- The Voigtlander 35mm f0.9 was Fuji's fastest 50mm equivalent in the 20's, and it did not disappoint. It might just be the best 35mm lens for the Fujifilm X-mount.

watching this at 4am on a 28" widescreen crt, as god intended
The way it was meant to be viewed.
Watching this at 3am printed out on a dot matrix printer, frame by frame.
Kinda jealous… but im watching it on ipad pro with air pod pros in the dark under my blanket.
This is also acceptable ;)@@imlemoni3202
Dat tractor feed tho@@mjodr
This is the only channel for which I JUMP to watch the video as soon as I get the new video notification.
I really appreciate it :D
Same.
I found this channel only a short time ago. I got hooked by it immediately, because i like the style so much. It’s so different, so special. It‘s like a post-apocalyptic horror movie. Since I am exactly into this kind of thing, i enjoy watching these clips and i really admire the cinematic skills and effort to make them. I mean, this guy simply wants to present a lens and creates a short film with an unique look that could easily run in a movie theater. The quality of this channel is absolutely outstanding!
frfrr same😂
@@GxAce Been here from the start. You're the reason I bought an XT3.
forget Christmas, it’s GxAce international holiday
feliz navidad :)
The cinematography, the music, and the photography in your videos always make me feel like I'm watching a Blade Runner series. Excellent work!!
duh
Apparently my life is a lie and I’ve been using 1.6 as my crop factor for Fuji. It’s actually 1.52 which gives this lens an equivalent DoF and FoV of a 53.2mm f1.36.
It’s ok … my life is a lie too because I was using 1.5 until I just read it should be 1.52. 😂😘
Yeah 1.6 is mostly canon
One of my firsts was a Canon Rebel XS. Old habits die hard I suppose@@JJARCHIE
@@GxAce yeah me too , my xa7 was all touchscreen - then i switched to the a6400.
Oh man did i get a kick to the gut when i knew it was af points only
I was curious as to why you cropped the apperture as I read that you shouldn't apply a crop factor to the apperture, but I think you're talking about only the DoF and not the amount of light, right? (which I guess would be the T-stop)@@GxAce
GxAce has redefined review videos. He is a great filmmaker as well as a photographer. Not to mention the sound design and music choices. Masterful. Nobody is doing anything like this anywhere.
Your soundscape is as well designed as the video content!
Gx makes the coolest videos and I always enjoy them no matter what gear they are about. However as I’m a very excited owner of this lens (about a month), I was particularly thrilled to see Gx having uploaded a video about the lens!!! 👍
Just stumbled on your channel. Wtf. Love this dude. I been shooting dark ominous photos and listening to electronic music for much of my life and your channel speaks to me. Incredible work 🔥🧡🔥
usually i just watch youtube video on my phone, but whenever i see you've posted something, i usually watch on my 4k monitor with my nice audio gear as well. this shit is art
Lol same boat, just a 2K monitor in my case.
@@virgilhawkins5680
Same, monitor and HD600's.. Same with Posy. Exudes quality in the sound and picture which should be appreciated.
I only wish youtube was higher bitrate to truly show these as they could be.
1:26 fwiw, 7Artisans actually makes a really good 35/0.95 as well.
Indeed! I actually have the photo and cine version of that lens.
I don’t even shoot Fuji anymore but I couldn’t stop watching this. The visuals and sound design of this video are just epic. Well done.
So feel the feelings for me, Fujifilm user. Best videos ❤
every single one of this guy’s videos is a cinematic masterpiece
I LOVE the fact that you are using the Fuji X-Pro line to demonstrate this demon of a lens! My Fujifilm X-Pro 1 is my go to camera still to this very day! Nothing beats the satisfaction of using the hybrid viewfinder! Plus the shutter sound is to die for and the original X-trans sensor inside the Pro-1 is still unbeaten for film-like quality imo.
i just got it recently to see for myself how that 1st gen x-trans sensor render images . i'd love it if you could share with me your fave recipe for it as much as i know recipes can be subjective i still wanna try the ones from the OG adapters
Yes, fellow X-Pro1 user, especially if you use manual focus lenses, it's still the king! 📸
It’s the equivalent to a 56mm 0.9f not 1.4. Aperture doesn’t change.
Beautiful video as always ❤
While you are correct that the aperture doesn’t change, the effective depth of field is the same as a 1.4 lens on full frame due to the shorter focal length of 35mm. Thanks for watching :)
I love the bokeh created by this lens. I feel like it adds more depth, as if the image is almost three-dimensional.
agree. the bokeh stands out as very rich and textured, i’m in love
got my x-pro1 + 7artisans f0.95 - perfection!
mitakon speedmaster also dope 35 .9 as well
Absolutely killer videos! I'd love to see you build a cinema rig someday themed around this atmosphere/world that you've built for your videos. Seems like something that you could have a lot of fun with!
this is fucking awesome please direct a movie i wanna see this universer that you've build on a cinema screen
I always loved that you speak of these things in the past tense, as if you are in some distant dystopian Bladerunner future, melancholicaly longing for a nostalgic past. Its both somber and beautiful.
