I just want to express that I appreciate your videos. You really demonstrate a certain stability in your homeschooling beliefs and your expectations for your children. As, a viewer, fellow homeschool mom and charlotte mason enthusiast, your videos are very comforting. Thank you ☺.
I love doing CM style exams! We have a little party at the end with grandparents and kids do a bit of recitation and songs. They choose some items to show off too. I'm going to try doing the notebook for exams this time. I sat down to write out the questions today and realized I had to figure out a new system as this is my first Form II student and they are expected to write some of their own stuff! I usually record on the voice app on my phone and then transcribe by typing later on (lots of interesting background noise from younger kids!). I still like that as I can step away if I am needed unexpectedly but feel a need for a change with the older student. We have exams next week so this is very timely help. Thanks!
Heather, I’d also like to say thank you for all the wisdom you’re passing on. It’s inspiring, the peace and grace that seems to abound in the way you run homeschool. We have exams coming up in a couple weeks and i’d like them to go better for everybody. I didn’t quite catch how you scheduled exam questions for the day in the independent time. Are you just giving 15 minutes to listen to a child dictate an answer for the ones that you write their answers down? Also, how many questions do you try to cover per subject during exam week? My question is targeted towards our situation of a form 1 son that struggles to write and a form one daughter that is just learning to write. Thanks so much for all your doing!
Thank you for your kind words. We do a question per book/study. I often will have them draw their answer and then dictate it to me their explanation/narration/response. My form 1 students never do more than 4 questions a day and sometimes only 3 depending on age. It really just depends how much they can handle. I have a friend who does exams for all subjects all in one day per kid. My kids get a bit overwhelmed with that approach so I give them a little bit (varying the subjects) over 3-5 days.

Love the grandparent party. We do something similar with friends at end of year. Best wishes on exam week!
