#Baltimore #Bridge #BridgeCollapse
awe im so sorry for the families who lost loved ones!!!
I retired at the end of 2022 after working for 50 years at most every port facility in Baltimore. Back in the mid 70's when the bridge was built no one imagined that container ships would become so large. In those 50 years there has never been a problem with them till now. Maybe some of these behemoths are too large to safely come in here.
I'm sure that the new bridge, when built will take that into account. As was done with the bridge in Tampa Bay when rebuilt.
Bottom line we pay people huge salaries to deal with these safety issues, but most of these jobs are given as handouts anymore. If this was so easy to do, they should have built barriers or did whatever to make it safer. This could have been so much worse if that bridge was full! We used to hold people accountable, now we are just reacting to tragedies like Maui when government people are not doing what their payed to do! We have agencies and spend billions of tax payer dollars and huge benefits for people to be on top of these risks.
Bridge supports were made too weak to lower construction costs. They should be massive reinfoced concrete structures like in Europe.
Reminds me of the Ever given blocking the Suez Canal. I don't think anyone catered for the possibility of these ships becoming this large. We really are pushing the boundaries of the available routes and infrastructure.
Because of the bridge supports being vulnerable to an impact from an out of control ship etc there should have been a tug escort until these massive ships passed the bridge.
Now tally the cost of a tug and a man's wage and fuel against the cost of lives ,the cleaning up and the cost for building a new bridge, it took me literally 1 second to work out the cheapest option, but what do I know, I'm just a simple carpenter/joiner
I’m going to be honest here, it’s extremely concerning how quickly that bridge fell apart
I am not surprised about how quickly the bridge came down. I am NOT an architect but I think that bridges like the one in Baltimore are not designed to withstand a blow from a large AND heavy ship.
@@leifjohnson617 pssst architects only design something that is estatic, us engineers calculate the construction and try to make the design work, not unneccasary expensive, yet strong/safe enough. but you are right the ship would demolish anything in its path. as for the quick falling apart. the pillars are there to withstand several directional forces. the location is not random, it is vital. taking it out is like taking out a card from a cardhouse.
God bless the family’s
That’s so sad 😢
And have the boat insurance pay for this disaster. NOT US.
What happened to the live camera of the ship? We all want to watch the workers remove the bridge pieces. Give up the live camera
It shouldn't take 12-24 months to figure out what REALLY happened.
In your professional opinion. How long should it take to remove the ship, reinforce the kneel, then get it up in drydock, before a total disassembly and inspection of every part of the electrical and drive systems?
It doesn't. It takes 12-24 months before they decide who should know what really happened.
@@jasonjulian6436 I know this...
Im sure he meant to say, "Our prayers are with the families....".
Since there were no billowing oceanic waves present in the water that night, where did the force(s) come from to knock the ship off its initial trajectory towards the open waters and redirect it towards the bridge pillar?
You dint understand how waterways are. Smooth surfaces don't mean no current.
The Cape cod canal is famous for having almost glass smooth surfaces, yet still having 60mph undercurrents. People get sucked out to sea every year, thinking it's safe to swim
@@KappaKiller108
Yes, I definitely understand that currents are present in these types of waterways and what currents can do. My comment was to what degree would it be necessary to turn such a heavy laden ship 90+ degrees, or more, in such a short span of distance. Would it take the usual anticipated current or billowing waves? We must ask these questions. Question everything, not just me.
Go back and re-read my comment. That is why I mentioned Newton's First Law. Were the undercurrents, alone, enough to turn the ship so abruptly and to such a degree? I don't know. I understand the issue about the position of the rudder, but does the physics make sense in this situation? Never be naive or gullible. Again, question everything!
On the other hand, thanks for your response. It is all good commentary. Way back when I was in corporate America, we would have "Blue Sky" Monday meetings. That was a meeting where all ifnthe engineers in my group would come together and throw out ideas without the concern of any idea being over the top or stupid. That way we got practically every possibility on the table. Next, we would review every idea for its benefits, if any, then discard what was left. Oftentimes the so-called dumbest ideas had some of the best hidden gems.
Keep the conversation and inquiry going. Yet a surprise fact may turn up that changes the narrative from benign to sinister. Accept the truth, even if it hurts.
@@KappaKiller108
Yes, I understand undercurrents. My response was to what degree would it be necessary to turn such a heavy-laden ship greater than 90 degrees and in such a short span of distance. That is why I mentioned Newton's First Law - taking into consideration the rudder's position in maintaining a particular trajectory, what quantity of force would be necessary to redirect an unpowered ship to that degree in such a short time and over such a short distance - the usual undercurrents or billowing waves?
