      I found this because it recommended to me by RUclips. I also gave it a like. I believe the algorithm for what gets recommended is based on what is similar to what the viewer has been watching. I have been watching a lot of gun channels lately and i think that is the only reason why this video was recommended to me.

    The mounting of the plate is compliant, meaning that part of the impact energy is used in moving the plate like a catches mitt. If you hard mount the plate the rounds will achieve a deeper penetration. Soft mounting increases the ballistic performance of any plate. The effect is significant. Great slow speed photography.

    • @nbtf01
      @nbtf01 4 года назад +13

      Also the plate is at a slight angle so the amount of material the round is having to go through is greater. This is also one of the reasons why a lot of military vehicles have slanted armor.

  • @elongated_musket6353

    It looks like you've leaned the titanium plate. By doing that you're essentially increasing the plate's effective armor, meaning that the round needs to go through more metal before being able to fully penetrate. Also, alot of energy from the projectile is being transferred over onto the not-so-sturdy bench and therefore reducing the bullet's ability to penetrate armor. The angled plate is also the reason why the bullet didnt stabilize and wasnt able to penetrate properly as you said in 9:03, but it could also be because SLAP rounds aren't very well stabilized in general.
    Its not a very good test, but its fun to watch. I would love to see another test being conducted where the plate is angled at something like 45-70 degrees

    • @holliday9416
      @holliday9416 2 года назад +1

      Hi, the angled position actually its the reason becouse the armored vehicles have that design, but would still fair becouse they will be testing the projectiles in a realistic environment, on the other hand im agree whit giving the target a free movement wich disipates part of the energy of the projectile make the test useless. cheers!

It would be even more interesting to take the SLAP projectile and sabot and load it into a 20-50 Anzio (20mm necked down to .50 cal. Possibly 5000 fps?)

(but maybe it´s safer for your crew) Meaning your first bullet could have made it. Like you set it all up with a certain angle tanks are build to make them stronger. Anyway we´re not here to talk about facts but to see holes.

    Cool video and I love the shoot show, next. I know it a tinny thing and maybe it would be unsafe, what do I know but it would be so cool if the target was held firmly in place instead of on a broken bench etc... now I know targets are probably never vertical, and OK, set it at a safe angle but if it is fixed and solid then the results should be consistent, it isn't like you take 10 shots with each bullet :) And yes I get it, especially if the bullets are $1 or more per shot. Thanks for going out and having fun and showing us stuff.

    US aircraft during WW2 had a 1/2" steel slab behind the pilot and in a few other areas. Checking out what the bullets do to 1.75" Titanium further reinforces what huge b**ls those guys had. That said, German pilots had no armour. They relied on simply(?) not getting hit.

    • @CZ350tuner
      @CZ350tuner 2 года назад

      The German pilots also had armoured seat backs..... between 6mm. to 8mm. face hardened rolled homogeneous armour (About equivalent to 1.5 to 2 Inches of Titanium).
      According to WW2 US tests, the M2 Browning HMG could penetrate up to 21mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 100 yards with AP/I & up to 25mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 100 yards with AP.
      On a US Marine Corps field test shooting an M2 HMG at the side of a captured Japanese Type 97 Chi Ha medium tank, at a range of 50 yards, out of the 100 AP bullet hits, 35 cleanly penetrated through the 9mm. RHA side armour of the tank.

    I knew a normal slap round would do it. Just like an armor piercing goes through better than an armor piercing tracer. For testing penetration you should always use the non-tracer option. If I remember right the last test you only used a slap-t and while it went through i figured a normal slap would have gone through better. Anyhow keep up the good work. I am guessing a normal slap will go through a 2" also but that's just my prediction. We will see if I'm right.

    I dont think shot 5 SLAP round went through. The pressure wave blew off a layer of the back side. But it didnt look like there was a hole. The round was lodged in the metal.

    The angle of the titanium makes it more than 1.75” I would imagine ?

    • @hymesinc

      Agreed. Also the fact that its not solidly mounted soaks up some of the impact. Curious of that slap round would have made it through.

    • @NothingXemnas
      @NothingXemnas 4 года назад

      I wouldn't call it "angled" though. The angle is so shallow, it might add just a few hundreds of an inch.

    • @wheats1979
      @wheats1979 4 года назад +1

      NothingXemnas the fact it’s angled and only leant up instead of being solidly mounted all would work against the round ! It needs to be totally verticals and solidly mounted for it to be a fair test ... even a few mm of extra titanium is stronger .

      @@wheats1979 50 degree slope would add 56% to the thickness of the amour 20 degree only adds .6 IE 10mm becomes 10.6mm at 20 degrees . looking at the video I don't think it was more than 20% angle But your point is very well made Sir and most Tanks now use Active
      Armor which which breaks away and takes round with it

    A few degrees of angle makes a huge difference to armour plate as you can see from the 2 slap rounds different pens. As an added bonus there would also be a slight variation in gun powder effect on the round as you can see from the 100 ft/s difference in the round speed.

    • @Trobinsonmedia
      @Trobinsonmedia 2 года назад

      Titanium is generally lighter because you’re able to reduce the thickness of material, while retaining the same strength as stainless steel (if not more so)
