are working here. The song is beautiful, establishing the team’s mastery of transitions, genre mixing and juxtapositions. But the choreography doesn’t get praised enough. It is so very hard to make a dance both child like and whimsical, but also incredibly polished and professional. Just watch any dance covers of their early songs. It’s not even close. BABYMETAL’s moves, lines, speed, and attention to detail (like facial expressions, hand and foot placement) are all done with authority, no hesitation, and in perfect sync with the band. Outstanding stuff! And when you add in Su’s vocals and breath control, plus all three’s elite level stamina, well I don’t think what they did can be replicated

The song was recorded and released in 2010 on the Sakura Gakuin album "Nendo: Message" later released as a BABYMETAL single in 2011. This live performance was from Budokan 2014 so they were already way into their career. They are even younger in the official video which you can find on their channel,this is a few years down the line and they have the kami band,yes they played with the baby bones miming the instruments at first well they were just a bunch of school kids doing a project. Flugelhorn and others can correct me. This is from the second night of their Budokan performances in March 2014. You can tell it’s the second night as there are railings added to the stage as Yuimetal fell off the night before. I believe Su-Metal graduated from SG (9th grade in US) in March of 2013. Therefore, if I’m correct, Yuimetal and Moametal were still in SG and just graduated 8th grade. Su-Metal would have just graduated 10th grade. Crazy young to perform at the Budokan. Actually, record setting at the time.

Ok, so yes their first song, but not their first performance of it. Let's see if we can take you back closer to the beginnings of Babymetal. This video is remastered by Andy Rethemeir (an Austrian musician and massive Babymetal fan), where he fuses clips of rehearsals, the studio recording sessions, audition performance of Yui and Moa, AND, what I think might be the first recorded live performance of Babymetal doing Doki Doki Morning. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I feel this was still in the Sakura Gakuin days, maybe even when they were performing there as The Heavy Music Club (Please don't take this as gospel, as I am not certain and will certainly be corrected here if I am wrong haha). I think it might have been this performance, based on the crowd reaction, that they really realized that Babymetal was connecting with the audience on a level that was rare, and that there was legs in this concept. The studio MV was their first release on the Sakura Gakuin album. Su was 13yo, Yui and Moa were 11yo on the MV. Also their first public performance was in a Sakura Gakuin revue. They had to swap and trade to come up with matching costumes. Also they taught the dancers the dance steps. Suggestion for next; official studio MV, "Headbanger". Su is 14, Yui and Moa 12! Plus there is commentary video available. Oh, the MV explains the neck collar!! The Kami band debuted at the Legend of 1997 replacing the "Babybones" which is also when they became independent group/band from Sakura Gakuin.
Doki doki is an onomatopoeia of a fast-beating heart. I believe the song is about waking up late and having to get ready in a hurry. It was first released on a Sakura Gakuin album. I believe the next single of theirs was when Babymetal and Kiba of Akiba covered each other's song. Kiba of Akiba played "Iine!" and Babymetal covered "Kimi to Anime Ga Mitai." I have no clue how available that is on RUclips, though. It's not one that I'm terribly familiar with. You probably know this, but the American release of Super Mario Bros. 2 on NES was originally a game called "Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic" that was reskinned with Mario characters.
If you do watch line! next as I've seen suggested, please make sure you watch the official MV for just this one. While it is superior live, just like the rest of their stuff, for a first-time reaction you can't skip the MV, and it won't have the same impact if you hear the song live first. 😁

You can also checkout the MV of iine. If you look at this song as part of a journey, it would seem less confusing.... I read somewhere that Kobametal the creator of Babymetal, wanted the girls to have a more exploratory experience into metal, so that's why their early songs like iine, Doki Doki, and Gimme Chocolate has such a stronger Jpop feel, since that's what they were more used to and comfortable with... But if you listen to their songs as they progress, it becomes less and less poppy and have a stronger metal/rock music element, because the girls themselves are getting more comforable with the metal genre and it's different aspects. Live Band Special at SHIBUYA-AX on April 2012. The Kami Band were first introduced in October 2012 at 'Legend I' with a two song encore of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' and 'Ijime Dame Zettai'. There were a few late "Babybones" appearances near the end of 2013 and in 2014, such as 'LIVE IN SINGAPORE' (their first solo show overseas), some TV appearances, and their "Two Man Show" with ChthoniC in Taiwan. Folks are often surprised how long the Babybones and Kami Band overlapped. The two Budokan concerts in March 2014 were all Kami Band.

Just to reiterate, if the band are in skeleton suits the instrumentals are on backing track - the Kami Band was always live, they just weren't always there as they were being phased in bit by bit for about 18 months before they became the full time support for all live shows (the Budokan Red Night and Black Night being the first two shows where they played the entirety). 'Iine' (that is iine, not Line) was their second single release, then 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' and I can't remember if 'Uki Uki Midnight' or 'Headbanger' was next or where their cover song 'Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai' fitted in (that was a collaboration with the original artists Kiba of Akiba who covered 'Doki Doki Morning' and both were released on a joint EP - maybe with IDZ?). Whatever is next I'm really enjoying your reactions and watching their evolution with you.

