I found this channel only a short time ago. I got hooked by it immediately, because i like the style so much. It’s so different, so special. It‘s like a post-apocalyptic horror movie. Since I am exactly into this kind of thing, i enjoy watching these clips and i really admire the cinematic skills and effort to make them. I mean, this guy simply wants to present a lens and creates a short film with an unique look that could easily run in a movie theater. The quality of this channel is absolutely outstanding!
Apparently my life is a lie and I’ve been using 1.6 as my crop factor for Fuji. It’s actually 1.52 which gives this lens an equivalent DoF and FoV of a 53.2mm f1.36.
I was curious as to why you cropped the apperture as I read that you shouldn't apply a crop factor to the apperture, but I think you're talking about only the DoF and not the amount of light, right? (which I guess would be the T-stop)@@GxAce
GxAce has redefined review videos. He is a great filmmaker as well as a photographer. Not to mention the sound design and music choices. Masterful. Nobody is doing anything like this anywhere.
I recognize that Cat Street. End graphic in Shibuya! I love the contrasts in that part of Tokyo, especially after dark. Never got tired of wandering around with my Nikon there.
I LOVE the fact that you are using the Fuji X-Pro line to demonstrate this demon of a lens! My Fujifilm X-Pro 1 is my go to camera still to this very day! Nothing beats the satisfaction of using the hybrid viewfinder! Plus the shutter sound is to die for and the original X-trans sensor inside the Pro-1 is still unbeaten for film-like quality imo.
i just got it recently to see for myself how that 1st gen x-trans sensor render images . i'd love it if you could share with me your fave recipe for it as much as i know recipes can be subjective i still wanna try the ones from the OG adapters

I always loved that you speak of these things in the past tense, as if you are in some distant dystopian Bladerunner future, melancholicaly longing for a nostalgic past. Its both somber and beautiful.
Those shots you took feel gritty, silky and bring a sense of emotion that is rare these days. Good job and please keep it up. We as photography enthusiasts need to see others at the top of the game...
When a product review hits cinematic awe. As a photographer of 25 years and now a DP of eight years; I absolutely love your art. I have no clue why I haven’t been a Patreon member, gonna make that happen right now. 🙌🏼
Absolutely killer videos! I'd love to see you build a cinema rig someday themed around this atmosphere/world that you've built for your videos. Seems like something that you could have a lot of fun with!
Gx makes the coolest videos and I always enjoy them no matter what gear they are about. However as I’m a very excited owner of this lens (about a month), I was particularly thrilled to see Gx having uploaded a video about the lens!!! 👍
I know nothing about Fuji camera, but I watch it for its sci-fi film look, amazing audio, lighting, and ambience. So unique, especially the "mask" and the vocal distortion effect.
I was hoping you'd cover this lens. You did not dissapoint. I'd love to see you cover the other Fuji Voigties (esp. the compact 27mm), but of course, only cover what you're passionate about. We watch all your videos anyway, because regardless of subject matter, they're just that *damn good*. Merry christmas (or or whatever you celebrate, or if not: hope you have a great holiday)!
Yeah I'd like to see that as well. The 27 has tempted me as a small travel option. I've thought about the native Fuji 27 option but in borrowing lens I found the auto focus clunky at best. A manual option might be the way to go, especially since half my shooting is film on Minolta Rokkors at this point; would feel pretty natural.
LOVE your work man! Keep up the good work! HEAVILY influencing my creative process! Just started my RUclips journey, but hoping I get to your level one-day dude!
So few channels focused on visuals use a phone's full aspect ratio. Every time you upload I run and grab my headphones, turn off the lights, and enjoy. I got my first camera because of your channel and absolutely love taking pictures.
Thanks again for this awesome episode. This Nokton seems very interesting thanks to the electronic contacts. I really love my Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm .95 on my XPRO3, but the build quality is not the best. I had to disassemble it to tighten it because it was wabbling. By the way even on the fully manual Speedmaster I can zone focus, or manually focus and use focus peaking, and even zoom on the focus area whether in evf mode or hybrid evf. You just have to set up the xpro3 settings right, set it to manual (front dial) and set up the zoom shortcut. It works like a charm on any manual lens.
Lord GxAce returns to represent the cult of Fuji. For those wondering, the closest thing I've found for e-mount is the Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95. It's obviously not in the same league, but it gets in the universe without an adapter.
Just stumbled on your channel. Wtf. Love this dude. I been shooting dark ominous photos and listening to electronic music for much of my life and your channel speaks to me. Incredible work 🔥🧡🔥
I have the 23mm 1.2 aspherical for the x mount. Really awesome lens, feels just like a modern version of my ltm nokton 50 1.5. If autofocus isnt a must, voigtlanders x mount offerings win generally over fuji in price, and in “character”.
1. Does anyone else turn off ALL the room lights so they get the FULL dystopian feel of these videos too? 2. Have you tried the Touit lenses for Fujifilm? I'd VERY much like to hear your thoughts on the 35mm Touit please!!!! Dave K BTW, I love my filters I bought from you!
You are in luck. Take a look at the other videos on my channel and you will find one on the Touit ;). I’m glad you take the time to watch the videos without lights on and that you enjoy the filters! Cheers.
I am an absolute beginner in photography. I am and I am not...I have been shooting with a phone for the last decade, apart from a compact camera which I still have. I just bought my first camera with manual settings - sigma dp 2 quattro and I am learning....the feeling of taking a shot is so satisfying sometimes...seeing the beauty and attempting to just grasp it in your own style. I just wanted to tell you that your videos inspire the tits out of me, your style is amazing! Some of your shots just tell a story in such depth. Your videos are beyond good and evil. It is like I am watching Blade Runner 2049.....Thank you!
Gorgeous video, luscious photos. And I thought my lens was fast... I just got back from a lowlight Christmas lights, portrait shoot with a manual 0.95f 50mm TTArtisan on my Fuji XT-5. Something even faster... f0.9 and 35mm, I'd say that's a dream for night street photography. That's a Speed Yōkai*! This flew under my radar. Looking at a late Christmas gift for myself for sure here. :)
Congrats on the whole aura you've created, which in turn builds your vocal fanbase. I have to admit that I, too, also react when I see your stuff in the YT flow. Oh, it's that guy with the Blade Runner aesthetic. He's always got such great images and a clear opinion on the tech. And here it was also the case. In fact, this may have indirectly helped me with my decision on whether or not to dive (further) into the Fuji x-series. So, thanks for that.
Cool aesthetics, but ultimately, he adds no real new information or data that's useful and comes off a little cringe. I say this as almost every video is the same formulaic content and it's just old at this point....
@@ChrisAnderson-z9i Well, I won't get into whether or not he's "cringe" or delivering the goods; what he is offering is a very specific vibe, a signature approach to the whole "gear talk" genre - and from the looks of his sponsor page, he's found a fanclub. I do sometimes find myself wondering why all the spaceman is necessary, but hey, to each his own. For the actual content, @PetaPixels gets it done.
While you are correct that the aperture doesn’t change, the effective depth of field is the same as a 1.4 lens on full frame due to the shorter focal length of 35mm. Thanks for watching :)

Chris ran outside immediately, shouting "GX is live!" Little Jake and his older sister Zoe dropped their toys on the spot and ran inside, all huddling around the small flickering CRT TV they had pulled from a landfill a few years ago. "Dad?" - "Yes, Jake?" - "Do you think we’ll ever meet GX in person?" - "No, he has to live in hiding, you see." Jake’s eyes dropped. Then lit up again. "But he keeps broadcasting to us!" - "Hush!" Zoe wanted to hear his every word.