With what has been going on in our nation over the past year regarding suspect mass shootings, and even scientifically valid questions about September 11, 2001 events, as patriots, we must always seek the truth. Even if the truth hurts in the short run, it may save us from much greater sorrows in the long run.
Never let anyone deny you the right to use that inquisitive device that is stored within your cranium. The life you save may be your own.
Hey it’s the reporter from curb your enthusiasm “ Disgruntled”
That bridge fell like dominoes.such a tragedy. Support beams should have been protected and the ship was too large and traveling too fast.
Exactly
The ship never should have left dock with those electrical issues.
船到橋頭自然直錯了
I'm going to Monday morning quarterback this but if it was such a critical port with so many ships in an out and so many vehicles traveling across the bridge and employees billions of dollars etc. why were the embankments never expanded to a more suitable standard? You don't have to rebuild the entire bridge to make the bridge embankment larger. A little forethought to the potential of a ship running into a pillar?
Oh and trains. Apparently trains go across that bridge as well. Who knew
It’s suspicious that the ship was working fine until it got within a certain distance of the bridge… then it “lost power”. It makes me think some crew member may have intentionally sabotaged the ship.
or maybe the 2 US pilots sabotaged it. Or maybe Trump, the Pope, Mickey Mouse, etc. If you don't know anything, you should just be quiet.
Its poor ship design and even poorer decision making by the crew
The ship had no back up to the propulsion so even though electrical power was restored, it was still out of control
The bridge should have been made the decision to turn the ship around using what limited control they had
The fact is that the captain did not want to pay the extra money involved with returning to port to resolve the issue
instead , he opted to chance it
The last bit showing the ship veering shows that bow thruster was still operational
so bad ship design and even worst decision making by the crew
You are correct, they are going to grill the crew extra crispy to find why
Look at the corruption we’ve seen for the last four years. Then all of a sudden an accident happens that negatively impacts a significant portion of the country’s infrastructure.
RIGHT! Why di it turn directly into the support when it was going to miss it?

@0:56 you see a person be thrown up and fall on the bridge
America's mistake, they knew large cargo ships routinely pass under the bridge. Why they never build reinforcement? It was not a "terrorist" attack.
Yeah its just a big coincidence right?
America: Why can't we build bridges...
Mark Rober: Let me have a crack at it...
The future: Its the most advanced ever built in all of history.
Who was the captain of the ship
The captain wasn't the person steering the boat at the time of the incident.
London bridge is falling down falling sown falling down.
Now thats stupid. You have never worked on a ship ,have you ?
So since 1980 and updated bridge design parameters, they never installed barriers to prevent this from occurring. Wonder how many other bridges are vulnerable like this bridge was.
Did you see the size of the ship? No bridge can be hit by such a large ship without at least losing some structural integrity.
There was significant piling in place to protect the supports. This has nothing to do with the bridge, but everything to do with the ship. It lost power, lost its steering, while the 100,000 ton barge veered straight for a support. It was a very well constructed bridge and was in great shape, but not built to resist that force and weight. It is the barge sizes that need to be reevaluated.
@@4Sunflower there were no barriers in place, did you even watch the video?
And I’m quite aware that the bridge wasn’t designed for a lateral impact of that size. My point is it would’ve been cheaper to build install barriers over the last 44 years than now clean up and build an entire new structure.
@@jayasmrmore3687 BS, even a ship of the 80s could have destroyed bridge. In 1980 a ship did "chip" pillar, bit different angel and perhaps bridge would already have collapsed in the 80s. This time a ship did hit pillar again, pillar of bridge was not designed to handle a collision with a ship.
@@4Sunflower " It was a very well constructed bridge and was in great shape, but not built to resist that force and weight. Not having protective berms around those support columns was a costly oversight it now appears.

Country music festival not christian church. But the logic of nonprofit and contactless payments. Regarding how it is a type of insurance and the way the event seems, seems like a religious meetup.
Thus, they are people who are using a lot of unionizing and event organizing and using audio engineering and using scams.
Therefore, the context of the plans they have for fairness for the people attacked by them or who didn't go or are stalked and so forth. Regarding how the country music festival viewed as christian services could be the Maersk and the Frances key bridge...
Like, the example would be a full 'country' country music festival license ticket payment each year like a subscription; and be returned to the people like a nonprofit. It's paid by a credit union because it's a nonprofit and later the people pay/ contribute (which is decided by attendance). Same could be said with schools, public and private. And libraries. All of it with the credit union could imply work.
