We Found a Munitions Cave that Supplied the Ho Chi Minh Trail during SECRET WAR | Back Roads E12
A few kilometres inside of Laos from the Vietnam border we were able to find the hill that housed massive anti aircraft guns that protected the cave beneath. The massive labyrinth of a cave was used to store food, weapons, ammunition and supplied the Viet Cong as they moved south down the Ho Chi Minh trail through Laos towards southern Vietnam.

Todd, Neenee and Mena, you all are meeting so many new Hmong friends as you travel. Meaning, in ten years you will have so many new friends (more friends than you can imagine). Life is so fun.
Wed be Goners! hahahahah Pure Gold!
That was an awesome tour 👌
That cave was huge . Thank you for sharing and taking your time look around. 👍👍👍👍👍
Well another Gem of an episode mate. Really love my Monday nights in the fart tub with the big girl and double episodes of Now in Lao. Makes the three days in the hole well worth it. The contrasts in Lao have no peer mate and that cave is like a certain place I visit every weekend.. Top notch road tripping.
Cheers mate 🍻
after seeing that cave...reminded me of flying personnel in out of Lima sites 1970
Hi Todd,,very beautiful country! That cave was mindblowing. Very interesting rock formations. No way could I do that trek. One suggestion I have for you,,my brother ,you might want to invest in a pair of good adjustable carbon fiber trekking poles. They take a major load off sore knees,,especially on the steeps like you had,,longer for downhill slows the slipping and falling and shorten them for uphill. They really do help. I've used them for 25 years,,back when I still did backpacking trips. Lol when you were bushwacking,,I could picture a damn flaring cobra head popping up 😳😱🥺. Our Mina has soo much fun. ,, skipping along to her newest bounce castle. Your point about the grunts that moved stuff along the trail had to have been dead on. Omg the sheer size of some of the loads they hauled. 200 plus lbs! I've seen quite a few pictures and documentaries on the war. Ken Burns Vietnam War is a great one. Very interesting buddy. Thank you so much! Take care Todd and Neenee and Mina ❤ Ttyl,,,Marlon
Stalactite Todd, tights come down! 😊
Yeah, that's the best way to remember.. dunno why I always stuff that up 😝 Cheers
That cave is mental mate........... 10 years married in Laos with visits starting 2001 and I have been in so many caves across Asia.......... This blew me away........... I know when your there filming that its like righto enough is enough and your super tiered but this was crazy interesting......... should get a beer one day.
Those young lads bound thru that cave in their flip flops like it's nothing. Awesome adventure in there including the little bat. As you said most pdople will never get the chan e to go there. Thanks Todd. Bushyboy Oz.
No worries mate.. cheers 👍
Wow - what a cave - totally amazing
👍🙂👍
Hi Todd. I'm really enjoying seeing you, Neenee and Mina showing us around outback Lao. The troopy certainly has enabled you to do your good work in very remote regions.
They probably used simple rope’s and pulleys on sleds to drag supplies up to the caves
Excellent cave! You're lucky to be able to see that.
Wow, Todd and the gang, hat an amazing vlog! I was captivated and I really did not notice how long the whole thing was, it just flew past. It is not surprising that the roads up there get so damaged with the large number of huge trucks and tankers continuously pounding along them up there at the border. The boys with the spinning tops certainly had good eyes and precision when knocking their opponents tops out of the ring. Could you imagine Western or even city boys of that age getting so much pleasure from such a simple game? Those caves were absolutely incredible with all the different rock formations, so beautiful. To think that during the war it would have been a hive of activity especially during the night when munitions and supplies would have been moved to other locations along the Ho Chi Minh trail. You are right when you say that this cave complex and probably many others in that area would, even if discovered by bombers, be absolutely impenetrable. You are an intrepid explorer Todd and go places I would never have dreamed about. What an interesting guy Mr. Lee is. Very clever. I love the way that he gave up what was clearly a promising career in Vientiane to return home to look after his parents. SE Asian family life and kinship is so different from modern day Western family life. Thank you so much again, for taking us with you on your travels. God bless you all always. 😀❤🙏
hi Todd, I would have loved to see the big gun on top of the mountain. I guess that would be an adventure for next time.
Would be a great adventure, but the property owner said there was no way up there now.