I have the 23mm 1.2 aspherical for the x mount. Really awesome lens, feels just like a modern version of my ltm nokton 50 1.5. If autofocus isnt a must, voigtlanders x mount offerings win generally over fuji in price, and in “character”.
Holy shit. The cinematography, the soundscape, and the photos themselves… Wow. Huge inspiration.
I was hoping you'd cover this lens. You did not dissapoint. I'd love to see you cover the other Fuji Voigties (esp. the compact 27mm), but of course, only cover what you're passionate about. We watch all your videos anyway, because regardless of subject matter, they're just that *damn good*. Merry christmas (or or whatever you celebrate, or if not: hope you have a great holiday)!
Yeah I'd like to see that as well. The 27 has tempted me as a small travel option. I've thought about the native Fuji 27 option but in borrowing lens I found the auto focus clunky at best. A manual option might be the way to go, especially since half my shooting is film on Minolta Rokkors at this point; would feel pretty natural.
This lens is so fast it goes out ivy and middle through our connector
My thoughts exactly
Those shots you took feel gritty, silky and bring a sense of emotion that is rare these days. Good job and please keep it up. We as photography enthusiasts need to see others at the top of the game...
The thumbnail fooled me.
I was expecting another white guy with a ring light talking directly to me and using pauses and zoom to give emphasis to irrelevant points so that his video reaches 10 minutes.
Oh boy, how wrong was I.
Each video is like an episode in a series about an alternate timeline or maybe video files sent from the future. Either way I love it.
I only wish your Lightroom presets worked with Rawtherapee or some other linux alternative to Lightroom.
Thank yout very much for the videos.
wait, dumb question, but I have the fuji 35mm on an xpro and it also has focus / aperture rings - doesn't it also communicate with the body? maybe I'm misunderstanding the difference here (besides the glass specs)
The difference is that this lens is manual focus only, no auto focus.
I left Fuji 3 years ago and this guy makes me want to go back - damn u GxAce!! 🤣
I recognize that Cat Street. End graphic in Shibuya! I love the contrasts in that part of Tokyo, especially after dark. Never got tired of wandering around with my Nikon there.
My Pentax has a “catch in focus” setting. If you hold down the shutter button and twist your focus ring the camera fires at the moment you are in focus. Doesn’t Fuji has a function like that?
That’s a super cool feature!! Fuji does not have this. I remember that back in the day on my modded Canon t2i with the magic lantern firmware there was a setting called trap focus where as soon as something entered the focus zone it would take a picture. Similar-ish!
@@GxAce Old Pentax prime lenses are very good and really easy to use because of the catch in focus. Have about 20 manual lenses and 2 autofocus (also from the old film time) and I have the full frame K1 markII and it’s an amazing camera.
Excellent and interesting video! I also love the detail with the light flashing in sync with the music at 5:25
0:08 Admin, he's doing it sideways!
That's a deep cut ;D. Thanks!
1. Does anyone else turn off ALL the room lights so they get the FULL dystopian feel of these videos too?
2. Have you tried the Touit lenses for Fujifilm? I'd VERY much like to hear your thoughts on the 35mm Touit please!!!!
Dave K
BTW, I love my filters I bought from you!
You are in luck. Take a look at the other videos on my channel and you will find one on the Touit ;).
I’m glad you take the time to watch the videos without lights on and that you enjoy the filters! Cheers.
I dont want to start a war , but fuji isnt really a good platform for "speed"
Their xtrans based iso suffers at medium to high iso - theres multiple tests.
Their hybrid af rely heavily on the CDAF part
Most of their lens affect their af speed ( which isnt a good thing ) - since a cheap lens on a different mount will usually behave better
Their focus transition are choppy , and its been so for years
Faster 0.95 for fullframe cameras exist ( equivalent wise ) and a faster 60mm equivalent 0.85 exists for apsc
I haven’t cared about iso performance on any camera for the last 10 years. They have been good enough since then. I also add a lot of grain to my images anyway. Also, saying the ISO is bad is actually a better reason to use faster lenses (I mean in terms of maximum aperture) as you don’t need to use a higher ISO. This is also a manual focus lens.
Couldn’t you have asked your German hologram how to pronounce Voigtländer?