Therefore, having a profile and insurance could be solving homelessness through outreach nonprofit organizations as well as mental health issues and behavioral issues, etc. like it's able to be a government internet investments of social organizations through a nonprofit organization. Which would mean that it's like a type of peace corps stipend payment associated with subscriptions and memberships through nonprofits (like, as an internet provider employee and so forth, the free websites aren't free but appear to be.). Like, Google's apps and search and websites as well as other things like free phones are all relying on the contributions.
Thus, without a full portfolio for it like it is a country wide government nonprofit including the full fediverse, it's like always spending money on things not being used without being reimbursed but with the insurance, it's like always having a lower quality version considered free due to it being a free recreational service for the yearly contribution (despite not being public.).
Thus, peace corps and how festivals could be a type of social services using the businesses as nonprofits for organizing social media technologies and profiles (data collections) for the conflict resolution of community services costs...
Complicated but with a plan...
Potentially populations are unionizing like confiscations of property that is already nonprofit while acting against peace corps while denying correct social services and community insurance; and it makes automated systems of Bitcoin and safepal and dapp systems have book keeping financial aid social media and agreements made automatically like the persons are employees with default payment plans for conflict resolution (like bankers assistance helps them pay for the circumstances like one-time donations).
As though Churches are country music festivals.
Google Fi is festival insurance?
"Fi" is festival insurance?
Scientology basically is it, so it solves the case.
Therefore they force people to be homeless and charge them for everything claimed as free and make them pay rent and deny their insurance and deny their finance while making stories about having to pay security and so forth. Like, later they still follow and stalk the people but it's like "you probably get paid unemployment financial aid services from a school union educating about nonprofits" while supporting capitalism (classifying the people as prisoners; it could be the same reason why safepal dapp system is about geopolitical systems of finance and division/ diverse finance rather than being in personal pocket as well as avoidance of credit unions and so forth). Thus, it's like "when did those people ever live differently? Because it's always an excuse and their intellectual property work and legal work was always like fake nonprofits while doing fake community service." Like, they modified costs and made charges and relations that were starting fights and imprisoning people who were employees. Like they use no business formality nor use proper business programs instead it's like identity fraud and theft.
The true costs of RUclips and deepfake insurance when the people wouldn't believe that they are paying but will never pay more than the minimum while accumulating media against them (like a profile network they would want to put into collections and do an employment credit payment plan for resolving; which would look like holding a fulcrum against theirself while paying the people who used it to attack them like they are meeting the employment Insurance needs and apologizing (financial prison)).
Financial prisoners always ask for free lawyers like they can't use their own didactic reasoning because they already tied up their didactic reasoning legal work with conflicts (as though they are bitcoins held in fulcrum-wallets-against them).
Thus, the addressing would be the context of conflict between the different groups and cultures and their employment records and relations and insurance. Similar to "what's right and true for one person isn't right nor true for another." Thus, using christian services/ church/ festival insurance to organize public schools and make social business contracts like a migration division of worker employment (a dependency program contract (could be an ultimatum presupposed by claims that they did more work than others cared to recognize was needing to be important and relevant towards the diction of their Bitcoins and value of contribution and insurance (similar to not conforming to the issues of identity related circumstances of finance relations through safepal dapp))).
Safepal dapp could be really old and be much more global in it's roots now than before, regarding the content of negotiations having expanded into a full fediverse of dapp. In fact, safepal and dapp could be, SNAP benefits programs (like the more torrents and seeds and so forth, the more they have geopolitical debit options like a meritocracy insurance profile). Denying education in courts when the formality of situation defines the arrangement as an only ultimatum of the judge for a choice between two unions of option for their geopolitical finance means that safepal dapp (snap) has a solution already pre-planned (since it's all preplanned and repositories, the libraries or organizing is like real insurance employment work).

How many times have engineers repeatedly told us and the GOVERNMENT that bridges were designed over 30+ years ago and need to be either completely renovated or demolished and rebuilt entirely. We knew this after the I35W bridge collapse in Minnesota. When is the government going to listen to engineers and inspectors to fix old bridges and other infrastructure.
comparing baltimore to minneapolis is like comparing apples to oranges.
The Minneapolis bridge collapse was because the bridge collapsed ON ITS OWN.
In Baltimore, the truss bridge came down because a very heavy object hit it just right.
@@barbiek3987 the point is that bridges in this nation need to be updated? What part of that do people not understand. The Minneapolis bridge was neglected, this bridge was ignored. Different situations same result. All bridges in America that were built 30+ years ago to a different standard need to be updated to meet today’s regulations. If they had built buffer systems in front of the beams the bridge could be still standing. Yes no one expected it to happen but that’s why those new safety features are there. You hope you never need to use them but they are there just in case.