That's a really good question! I haven't reacted to Karate, so the only memory I have from it pushed me away from BabyMetal when I heard it years ago, so I probably (as of right now, anyway) replace Karate with Road of Resistance. He's a drummer like me so the insane drumming in that would definitely hook him in I'd imagine! Thanks for the great question!

Goood Raction! This song makes me a little sad. I wonder if they can't write songs with such fresh content now. Girls grow up so fast. It happens so fast. From the point of view of the adults who watch over them, it's almost the speed of light. But now that they are adults, time will start to flow more leisurely. I'm going to have to answer all your questions from my pc later, but I'm glad to see you reacting to this song! Edit: Ok, let's go. This song was indeed Babymetal's first song released in 2011 (it was released as a single but was originally part of Sakura Gakuin's first annual studio album). The song was recorded back in October 2010, so Yui and Moa were 11, and Su was 12. The Budokan shows were in March 2014, and the Kami band became their full backing band pretty much after the Legend 1997 show in December 2013 and replaced the Baby Bones, so yes, no more full backing tracks for the music needed =). This song was the start of Babymetal, and yes, I agree, it is more on the poppy side, but it is absolutely kawaii :D. The mv for the song was produced on a shoestring budget, with the girls borrowing clothes from other SG members and even one of the teachers. If you get the chance, watch the official mv, the girls were so proud of being able to teach the baby bones the choreography for the ending =) The song is about getting up in the morning, ready for the day/school, and being excited (Doki Doki is like a pounding heartbeat). Although the thought was good (I've been known to recommend going back to the beginning of Babymetal), I think you dropped the ball. It is true that "Doki Doki Morning" was their first release (October 22, 2011), but you are reacting to a performance of that song that was done on March 2, 2014. If you really wanted to pursue the "evolution" of Babymetal, you should have taken in the MV of this song ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) that was released on RUclips November 8, 2012 - you still can, and I would recommend you do so. And then there's this delightful little performance done on August 28, 2011 ( ruclips.net/video/V0dOATO3CaM/видео.html )

The amount of originality really is staggering. Imagine the dedication and sheer amount of time that must have gone into rehearsing the dance moves, the singing, writing and performing the music, and of course designing costumes and sets. And how many artists could sing as well as Su while performing those moves? This is what real talent looks like.

From one of my favourite concerts. You can tell just how hard they are working here. The song is beautiful, establishing the team’s mastery of transitions, genre mixing and juxtapositions. But the choreography doesn’t get praised enough. It is so very hard to make a dance both child like and whimsical, but also incredibly polished and professional. Just watch any dance covers of their early songs. It’s not even close. BABYMETAL’s moves, lines, speed, and attention to detail (like facial expressions, hand and foot placement) are all done with authority, no hesitation, and in perfect sync with the band. Outstanding stuff! And when you add in Su’s vocals and breath control, plus all three’s elite level stamina, well I don’t think what they did can be replicated

The song was recorded and released in 2010 on the Sakura Gakuin album "Nendo: Message" later released as a BABYMETAL single in 2011. This live performance was from Budokan 2014 so they were already way into their career. They are even younger in the official video which you can find on their channel,this is a few years down the line and they have the kami band,yes they played with the baby bones miming the instruments at first well they were just a bunch of school kids doing a project.

Flugelhorn and others can correct me. This is from the second night of their Budokan performances in March 2014. You can tell it’s the second night as there are railings added to the stage as Yuimetal fell off the night before. I believe Su-Metal graduated from SG (9th grade in US) in March of 2013. Therefore, if I’m correct, Yuimetal and Moametal were still in SG and just graduated 8th grade. Su-Metal would have just graduated 10th grade. Crazy young to perform at the Budokan. Actually, record setting at the time.
That is correct, Red Night was the first show on March 1st, then Black Night on March 2nd, 2014.

BABYMETAL is singing about a school girl who overslept in the morning and got up quickly and dressed in haste asking repeatedly what time it was now. "Doki Doki" signifies sound of fast heartbeat. And the girl also got excited looking forward to what was going to happen today at her school and in her future as well.
Last year 2021, Su and Moa are matured and no longer school girls, but they revived this song in shows at Budokan (the same legendary arena in your video) mimicking their own childhood voices and lovable moves. Every audience at the venue became happy. I was there ! ヽ(^o^)丿

The song has a "modern heaviness" sound in its music, with dark, atmospheric instrumentals that reverse into a catchier and brighter melody with lyrics such as "Rin rin rin! Kikuchi noted how the tone of the song was directly opposite to Japanese kei-on music (light music); as a result, the band formed under the label Jūonbu (heavy music club) to signify the contrast. Ok, so yes their first song, but not their first performance of it. Let's see if we can take you back closer to the beginnings of Babymetal. This video is remastered by Andy Rethemeir (an Austrian musician and massive Babymetal fan), where he fuses clips of rehearsals, the studio recording sessions, audition performance of Yui and Moa, AND, what I think might be the first recorded live performance of Babymetal doing Doki Doki Morning. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I feel this was still in the Sakura Gakuin days, maybe even when they were performing there as The Heavy Music Club (Please don't take this as gospel, as I am not certain and will certainly be corrected here if I am wrong haha).
I think it might have been this performance, based on the crowd reaction, that they really realized that Babymetal was connecting with the audience on a level that was rare, and that there was legs in this concept. Enjoy, as this video is gold.