The big knife would of been handy here ,for you ( lol).Very impressive cave mate. What was the temperature like in there ? I Was thinking of the human chain scenario as well,to get anything of weight and bulk,in to the cave. Cheers....Kenno
Toured a very similar cave in northern vietnam
Động Ngườm Ngao cave, north east corner of vietnam near ban gioc waterfalls, very impressive, I'll note this spot down in my itinerary for my upcoming tour of laos 👌
The cave tour was incredible todd, you done very well mate, absolutely amazing, thanks for taking us there 👣👍, one could go back in time when the war was on😮, these people are as tough as nails💪. The gun on top of the hill, just pure grit and determination to get it up there. Grouse vlog mate👍. The kids were very dubious, obviously don't see alot of tourists.
Excellent vlog the tunnel under the mountain was extremely unbelievable. Would take many personal to store move and maintain. Military supplies. Very beautiful country side. Stay safe healthy and warm Todd Neenee and little Mina.❤❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Fascinating vid 👍👍🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Now that's what I call a cave 😮
The cave was amazing, never seen anything like it. Thanks
Several interesting places along the HCM trail that I found interesting. The cave was by far an amazing place of twists and turns. The stalagmites were much different than I thought they would be because when you tapped them, they sounded like glass. Thanks for the history and the adventure in Back Roads E 12 and as always, I thank you for the lovely black and white photos. Thanks, Todd.
Good morning Todd and Nee nee. Have a Great day Watching your video right now.
You are right. What an interesting man Mr Lee. Amazing to meet people as talented as him.
Great real life video. Keep it up
🤗🙏🏼!
COOL video, enjoyed it. Thank you for doing all that climbing, and bringing us some interesting footages.
Take care.
Thank you for always riding along with us Téo 👍
Xin chao! What a cool cave. Beautiful Vietnamese women too probably your girlfriend or wife and a cute little girl. First time I seen your channel. Thanks for sharing the adventure!
@@jerrydonquixote5927 My Lao wife and daughter. Welcome to the channel 👋 This video is part of a series. If you're interested in it, you'll find the entire series under playlists on my channel page 😉👍
@NowinLao cool cool thank you and thanks again for showing us, you have a beautiful family! I will watch some more videos. I have to clear myself sometimes of my spiritual journey and get off of those videos and learning for a while and just watch things to enjoy.
Another excellent vid Todd
I love seeing people who teach themselves from youtube etc, that guy is a legend
Hello my friend. Thanks for taking us through that cave. That was incredible, best cave system I have seen. What a special country and people's. You have one amazing channel Todd. Hi Mina and Neenee. Cheers brother. 3:30 am and can't sleep, might as well watch @NowinLao. ♥️🇨🇦♥️
Thank you Frank. Always great to hear from you brother.. now get some sleep! 😉👍
Brilliant video Todd, thanks for taking one for us lesser mortals mate. That cave was tougher than any Gym workout, wouldn't do for me, I'd never even get to the entrance. Such amazing and friendly people, and nothing's too much trouble or effort for them.
Stalagtites and Stalagmites, Easy to remember.......... Tites come dowm - Mites grow up.
As always... Thanks for sharing, Phil (UK)
Great workout yes! So many twists and turns, It's got me beat how that kid knew where he was going. Incredible cave! Cheers mate
The Donovan music was excellent todd , going back in time of the war. Mr lee was a very interesting dude.
Hi Todd. Know that one well L is a 2XL have many T shirts LOL
Very interesting, thank you
Another great video! Thanks for taking us down that cave because i sure wouldnt go down there. LOL....damn claustrophobia.
Great content, part of the world few people get to see, with the added bonus of some history thrown in.
Now That's a Fortification !!!! Quite a Stunning cave ...Thanks
Yeah, it's gonna take a lot to beat that cave.. Incredible!
Cheers
when you went up on what you thought was the path, all I could think of is where's the damn land mine... and then in the cave holy cripes.... I've been in 2 different caves one in New Mexico - Carlsbad Cavern, and then Ruby Falls in Tennessee . Pretty darn freaky the one you were in... Was neat to see in the video though.
Great video 👍🙂
Good outing to the cave. Take a skid lid next time hey. Loved the stills of the kids with spinning tops. Reminded me of the some of the other low tech games of my childhood.
watch out for bugs and critters
Content - Format - Editing 100% , Nailed it Todd, very informative and things we do not learn at school in the west (Australia),,, that cave was so well hidden and massive,,,, Thankyou for showing us that can not be there ,, take care from the Gong, lol.
From the Gong! Good onya mate.. thanks for the kind words Mark, much appreciated mate 👍
Superb episode Todd. That cave trip was spectacular, you certainly couldn’t have done it without the guides!