I tried my best to pronounce it correctly : /. My German sucks.
Ive always said it ‘Voytlander’
Anyone else?
LOVE your work man! Keep up the good work! HEAVILY influencing my creative process! Just started my RUclips journey, but hoping I get to your level one-day dude!
The only thing missing for me with voigtländer lenses is weather sealing. They are easily my favorite lenses otherwise, both on Fuji Leica and Sony.
Incredible as always. You’ve been an inspiration for years and just yesterday I started on pursuing the craft again, amazing work as always dude
Your channel is fking awesome, visually superb
this beast for character and rendering eats xf 35 1.4 at lunch and dinner spitting out the ossicles (the autofocus clunky hardware). While laughing: "Magic? Uahahuhah"
yes! another gxAce Video!!
It would be funny if your secret identity was James Popsys, same lower face, same passions, TOTALLY different characters but similar personalities.
Its always a good day when GxAce uploads! Merry Christmas Sir!
I feel as if I've just watched a full fledged feature movie! Amazing production!
don't wish to brag, i think you'll find my Voigtländer Brilliant (1932) goes as fast as F/11 😏 ..soooo.. 'nough said
Just buy a Mitakon Speedmaster = Same but cheaper
Not quite as fast though ;P
@@GxAce almost..
And its one of 231 lenses with f0.95 at 35mm....boring.
It’s the only lens I’ve ever seen at f0.9. Lots of 0.95 though.
What Anamorphic lenses do you use? The barrel distortion looks awesome.
: xpro 3 still isnt great for manual focus support through viewfinder even compare to old dslr .-. so it may not 4 me
very nice review!
Eh, but the price is just painful to look at :(
1:20 "its equivalent to a 56mm F1.4 on Full frame"
Did you mean APS-C of am I about to learn something new. I thought aps-c has a bigger crop factor.
The crop factor of APS-C is 1.6x. Take the focal length and f-stop and multiply by 1.6 to get the equivalents for full frame.
@@GxAce Thank you!
This channel is a blessing to all Fujifilm shooters 😤
in past I've got chance to try fuji X-T4 with Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 and it was amazing, colors from fuji and then the unique way the image looks is insane
With X-Trans I sensor results are great too, I like it
Very nice video but Fuji X-Mount users should also fear the demon of chromatic aberrations, light diffusion and God knows what else. These earhtly demons could easily knock all your socks off.
3:32 the color grading is stunning
i pirated your presets for free haha
Got eeem
Excellent video😊!
How does it compare to the Brightin Star 35mm f0.95?
I love that lens. Of course, it's not as sophisticated as the Voigtländer, but then again it's only $180.
Iv'e used both for a few days each, Brightin Star was sharper. Build quality very close but voit was better.
@@christophergibbons8748 Yeah that's pretty much the outcome I expected.
@@-_vh_- To Voigtlander credit I will say it has a very unique character and way of rendering both out of focus and in focus, very dream like. Just to soft for my use, I realized after test purchasing both that 0.95 was not for me.
Your set design and general aesthetic is billiant! Only matched by the stellar content! 🎯📸
I've been mispronouncing Voigtlander like a chump all these years.
I love the "look" voigtlander lenses give you......but that price for a non focusing lens is very disturbing ....VERY..........this lense reminds me of Leica lense......they ask a Premium for it's name but the results you get isn't even 50% greater than your fastest Fuji lens. Sometimes people want to justify over spending for things they shouldn't.......... even though they know better. 😮
Awesome video as always. Now this lens for such price is very exclusive. With the 7artisan f0.95 at 170$ I don’t see the point of paying 1300$ for the voigtlander. Especially without autofocus. And the f1.4 and f2 also are excellent.
56mm equiv? More like 52mm equiv. 56 is what it would be equivalent to if we were using Canon's 1.6x APS-C crop factor and not Sony/Fuji's 1.52x
Was that Mitaki temple in Hiroshima? I don't think I've ever seen any RUclipsr show photos from there. Very cool.
"Voigtländer"
It makes all the difference : pronunciation changed, meaning changed.
In German, a huge number of words are written with letters having "accents" (same in Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese/Brasileiro). Without it, this is a different letter, with a different sound and a different value, making the word a different one.
The English language fails me in finding a word to help describe the kind of beauty of your work. Тоска (Russian) is the closest I have been able to find.
I just wander at what point noct became a name for fast lens? You know Canon made 50 f0.95 for full frame in 1961, and autofocus 50 f1 in 1987. Is it not dishonest to forget who the real innovator is?
I would be really interested in your take on the nokton 23 and 35 mm f1.2 as well! Those have gotten mixed reviews and I am deciding if I like my copy of the 23 1.2.
