I would say each of their voices are easy to distinguish from the others. Maybe it's because I'm a big fan, but it's always easy (for me) to tell who's singing. Their voices all sound very different to me.

My sister and I have been Beatles fans since 1964, and are always listening to The Beatles Channel, and are are always asking the same question...How did all this come together, all four living in Liverpool, get managed by the only person that could have presented them well in Brian Epstein, and produced by an amazing classically trained musician in George Martin. I thank the Lord every day for this amazing gift known as...The Beatles.
And not only that, they met Ringo in Hamburg and it happens to be that he also grew up in the same city as the other three, certain threads were definitely moving around these boys so their magic could start.

So many other things like the draft being dropped, society allowing working class kids etc , the war ending....Hamburg being a thing...one of the poorest overlooked cities producing these guys...then meeting a producer like George Martin...nuts
"Baby, it's you" was already a great song - but John's vocals just add to it. I always adored "Do you want to know a Secret?" The British accent was to die for - esp to us Americans!!! Plus, I just luv the song itself.
In "A Taste of Honey" the verse is in 3/4 (waltz) time and the chorus is in 4/4 (common) time. This is the reason for the mood changes within the song. All the songs are great standards - the Shirelles' "Baby It's You" is worth a listen, and The Tijuana Brass gave a tasty Mexicali instrumental version of "Honey".
I really enjoy your appreciation and love of the Beatles early recordings. Unless you were there at the time, you cannot fully understand how fresh and radical they were in the early-mid-sixties. When I first saw and heard them on TV during their 1964 Australian tour ... their speaking accents, hairstyle and music ... well ... they might as well have been extra-terrestrials as far as I was concerned. I was gobsmacked.
You can see the versaility of them even back during this first album. Actually, they were always this way, as a jobbing band back during the Cavern and Hamburg days. They needed a large repertoire to keep all the punters happy. Plus, i think they liked all different genres of music (as you'll see going forward) , esp Paul; to them music was music and a good song was a good song.
More early Beatles -- woot! "Baby It's You" was obviously taken straight from their live shows, and was probably banged out with no fuss (except for George Martin's keyboard solo edited in later). IMO "A Taste of Honey" is Paul's answer to "Baby It's You", although it's a better song overall. The shift into the shuffle for the bridge is just great. "Do You Want to Know a Secret" may be the earliest Beatles song I can remember as a young kid in the 60's. The vocal is so full of earworms, plus that descending chromatic phrase. Throw in George's thick accent bending the words (which was fascinating for American listeners) and it's an iconic early Beatles song.

Am loving you doing the whole catalog. You'll be amazed at their evolution across what is really just a few years. I absolutely love all of their voices, but John's is my favorite. He was always trying to overdub his voice as he didn't care for it.

I like all three songs, imagine if not, second one I think is so romantic 'I have kept a secret for a week or two and now only we both know I'm in love with you' I think it's brilliant, the high point in the middle of an innocent adolescent love story, I really love it. The third one was Billy Preston's favorite and he always asked them to play that one for him.

John's vocals on "Anna" (Go To Him") and "Baby It's You" from this album are just off the charts incredible. His vocals are so raw and emotional, you can feel them. That's a rare talent. Between 1963-64 they were the "Kings of cover versions" No one has ever done it better. I feel that in just about every cover they did they were better than the originals. They put their own spin on them but in a very respectful manner. Greatest cover band ever! I have always loved "Do You Want To Know A Secret" also that John wrote for George. I think that every song George sang between 63-64 that wasn't a cover John wrote for him. He always looked out for George, Paul, not so much. Nothing pisses me off more than this narrative that started a few years back that The Beatles were the first boy band. They were never a boy band. Where did this BS come from? Just these two Lennon covers aren't boy band stuff. This is professional big boy stuff. Do people realize that ten of the fourteen tracks on this Lp were recorded in one 12 to 13 hour marathon session that's never been done by anyone else to this day. This ended about midnight with John just absolutely shredding the vocals on "Twist And Shout". He had a cold and George Martin knew he only had one take in him and John killed it. In his words he said " I had no voice left so I just screamed it out". One take and George Martin went to his grave believing and always putting it out there as he said "I have always felt that it was the single greatest track ever laid down on a piece of vinyl" Anyone want to argue that statement with me then bring it. That's not boy band BS . That's professional, major league big boy man stuff there. You have to look at the musical landscape when the Beatles hit because overall it was pretty damn lame. They were a new sound that was never heard before. Hell, Sixty years on now this album still sounds fresh today. Lyrics back in 63 and 64 were pretty simple. Listen to what they listened to and were inspired by as teens in the fifties. Just because they're The Beatles what do these people expect? That they were supposed to write "Strawberry Fields Forever" or "A Day In The Life" in early 1963. For Christ's sake, when they recorded this Lp, John and Ringo weren't 23 yet. Paul wasn't 21 yet, he was F**king 20 and George was 19 and would turn 20 fifteen days after they recorded this album. Now if you want to call them a boy band because they were just kids but don't give me this boy band BS because of their music. If you push this agenda I call that envy because your favorite band couldn't have done what they did at that age at that time or maybe because you couldn't have done that at that age. If you don't mind a slight correction: When you say "acoustic guitars," you're really hearing hollow-bodied electric guitars, which, when played with a clean sound, resemble the sound of acoustic guitars to an extent. They did use acoustics, though, on "Love Me Do" and "Till There Was You," and then a whole bunch starting in '64.

The remastered versions were different than the originals. More depth was added. I listened to these songs ENDLESSLY... over and over and still have my original albums albeit well worn.

John Lennon's vocal during this era were untouchable. Having the flu at the time of the recording made his voice scratchy and sort of raw sounding, but it sure added emotion to the Motown/ R&B covers like Anna and Baby It's You. Twist & Shout (last song recorded) became a rock standard with John's all-out flu vocal performance. If you listen to John singing Twist & Shout on TV/Concert performances in 1963-64, you will hear how it SHOULD have sounded on the Please Please Me album (Incredible too - but without the flu effect!).
You're screwing around with the tempo. Slowing the songs down slightly. Do you think this helps you get around the copywriter police? It's funny because George Martin used to speed up the recordings on their early sessions before releasing, so I've heard. Stay safe...be well...

Do You Want to Know a Secret is one of the underrated/forgotten songs of the Beatles. But beautiful lyrics, vocals, melody...perfect! Very sweet song.

As I recall they gave ‘Secret’ to Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas who had a number one hit single with it in the UK.
