    I've watched most of the latest Capture One Pro 20 videos the past two days, but nobody does a better job of explaining a tutorial than you Scott! I always look forward to your next video. Capture One and Affinity Photo are my choice for photo editing software with much thanks to your tutorials this past year.

      Thank you very much Meyou. I always appreciate your comments. Capture One and Affinity Photo are perfect partners. I use both every day.

    I love capture one but these are minor tweaks which should have been added to minor incremental updates. I was looking forward to something innovative and ground breaking which would compel me to spend the hefty price tag attached. I’ll wait for version 21 in 2021, however, for the Lightroom users who are considering switching, it is totally worth it.

      That's the great thing about buying instead of renting. You can skip versions if they don't offer enough for you.

      Being able to skip upgrades if they don't offer anything to you is great as it saves you money. If the upgrade does offer you improvements that you want then you don't mind the upgrade cost.

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography : I buy instead of rent and it seems like they catch up with you and make you pay more in the end no matter what. It's great software overall, though. Blows LR away in my view.

    Thanks for showing all these features, great video. I want to start a professional photography and art buisness this year, mainly landscapes. After researching this and the other Adobe alternatives for a few months, I am torn between getting this or Affinity Photo, but I see that Capture One 20 is now really expensive compared to Affinity. So a couple questions, which package of Capture One 20 are you using here, on their site today, there is the full package at over £400 and the one below it at £299 with presets missing I think it was. My second question, do you know if Affinity is as good as Capture One 20. Affinity is just under £50 and I'm really worried that I won't make any money in the first year and would regret forking out the extra money for Capture One 20 if it's no better then Affinity.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 года назад +1

      Capture One and Affinity Photo are two different types of program. Capture One is a system for organising images with limited editing power. Affinity Photo is a full photo editor without image file organisation. These types of programs are typically used together. Organisation and basic editing are performed with Capture One and then advanced editing is done with Affinity Photo. I use both daily. I would start with affinity photo to learn how to edit. Then download and try as many of the different Capture One type programs you can. As well as Capture one, On1 Photo RAW and Alienskin Exposure X5 are two excellent choices that are cheaper.
      I use the basic version of Capture One Pro 20. I never buy presets.

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography ah ok thanks. I have been using Cyberlink Photodirector for a number of years now, which has the normal tools any other editor has, so I'm used to using various slider tools, curve tool, spot removal, masks, etc, but it's only until I started researching the other Adobe alternatives and even Lightroom and Photoshop, that I found out that Photodirector is poor by comparison. It's really poor at removing even small amounts of noise. It's been ok for improving photos for internet use, but I wouldn't say you could get anything to a sellable quality off it. And of course I stupidly ended up deleting some good images in the past, thinking they couldn't be made good because of Photodirector and now realise they could be using other software.

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography True. Most of my images left C1 after going through the (advanced) color editor. The beefed-up standard editor simplifies easier routine work. I have yet to check whether those mouse gestures map somehow to the tablet. Would be a bummer if not.

    Great quick tour, thanks, Scott. I'm always bemused by the "I would have switched from Lightroom if they had included..." comments. The trouble is that everyone has their own wish list! Stacking? Panorama? Merging HDR images? Library management? A history tab? Bracketing? There doesn't seem to be much of a consensus.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 года назад +1

      Thank you very much. It would be nice to have extra features but for me they are not needed. I have Affinity Photo for those types of functions. I use Capture One because I like the sessions and I absolutely love the image quality. There is something about the way Capture One handles RAW files that I haven't found with any other RAW editor that I have tried. I also find that Capture One is quick. When I have hundreds of images to process I can get through them in no time. And the interface is beautifully designed and programmed.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography

    • @ianyorke2617
      @ianyorke2617 4 года назад

      When I use bracketing I prefer to use a dedicated program that gives me full control of the process. It also keeps my raw processor "clean" and focused on image editing.

  • @lvervoortify

    Excellent overview, thanks. Still happy about my move from LR to C1. One important feature I'm still missing and hoped to see in this update is the keystone auto-straighten tool : in LR with just one click you can auto straighten all vertical and horizontal lines which is very useful for example in architecture photography. I never seem to get the entire picture right in C1 when using the Keystone tool. Maybe I am overlooking something.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 года назад

      Thank you very much. I agree. The Lightroom auto straighten tool is better than the Capture One Keystone tools. I don't think you are overlooking anything. With the Capture One tools it just takes a little practice.

    Is it possible select separate pictures landscape or portrait. In bridge it is possible but I can´t find it in Capture One 20

      Good question. I had no idea so I had a look and you can. On the filters panel in the file tab select the three dots next to the question mark. Select Show/Hide filters. On the panel that pops up select orientation. Now you should have the orientation section at the bottom of the filters panel. Select either landscape or portrait. Hope that helps.

      There's no dehaze slider as such. But a RUclips search for "capture one dehaze" turns up a few videos in which this is discussed. I also found that a web search for something like this:
      +"capture one" +dehaze

    A very well presented review. However you did not show how to make the crop, I wonder if that is the same as before? the only way to crop is exporting the photo. Two clicks rather than one.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 года назад +2

      Cheers Steve. When you have finished cropping just choose the hand tool and you will see your crop before exporting. Though the image is not actually cropped at this point. It is showing you the crop that will be applied on export. This is the nature of a non destructive workflow. The final image on disk is only actually cropped on export. It is the same with Lightroom and other RAW processors. It allows you to adjust the crop and then re-adjust later if you change your mind.

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography Still Capture One is the best out there anyway - but the improvements are more like an update for me. Better to work with of course but still some improvements to be done, like having the chosen image always centered in browser view or thumbnail view, which I put on "my" wishlist and theirs, too. Aperture had it right from the beginning but since then noone else. I cannot see why this is missing.

    I have one major issue with this new version. In v.12 I could click on a slider and use the Left and Right Arrows to adjust with fine tuned control. That looks to have been removed. Now, when I click on a slider and click either arrow it switches to another photo. This is a major inconvenience for me as I'm editing on a laptop in a tight space so I don't have a mouse, only the laptop touch pad. Other than this major frustration, I'm really liking what I've seen so far of the new editing features.

      Had the same problem, then I realized that now you have to click on the field where the numeric values are located, to the right of the sliders. Then you can use the left and right arrows. Hope this helps.

    • @mikearst2940
      @mikearst2940 4 года назад +1

      @@eduardoarg607 That also works if you are using the mouse's scroll wheel to scroll the entire tool tab. Clicking in a slider's editable text field enables you to use the mouse wheel without Alt for adjustments. I notice this difference to version 12: now pressing Tab removes the "focus" from the editable text field AND moves it to the next text field. Pressing ENTER instead removes the focus from the current text field.

      @@ScottWilliamsPhotography I did the upgrade, but was quite surprised that virtually all of the new features are part of the "free" for Sony and Fuji users package. Yet they are asking us "Pro" users to foot a $160 upgrade fee to get those same features (basic color correction changes, scrolling tools, crop updates, noise reduction, High Dynamic range changes, etc). They make the best RAW processor on the market, but the upgrade costs for basically UI tweaks and slight modifications to tools is pretty nuts. Think about this, that upgrade cost could buy any of the other RAW processors on the market right now as a new customer.