Always a treat to watch your videos. The atmosphere, cinematography and sound design always on point!
So it’s a 56mm 1.4 that performs worse and costs more than my vm 50 1.2. Why not just adapt fast m mount glass instead of spending this much on a x mount only lens?
Hey I’m interested in buying your Lightroom presets to use with my Fuji xh2, what in camera settings work best with most of your preset packs to get the similar look of your photos?
Dude. I love these videos so much. Can you just make a Cyberpunk short film already though. Seriously I want to see this movie.
Imma say it: it makes NO sense to refer to the amount of light that a lens can let into the body and onto the sensor as „speed“. If anything it should be volume, because that is what is actually happening. The volume of photons that are hitting the sensor during exposure is increased, if the aperture is increased.
For simplicity’s sake one could also refer to the „brightness“ of a lens, to indicate the amount of light it can let in.
Omly type of video where i get out food to eat just for this
:D
if it is an F1.36 equivalent, wouldn't the summilux be a better comparison?
How do you achieve the voice effect? It is amazing! Is it a plugin or analog effect? Could you tell me the name of the plugin or how you do it please?
I could have sworn that i've seen a video by you on the Nikon Fm3a. It's obviously not true but now that i think of it, that camera suits you.
I clicked on the affiliate link knowing dam well I could never afford one.
i cant even put it into words how much i love your videos
Not interested in such lenses as I only produce videos, but I return here for stuff such as 07:25 and ongoing. :)
Would you mind giving information or making a video about how you did this?
I can’t wait to see you do a cyberpunk esque feature film
I have never been transported into an alternate reality while watching a product review. Made me feel uneasy and yet hopeful.
Is the real @EposVox a supporter? Saw the name in the credits. Nice!
Amazing video as usual
I would really love to see a review of the Ricoh GR something or the Zeiss ZX1 weird camera
Hi, thank you for the videos what lightroom preset pack did you use in this video.
Super random shot in the dark... Were this pictures taken in Hiroshima?
A few were for sure!
Cool! I though I reconized Mitaki@@GxAce
I love the music for this video, would you kindly point us in the direction of the artist?
For $1500, it should have autofocus.
Imo I think its reasonable price for not only how much light is being let in but also the sharpness and some lens communication. Besides, not including autofocus is probably what stopped this lens from being a little over 3k USD
@@azuki2919 Fujifilm offers a 50mm 1.0 for around $1500 with autofocus. It is a bit longer of a focal length, but that price could be achieved. I've always loved Voigtlander lenses especially the Noktons. They have much better competition now from the likes of Mitakon, TT and 7artisans, and most of all, Laowa who offer aspherical lenses at half the price of this. The only justification I've heard for the price is the electronic communication with the camera which is nice but isn't worth all that extra money for most. I personally use the Mitakon Speedmaster which is a 0.95 and will say that in 95% of situations it's identical to this lens, and it can be had for around $300 USD.
*Leica enters the chat*
@@GxAce Lol for $15000, it should have autofocus 😂
Dang, the Patreon credit music had some Last of Us vibes.
I've got the Zhongyi/Mitakon 35/f0.95 and I _adore_ its rendering! It's not as sharp, but I don't think it has much chromatic aberration, so it's a good tradeoff I think. It always produces really pleasing jpegs! But, honestly, knowing that it's possible to report manual focus distance to the camera, as you've shown here? I *wish* it had that, because I'd love to shoot it through the OVF on my X-Pro3, just like you do here =)
Use the lens's distance scale, and peaking
@@taigenetsudo4273 that’s what I do, but it means I have to go full EVF on the X-Pro, which is a shame; this Voigtlander is a step above because you can use the OVF as GxAce demonstrates
@@henrahmagix I mean the distance scale printed on the lens barrel for zone focussing and peaking
@@taigenetsudo4273 oh sorry, when you said peaking I thought you were also talking about the EVF focus peaking highlight :) yeah I’ve used the distance on the barrel for zone focusing but I mostly shoot at

"CHRIS, GET THE KIDS!" Anne shouted from behind the curtain that seperated their small corrugated-iron hut into two rooms. "There is a new broadcast from GX!" Chris ran outside immediately, shouting "GX is live!" Little Jake and his older sister Zoe dropped their toys on the spot and ran inside, all huddling around the small flickering CRT TV they had pulled from a landfill a few years ago. It was barely holding together, but any sign from the outside world was a flicker of hope. "Dad?" - "Yes, Jake?" - "Do you think we’ll ever meet GX in person?" - "No, he has to live in hiding, you see." Jake’s eyes dropped. Then lit up again. "But he keeps broadcasting to us!" - "Hush!" Zoe wanted to hear his every word.
