You need a woodscrew and a washer for it wo work. Rather try to just drill a few holes, assemble it and then drill the rest to avoid inaccuracies.

Trying to Google the screws /nuts. Need to be smooth to allow rotations. What do you call them? Where did you order?
In order for the motion to happen you use a normal tap or wood crew that's small enough and washers in-between the wood and the screwhead
