I grew up next to the sp tracks in the central san joaquin valley and would watch the switch engines for hrs.Still enjoy watching them now at 65 yrs old.Guess some like trains all their life.
After 40 years of driving a truck sometimes I'll help the crew of the CI&W branch line that supplies the plant that we haul raw materials to and after a few times helping them I finally learned that trucking is a whole lot easier than what a railroad does.
They were used on all trains until (IIRC) the 1980s. Many railroads still use them on long push moves, rather than have the conductor hanging on to the ladder on the last car for miles.
Good maneuvers, good catch... You'd be so kind as to give me the coordinates to find the precise place where you recorded these tracks. Thanks in advance.
I can see, that on the side off all the grain cars, there are mounted something that looks like a solar panel. Do anybody know what the purpose is? Thanks for posting. Regards Jensen, Denmark
Those units came from Delta yard in Everett via Lowell. This line is still used every week. It got really slow there for a while but business is picking up again fortunately.
@@3RTracing Delta Yard is North of Lowell. It is on the North side of Everett. If you are at Lowell looking railroad West, the track that cuts to the far right is the yard lead.
OK. I live on the BNSF E W mainline right on Sunset Falls. The Sunset Falls Trestle is the main focus of my front room window, sans Sunset Falls. I get 20 or 30 trains a day, depending on the day of the week. Some of the more standout trains have the re powered GP 38's, and 39's. We are also seeing more and more GP 60B's in a new version of the Heritage paint scheme. Lots more Santa Fe War Bonnets too in GE and EMD configurations. Finally, seeing all the new Progress EMD SD traffic is a real welcomed change from all the GE junkomotives that are failing all the railroads like flies. One of my BNSF management and operations friends states it real well: the railroads bought all the GE stuff because it was cheap. It was never built to last like EMD. Most Class 1 railroads are bringing out hundreds of older EMD stock, repowering them with 1010 primes, and putting them back on revenue service. I come from a long line of railroaders, and every generation of my family has been in railroading back to the mid 1800's.
Other than both being built by EMD, there is no connection at all. Two completely different designs and completely different locomotives. The only similarity I guess would be the three windows on the cab.
I'm curious why the Eastside crew just didn't pull the string out for the BNSF crew to simply back up, connect and go, as opposed to running around like they did. Very nice video.
@@MilwaukeeF40C stop it I think it's because the BN crew wanted that MoW train to stay on the ass end. If they did it your way their power and caboose would be in the middle and it would be another move.
@@stuff_n_thanngs7552 Rail crews can not just move cars that are technically, on paper, under the custodianship of a different railroad. If they were part of the BNSF train and were never sent to the shortline for handling, all kinds of crap could result.
@@stuff_n_thanngs7552 I am between railroads. I did some unauthorized switching and then they found sleeping pills in my piss. You don't do unauthorized switching, do you?
I can't believe BNSF is wasting these 3,800 HORSEPOWER SD60Ms on SWITCHING AND BRANCH LINE WORK. Seriously. Stop scrapping those SD40-2s and get them rebuilt as ECOs or -3s if you want switchers
Bet that don't happen often Train switcher off one train encounter train switcher from another train on the same line of opposite sex. Wonder what the best train pick up line would be in this situation? Hey Baby...... Hey baby........ Hey baby........ Wonder if he was offended when he saw her train was way longer than his was?
It is how 8888 ran loose, cause it was only doing switching. They don't have time to do the air hoses car after car, so they connect them when the train is ready to be delivered to its required location.
Definately not a violation. Its a switch move. And i think they did cut in the air he just started pulling so fast they weren't all the way released yet. Also not a violation. More foamers thinking they know shit about the RR...
Triclops and "white face"- BN paint scheme, absolute old skool! I love the sound of the traction motors at the beginning. great Video👍
I really enjoyed this. This little junction would make a wonderful subject for a small HO shelf layout. Cheers.
Nice seeing the caboose and the lady working the switch.
Nice video that depicts the essence of railroading. Thank you for sharing.

Yea..it does get into the blood.
Trains do!
You never outgrow them.
Thanks Fiddleman for the awesome footage. 👍
Interesting Locomotives..rarely seen elsewhere.

A caboose on the second train! I haven't seen one in use since the 1960s!

Great compilation! 👏
Nice Catch!
Love the video, keep them coming.
Awesome footage
1:42 I like the sound when the train connects to the train cars. Awesome vid btw 👍👐
Surprisingly entertaining rail action! At the right place, and at the right time. Very nice! Subscribed :))
Very impressive switchn👍
Great seeing archaic equipment still in usage. A "Cow" (NW or SW?) and Shoving Platform(Caboose).
It really is. The locomotive is an EMD SW1200 originally built for the Missouri Pacific.
Fantastic
Nice video
Excelente Video.
Keep these videos coming great stuff
Nice vid, meets are always cool. I been lucky catching them lately
Excellent!!! Thank you for sharing.
Great video! 👍
Thanks for the video
Did I see a caboose!! Wow!
I’ve never watch a connection. Neat .
Very interesting!
Keep them coming!
Are you from Kazakhstan or some Central Asian country?
Beautiful sd 60 triclops
Awesome
Ex Burlington Northern sd60 triclops that's cool

That would be Snohomish, Washington folks.
Sweet!
A caboose? How XIXth century of them.
Those EMD's sure sound like music to my ears. Those stinkin GE's sound like garbage cans.
1:40 Very rough coupling!

Them are ballast cars. Remote/satellite dumps so they can program when to quit dumping rock like over a bridge or a crossing.

Nice!
Gorgeous caboose! Looked to be fit as a fiddle. Still in active use?
The caboose is in immaculate shape! They use it on every run as a shoving platform.
Does the Eastside get out much anymore? I usually see that engine hanging out in the Woodinville/ Bothell yard. Never seen it out. :(
Yes they do. Typically once a week. Usually Tuesdays.
Hardly ever see any BN units in Southern California any more
Even up here in Seattle all I see is bnsf units. Unless I go to the train yards.
Great area to film!! Does that high line get much use other than temporary caboose storage?
Nope - no service. Just around the curve, the rails go over the Snohomish River on a high bridge. The rails are severed at the far end of the bridge.
Is that engine what's considered a triclops?
Yes, that is correct.
@@Fiddleman200616 Thanks Buddy!
Did the SD 60's come out of Interbay, or Lowell? What is the current status of this spur line? Are they still actively switching cars or did it die??

Somehow I have been mistakenly calling Delta Lowell. Having looked at the map, I see the two yards now.

Are these the locos that inspired the F59PH? Or these were after the build of the F59PH

They did not connect the Air Brake hoses. That's a Railroad Safety Violation, and is highly against the Administration Protocol Procedure.
Celtic Guardian yes they did connect the airhoses.
Surely that qualifies as a yard movement while switching, why cut in the air?
I believe they did out of view. There were people on both sides of the train.
