This is the way of life for many in Hawaii. Living and appreciating the bounty of the land and sea. I am from the island of Molokai and food from land and sea is how we live. Kudos for showing some of the aspects of our lifestyle. Mahalo and Aloha.
This was beautiful! as a native Hawaiian this hits home! meat eater has hit a new level with these episodes! the addition of kimi has brought a whole new audience. im absolutely here for it! keep it going!
Kimi Werner must be preserved at all costs!! Her videos have gotten me through some dark times with her light. Thank you for creating this series with her!
So much culture, curiosity and love culminating with a beautiful collab cookout at the end. I’d love to see ta’apa and to’au served in our restaurants on Maui. Mahalo for sharing, I’m definitely going to try some of these recipes 🤤
Another great one . Love Kimi! the limu and ogo poke are my faves. hopefully Kimi can show us how to make a proper salmon lomi and poi. or even local harvested kimchi wink wink!
The opening statement describes my 1st trip to Hawaii perfectly. It changed my life. This episode is so good and Kimi is so inspiring. I'm planning another trip to Hawaii this Spring and was returning to the Na'pali coast, but, if this garden they walked in is accessible to tourists and in Maui I'd travel there, after I heard the tourist industry has plummeted after the fires and they have areas theyd like us to visit on the island. Does the location where they collected the plants have a name? Thank you for this episode!
We grew up on the Guaivee/strawberry guava. The red ones are ok but the yellow ones are super sweet. Since you made a poi brownie with coconut cream Kimi should have had her try kūlolo
Just have to say I wont shoot trigger fish. All head not much meat and not so tasty when cooked with heat but my goodness the sashimi prep here would change my mind. Just need fresh guava! Well done ladies!
Triggerfish is my favorite fish cooked, but I don’t think I could eat it raw. They have a pretty off putting smell before you cook them, even right out of the water.

Poi is the completely processed taro root. Water is added and it is smooth. Pai'ai is made by stopping before this. So it is thick without added water, sometimes lumpy.
finally a video where it shows where kimi is truly an expert in..and should stay...in the kitchen..and not spearing fish in the body lik an amateur making fish suffer longer and ruining vital meat in the process..
Yea...is that y she speared the grouper throughthe body in previous spear fishing vid with rinella? That not only ruins a huge portion of thr prime filet butalso makes the fish suffer a while lot more..thats expert skills? Go watch key west waterman on bow to spear fish..stone shots through the head stuns the tish occasionally killing fish reducing the suffering AND doesn’t ruin any of the prime filets..takes skill to do that and not just pull the trigger at a huge body target lmao champion...prob in a women’s division or som other caveat ppl fail to mention. Taking no skill body shots psht
Aloha, and wow! Everyone can miss a stone shot, it’s how you follow through. Not even going to respond to the “staying in the kitchen “ part. Either you’re a Neanderthal or you’ve stoned every fish you shot. That is if you’re even a spearfisher.

Kimi and Danielle are my favorites! These two wonderful women represent the epitome of what you can do with wild game. Love them both so much!❤
Meat eater is tapping into a new audience with Kimi on board. The amount of women that are now interested in this channel has gotta be an up root 👏👏👏🤙
Agreed! I'm a new subscriber as I'm a fan of Kimi's.
I see what you did there ‘root’ as in foraging.
Natural organic meat is how I sold my very eco-friendly wife on hunting
Yeah, and women will start watching women's sports too because women are playing. 😆 🤣
Any time any video with Kimi comes on I get so excited. I love what she does for food culture, conservationism and the environment.
ugh...respectful, kind women sharing space for each others curiosities and passions. All towards respect for our island. Love love love!
These two need their own show together. What a duo.

Kimi is carrying this channel right now. Good for her. Give Cal a break. Hawaii forward programming is great. Mahalo, cheers, A hui hou
So glad to see Wild + Whole Sourced back! Season 1 was my favourite of all the shows on this channel beside the original Meateater.
Best collaboration ever! These two need their own show! :)
I agree. Talking of good collaborations I think a Rinella hunt with Gordon Ramsey would be great.
KIMI is such an ICON!
Amazing episode! 2 of the most amazing and beautiful people on Meat Eater, together, hunting and cooking. Cant ask for more
So amazing to spend the day with kimi werner...hiking fishing cooking and eating. Awesome stuff!!!

Kimi and Danielle together? These shows just get better and better! I'm so hungry now!
First time I heard of Kimi was on Pacific Warriors and I always thought she was going to make a huge impact one day. She’s arrived and it’s great.
Danielle has an incredible narrating voice.

Aloha, as a fisherman when I lived in Hawaii, I agree. To’au was always welcome on the end of my line.
Love this. Growing up in hawaii had me eating all this good stuff. I miss it. You guys did well here.
Wow! What a beautiful piece. Kimi is such a badass, and the food looks incredible!
Kimi's got CAKE! :D Love it.

Danielle + Kimi = Fantastic.
Kimi is the most bad ass person on the crew.
Okay, bringing my two favorite shows together; Now add Das boat and my head will explode

Hi kimi
That reel set up on just a rod butt with no rod is one of the weirder things I’ve ever seen on a fishing boat lol
It’s a commercial thing, but as a fisherman, I agree.
@@adamyoung480 even the commercial fishermen I know who use hydraulic bandit reels for grouper and tuna have a piece of thick flexible plastic to provide some flex and keep fish buttoned up. Whatever works though.
@@N2theBlue1 Aloha. I should have clarified. I’ve seen it used in Hawaii.
I thought smashed taro root was called poi? Maybe it has different names.
Poi is the completely processed taro root. Water is added and it is smooth. Pai'ai is made by stopping before this. So it is thick without added water, sometimes lumpy.
@@glennnanod3160 thanks for the clarification!
It is. Kalo is the Hawaiian name for taro which is then processed into poi. Kinda like using a russet potato for mashed.
Calling BS, no ‘mayo carb’
Just don’t ask her to speak up on Maunakea or the Navy poisoning our water at Red Hill. We need real Hawaiians.
How weird is the idea of an “introduced species”? 🤔
Hahaha.
she seems pretty wack tbh, very haole. looks like kimi is over her. only watched cause of kimi
this itch is a 2x then im out
finally a video where it shows where kimi is truly an expert in..and should stay...in the kitchen..and not spearing fish in the body lik an amateur making fish suffer longer and ruining vital meat in the process..
Kimi is a world champion spear fisher. She is about as much of an expert as a person can be.
