  • Not everyone receives God’s eternal love. So, how does a person become a part of God’s family? Is everyone called to be adopted? Is God obligated to give His love to everyone? In this lesson, Dr. Sproul discusses the sovereignty of God’s electing love, the recipients of it, and our proper response to it.
This is the 5th in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul on the love of God. See other videos in the series: • Loved by God - R.C. Sp...

I spent 40 years lost, and even celebrating my sin. Every day I still don’t understand why God chose me out of the world. It’s the greatest gift you could ever receive, that no one seems to want. My old worldly friends think I’m a weak, brainwashed, idiot, and none of them will even discuss it with me. I pray that one day, I twill get a phone call from one of them asking me about Christ. Today though, I am much more interested in developing a loving relationship with the Lord and with my self.

      To: Robyn
This is a good approach to take concerning the weighty matters that pertain to God. It demonstrates a seeking soul rather than one being quick to have a made up mindset. I think most of the time in these sort of things, the acceptance of them comes to us more like the dawning of the sun rather than like a light bulb coming on quickly.
And if there is no ‘dawning’ there, we lay it aside until and if He would chose to awaken us.
The Lord bless you, in your pursuit of Him.

Do becareful with meditation. God does say to always have control over our mind. If we meditate, we're allowing demons to have easier access to us. God bless :)

@@loveroftruth8148 I'd suggest that you listen to some Joel Beeke on "Biblical Meditation". There's a world of a difference between worldly satanic meditation vs biblical. With biblical meditation, we take a text and meditate on it, ponder it, in light of God's character and what He reveals to us in His word, how to apply it to our lives properly etc. I pray you get a chance to look at Beeke's sermons on this manner, along with all the wonderful puritan works covering this subject. Biblical meditation is crucial to us adopted children and our walk with our Father. Blessings.

22:39 If the God chooses certain people according to "his good pleasure and will," and later on "the mystery of his will", then that doesn't explain much how God choses. It's an appeal to mystery. We can never know why God chose some and pass over others.

  • @jmrosenthal84

How do people reconcile this with Timothy 2:3-4? I can just as easily interpret all the verses RC’s provided in a way that is consistent that anyone can be saved and not only a preselected few.
He still didn’t explain what criteria God used to predetermine who will be saved. To paraphrase, RC provided the verse that said that God chose people based upon what brought Him joy, or something. That’s avoidance because it leads to the question of why did preselecting those people bring Him joy and not others? Since he didn’t address it, it follows that his view is actually that we’re preselected randomly. If not randomly, then what was the criteria?

    • @itzFresco

First of all, God doesn't have a council, He is God, sufficient in himself. Who are we to question the actions of God. God does all things for His glory and we trust by faith that every decision God makes is Perfect in holiness and righteousness.
You are reasoning yourself out of what the Apostle Paul is attempting to make clear. It is solely by God's Sovereignty. The very idea that any of us could be saved is incredible in itself.

If God is God, why did he let Satan come into the Garden? I’ll tell you: because God would be an unfair God if he gave us free choice, but then no choices what choice did they have? God spoke to them, and if they didn’t hear anything else but God, what’s the point of free choice? That’s why he let the serpent in God says something, the serpent says something else, and they believe the serpent and choose to disobey God because God is Holy, they had to separate from God in sin and ever since there’s been a war and the war one day will end when every single person on the planet hears about Jesus has the same opportunity as Adam and Eve.

Such a good teacher. Too bad he was so wrong about grace and love. 15:18 How is responding to receive a free gift make that response a 'work' or make it any less glorifying to God?

    • @itzFresco
      @itzFresco 4 года назад +6

Because then you can say "God owes me Grace because 'I accepted it.'"

@@ironlion805 Interesting enough, I started my Christian faith in a Liberal Church. You'd be surprised how puffed up they all are. "You throw around so much grace, you'd give people a license to sin." Don't know who said that. But when I heard it, I looked around that church and realized how artificial and puffed up they were.
2years later, I am now in a IFB church that has traditional and conservative values, they sing hymns. And I see now that these people have a true faith and understand the grace that has been given to them.

No sir, that is a distortion of Ephesians 1:4. The words "in Him" does not describe WHO God chose, but HOW God chose. Just look at how "in Him" is used in verses 3, 7, 9, and 11... In each case, the words "in Him" describes the context in which God's choice took place. One could paraphrase Ephesians 1:4 to read: "just as God chose, in the context of Christ, the saints before He created the world." Your interpretation has God choosing believers, not non-believers, and that God's choice of men in eternity past is contingent upon their future foreseen faith, that an individual was not elected until he placed his faith in Christ, but this position denies verse 4 that states that this choosing took place “before the foundation of the world.” The Greek language here indicates that “chose” is not an action that took place in the past that would require future actions or modifications in the future, as if God’s choosing before the foundation of the world was somehow incomplete, rather, the language here indicates that God’s choice was a one-time, past, completed action (“chose” is in the aorist tense).
To say that "individuals are chosen by accepting..." is to do a disservice to the text since it ignores both the grammatical tense of the verb "chose," and the context into which it is used. Verse 3 sets the context for how "in Him" is used, and it is carried throughout this passage, but to assert what you have, it interrupts Paul's flow of thought, and inserts an idea foreign to the text.

Ahh the comforting "gospel"(???) of Calvinism. God has created a race, all of which hate Him, so He picks out("elects") a few of them, saves them etc in order to demonstrate His "Love for all"(8:15) and then tortures the rest forever so the few can really enjoy being saved. This is "the pleasure of His will" apparently even though the Scripture clearly says "He takes NO pleasure in the death of the wicked". Methinks RC may have a few questions to answer as he stands before Our Saviour to give an account as we all must.