Thank you beautiful family
Very well put together video Todd classic 👍
Cheers mate 🍻
Stay awesome 👌 my friend
Ssshit you’re very brave going into that’s cave Todd ! 👍imagine battery going flat! L spooky that’s alien 👾! 👍👍
Mate, each vlog just gets better and better. I genuinely constantly look forward to the next one after I’ve watched the current.
That was one hell of a cave
Class as always
Thanks!
Thank you mate! Much appreciated, cheers
A masterpiece ! Todd, the video was so engaging. And to go down in those caves; you are braver person than I am. So much going on this video. The people so kind and humble.
Hope you all are doing well. Sending you much love from Richmond, Va. 🙏🙏 Jim and Harriet
That is one of most amazing caves I’ve seen.
Was certainly the best I have ever explored here Bob. I wish I had more time to explore it further
As always Thank You for sharing!!! We always enjoy your videos and keep learning a lot from the past. You aer very inspiring for future travels.
Thanks Richard.. really nice to hear that. Cheers
Do the Leo people talk about the Vietnam war or more about the war in Lao. I’m curious to see if they’ve just moved on from it. As an American I can tell you people my age 60 and older it’s still in our thoughts.
Always love your taste in music, and awesome video.
That was great Todd - Love your work
Thanks Harry
So many freaking trucks
Great videos. I wouldve loved if you shared the prices you pay for things like the jacket you bought or the place you rented for the night. Grtz
The price of the guest house was in the previous video 👌😉
West Africa countries are good at football
Do those sunken sports fields fill with water in the wet season ? They look like big empty dams.
You'd imagine so hey! I've never seen one in the wet season to confirm though. I never seen any drainage in there 🤔
Well that's a relief I can check that off my bucket list😂 any other really tight fitting spaces you going to go through that are claustrophobic so I can check that off too😂
Haha good to see you doing things Reno you normally wouldn't 😆👍
@@NowinLao😂😂
Excellent Todd!! Question, in the late 90s through 2005 when I left Udon Thani Thailand, the UN UXO teams were still everywhere in Laos. Are they done now? I remember seeing all those blue plate Land Cruisers when I was there. Glad you have one. I'm totally jealous and doubt I will have one when I retire in 2029 to Udon.
Can't recall seeing UN vehicles here of late, but there's still a lot of MAG UXO teams that use the LC Troop carriers 👌 The blue plate means government vehicle. Great for not getting stopped at check points 😉 Have to get it changed soon though 😔
@@NowinLao MAG. That’s right. Not UN. Thanks for reminding me
Stalactites must be tight to hold onto the ceiling and stalagmites might grow up from the floor to meet the stalactites.
After 5 minutes of entering the cave. I was concerned you guys might get lost in it! Was this cave one way in, one way out?
That was the only way in, yes
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wapw so many 22 wheel robbery truck come to take :Laos's most valuable property
"You look like a garden gnome". Thanks Todd, I shot beer out my nose at that one.
Haha that's always a good feeling 😆
If that cave was in most other countries, it would be commercially operated.
Hi Todd, I hope you're all doing well?
Quick question, I know you get money if people watch adverts. Is it by the number of adverts or the length of the adverts?
I only ask as I had an advert that lasted over thirteen minutes whilst watching this video.
Cheers
Damn that's a long one! Revenue is raised by ads viewed. Very little if the ad is skipped after the 5 second timer, and most ads need to be watched for 30secs to count for anything. The only time I'd sit through a long ad is if I've started one of my series playlists and walked out the door for the day.. let it play through the whole playlist ads and all hint hint 😆🤣
Nah, I wouldn't be hanging round for a long ad like that. I really do appreciate a short ad here or there though. Thanks 😉
P.S just to give you an idea how hard it is.. 1000 ads viewed (that's not skipping) earns between $6-$7 🫤
@@NowinLao I'm happy to have videos that last two minutes as I know it helps you out . But thirteen was a bit too long.
Keep up with the great videos.
Hopefully I'll be there early next year.
I'd be really surprised if the locals don't suffer from the old quarry/mining lung diseases.
Not a munitions cave, more like a journey to the center of the earth. It would take an army of men to pass along small arms, forget large stuff.
An olympic sized football field....hahahaha, made me laugh that one, thats what a yank would say
When a war breaks out terms such as war crimes limited war. Should go out of the window.
Todd are you looking for another coronavirus 😂😂😂😂
I think I was close to finding it 😆
Tites come down, while mites go up
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalactite#
I think you got it the wrong way around Todd. I had to look it up because I wasn't sure 😊
Great film and great music as usual.
