- Know why the trails are so awesome before you
make the trip. Flow trails or rocky-rooty technical?
At Loosely Bound paper maps don't
cut it. That is why we are building a database of full
mountain bike trail POV videos. We live and ride on the
east coast, so that is what we are building out first.

Loosely Bound,
Are you still around to moderate? I would like to ride the trail tomorrow and I have some questions I would like to ask you. Thank you very much for your time and the effort you put into filming and posting this content.
Loosely Bound, Are you still around to moderate.
Loosely Bound,
Are you still around for moderating? I would like to ride the trail tomorrow and I have some questions that I would like to ask you. Thank you very much for your time and the effort it took to film and post this content. With sincere appreciation, DLW
Hey @dlw sport - sorry I missed this, my apologies. Happy to answer any questions if still relevant.
Loosely Bound I apologize for the repeat messages. Unfortunately I’m not the worlds greatest at posting to RUclips or Facebook for that matter. I wanted to know if someone that is a level four out of 10 could do this particular trail by themselves?
Not to worry at all. Let's see, it's been a few years since I have done this. I recall getting to this trail taking a while. We parked around the fish hatchery and rode up Davidson River Road and across Cathey's Creek Road to get to the top. Fun descent and not too challenging I would say, but fairly difficult to access - or tiring. Took a few hours of climbing on a road. If I recall properly, part of the reason for the roundabout access was due to the prevalence of hiking-only trails in this specific area. In this area the Daniel Ridge trail is fun and will likely be a good challenge for you but it is not super long so that minimizes the risk. Bennett Gap is the most bang for your buck in terms of descending, but you may need to walk some steeper sections.
If you are looking for easier stuff that is super fun I would highly recommend Dupont State Forest. The Hickory Mountain to Ridgeline descent is super fun. Big Rock and Cedar Rock are iconic. Burnt Mountain is a great loop and the abandoned airstrip is fun to explore.
In short, Pisgah is defined by 1h+ climbs up dirt roads and long descents, where as Dupont is more up and down and shorter loops. Hope this helps - thanks for your patience!
Loosely Bound I have been doing the gravel around pinnacle in sky Valley waiting for DuPont to open. I’ve been able to do lower black successfully five times in the last week. Can you tell me a little bit about middle black? I really appreciate you getting back to me by the way!
Upper and middle black are steeper and more technical. I recall the descent being moderate and fairly straight so you could go fast if you want. The climb up to the top of black mountain took like 2 hours which was not super fun. I believe I posted a trail preview of Black Mountain somewhere on the channel, but you can also watch this to get an idea - www.vitalmtb.com/videos/member/Riding-Black-Mountain-with-Neko-Mulally,37739/BHowell,45918
