Very enjoyable video 🤩 Great information, filming and editing. And your positive attitude is very contagious 😄 I have Madeira on my bucket list. In 2006 I joined a group walking week on the Azores, and it is not too different. I recognize all the numerous shades of green, the lots of different flowers, some levadas and the rolling mist 😊 A great ezperience. Thank you for sharing 😄

Hi Torun. Since visiting Madeira we're very eager to visit the Azores. Towards the end of our trip, we met a girl at a backpackers hostel who was going onto there for a month or so, so her plans just amped up the excitement to get there. From the brief bit of research I've done so far, I think Madeira is a little easier as most things are on the main island (The other inhabited one is mostly for the huge beach and a fly and flop style holiday, and the other one is only accessible as a day boat trip as it's a wildlife reserve) where as the Azores includes the logistics of flights or ferries to get around. Thank you so much for your kind words about the filming and editing. The excitement and positive attitude I guess comes easy when you're hiking in landscapes as stunning as these

@@WhenAdventureKnox my trip was back in 2006 so things may have changed a bit. We were only on the main island and walked in several areas there. I also took a swim in the fountain of youth. Don't think it worked as I stumbled on a steep path and fell and broke my leg a few days later 🤣 It was quite "untouristy" there compared to most holiday destinations. But of course there were some tourists. I also joined a whale watching boat trip and we saw several big wales 🥰 I'd love to go there again some time. I hope you get the chance 👍🏻😊

The big lesson with this hike is to arrive early or at least out of peak hours - the early bird catches the worm as they say! The waterfall that you showed early on was beautiful but I can't believe how crowded it got after you'd been there for a while. Drone chicken is never a good idea!! Looks like a pretty tough hike especially with all those steps, I liked seeing the fish swimming against the flow of water presumably trying to get further upstream. Nice way to end with those clouds rolling through the valley.

I'd say it was only the stairs from just above Lagoa do Vento up to Levada do Alecrim that made the hike more strenuous, but an easy fix for that would be to hike back on yourself to the café where the mini buses were and get a ride back in one of those. If you do that, I'd say this walk is an easy to moderate one. I think many people like to split this up across 2 days, one day of 25 Fontes and Risco Waterfall where we had lunch, then another day of Levada do Alecrim and down to the Lagoa do Vento, allowing you to get the minibus back up without going back on yourself. But when it comes to us, there's no rest for the wicked. I've learnt over time that when we call it quits early, we get back to the accommodation and I get restless and bored wanting to be out exploring again! 100% agree with the early start!

Lovely to see 25 Fontes, I have thought about going there but it's too far for me to walk so I enjoyed seeing it through your eyes. I have seen the dandelion like plant you mentioned but it was on another walk. We went down a long tunnel that took us through to some laurasilva on the North side of the island. The tunnel was pitch black apart from the lights on our phones and we had to dodge the arching rough hewn rock on the left whilst trying to avoid falling into the levada on the right. The plant is Sonchus canariensis and a common name is dandelion tree. It is a relative of the dandelion, both belong to the aster family. It also grows in the Abbey Garden on Tresco!

That's really cool that you know the plant is called Sonchus canariensis. I wish I'd spotted it in Tresco as I love it when we travel and I can make links with other trips! The tunnels on some of the Levada walks were crazy. The longest we experienced were on Caldeirao Verde, but if I remember rightly, they had levadas higher than the floor we were walking on, but Levada Fajã do Rodrigues had some hairy sections like you describe. Really pleased you've been able to see 25 Fontes virtually if you say it's a bit too far for you to go. Is it still a little too far if you were to use the mini bus to get to the café and back too?

Hi Khatoon, I am well thank you, I hope you are too. 100% agree that this trail is one of Madeira's nicer waterfalls. Whilst I prefer the waterfall on the Levada Nova trail, as a stand alone waterfall, I loved how varies this trail was with the 2 very different, impressive falls, plus the lake and then the Levada higher up with the man made cascade - so much going on!

Last part of my research Madeira islands trails started at Levada do alecrim in area of rabachal follow course or Levada until you get to detour to path will take you to lagoa dovent , it’s spring place you find your self at top of risco waterfall house of rabachal climbing walk in rabachal.levada do Alecrim water fall hike on Madeira is one of best easy hikes on island with beautiful water fall , swimming pool at end . It’s great short hike with just 7 kilometers hike . You can visit several waterfalls, pools on way to main falls . If you please is writing without punctuation as comma and full stops unreadable as some told me . Bon Voyage best wishes for you your family friends.

Hi Khatoon. I'm not sure why someone else hasn't been able to see your punctuation, but the few commas and full stops you've used in your message show without a problem at my end. I should have read this comment of yours first as I've just replied to your other one talking about how varied the walk is and you've made exactly the same point. We have a saying in the UK of 'great minds think alike'!