The studio MV was their first release on the Sakura Gakuin album. Su was 13yo, Yui and Moa were 11yo on the MV. Also their first public performance was in a Sakura Gakuin revue. They had to swap and trade to come up with matching costumes. Also they taught the dancers the dance steps.
Suggestion for next; official studio MV, "Headbanger". Su is 14, Yui and Moa 12! Plus there is commentary video available. Oh, the MV explains the neck collar!!

Doki doki is an onomatopoeia of a fast-beating heart. I believe the song is about waking up late and having to get ready in a hurry. It was first released on a Sakura Gakuin album. I believe the next single of theirs was when Babymetal and Kiba of Akiba covered each other's song. Kiba of Akiba played "Iine!" and Babymetal covered "Kimi to Anime Ga Mitai." I have no clue how available that is on RUclips, though. It's not one that I'm terribly familiar with.

You can also checkout the MV of iine. If you look at this song as part of a journey, it would seem less confusing.... I read somewhere that Kobametal the creator of Babymetal, wanted the girls to have a more exploratory experience into metal, so that's why their early songs like iine, Doki Doki, and Gimme Chocolate has such a stronger Jpop feel, since that's what they were more used to and comfortable with... But if you listen to their songs as they progress, it becomes less and less poppy and have a stronger metal/rock music element, because the girls themselves are getting more comforable with the metal genre and it's different aspects. The first Babybones appearance was at the 2nd Idol Yokocho Festival! Live Band Special at SHIBUYA-AX on April 2012.
The Kami Band were first introduced in October 2012 at 'Legend I' with a two song encore of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' and 'Ijime Dame Zettai'.
There were a few late "Babybones" appearances near the end of 2013 and in 2014, such as 'LIVE IN SINGAPORE' (their first solo show overseas), some TV appearances, and their "Two Man Show" with ChthoniC in Taiwan.
Folks are often surprised how long the Babybones and Kami Band overlapped.
The two Budokan concerts in March 2014 were all Kami Band.

Just to reiterate, if the band are in skeleton suits the instrumentals are on backing track - the Kami Band was always live, they just weren't always there as they were being phased in bit by bit for about 18 months before they became the full time support for all live shows (the Budokan Red Night and Black Night being the first two shows where they played the entirety).
'Iine' (that is iine, not Line) was their second single release, then 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' and I can't remember if 'Uki Uki Midnight' or 'Headbanger' was next or where their cover song 'Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai' fitted in (that was a collaboration with the original artists Kiba of Akiba who covered 'Doki Doki Morning' and both were released on a joint EP - maybe with IDZ?).

Will you go something more metal to hook him in right away or shock him with a more Kawaii song then come with the metal I would go with three songs Karate(music video) then Megitsune(live or mv) then Ijime Dame Zettai(live at sonisphere 2014) If he's not a BabyMetal fan after that... find a new friend
That's a really good question! I haven't reacted to Karate, so the only memory I have from it pushed me away from BabyMetal when I heard it years ago, so I probably (as of right now, anyway) replace Karate with Road of Resistance. He's a drummer like me so the insane drumming in that would definitely hook him in I'd imagine! Thanks for the great question!

Goood Raction! This song makes me a little sad. I wonder if they can't write songs with such fresh content now. Girls grow up so fast. It happens so fast. From the point of view of the adults who watch over them, it's almost the speed of light. But now that they are adults, time will start to flow more leisurely. I am very grateful to Su and Moa for continuing BABYMETAL as usual.
I'm looking forward to continuing this journey of mine and then seeing where BabyMetal evolves to! Thanks!

The first is I think the very first BM live performance as a part of Sakura Gakuin show.
The second is a music video, but uses better live footage, than any actual live version of this song from this period.
Although later live performanes of these early songs from around 2015 are the best.

Edit: Ok, let's go. This song was indeed Babymetal's first song released in 2011 (it was released as a single but was originally part of Sakura Gakuin's first annual studio album). The song was recorded back in October 2010, so Yui and Moa were 11, and Su was 12. The Budokan shows were in March 2014, and the Kami band became their full backing band pretty much after the Legend 1997 show in December 2013 and replaced the Baby Bones, so yes, no more full backing tracks for the music needed =).
This song was the start of Babymetal, and yes, I agree, it is more on the poppy side, but it is absolutely kawaii :D. The mv for the song was produced on a shoestring budget, with the girls borrowing clothes from other SG members and even one of the teachers. If you get the chance, watch the official mv, the girls were so proud of being able to teach the baby bones the choreography for the ending =) The song is about getting up in the morning, ready for the day/school, and being excited (Doki Doki is like a pounding heartbeat).
