      @@linkingyourthinking I would agree….I think the reason is because it is a combination of not just what Obsidian is and how to use it…..it also gives you the practical reality of why yiu should use it and great common sense explanations with the topic used as an example…..gives the listener something to use to perhaps apply to their topics and apply the concepts he explained. Also above everything it is the compassion of the presenter who believe s deeply in what he is teaching and is truly committed in helping his listeners…..and also welcomes people to write for further clarification,…..that is what makes this man so good….

    This is a terrific series for getting started! As Nick mentions, writing in Markdown text is fast and gives you portable plain-text documents, but it's also important for beginners to know that, by switching to "Preview" mode, you get beautifully formatted text (without all the #'s and *'s) that you can cut-and-past into Word or wherever.

    • @linkingyourthinking
      @linkingyourthinking  3 года назад +27

      You're absolutely right about this benefit.
      And you're presienct too! I may have already filmed an upcoming "Hotkeys" video showing exactly how to toggle Preview mode.

    • @seamasaccounts4363
      @seamasaccounts4363 3 года назад +6

      Thanks for this comment because despite its portability advantages, markdown is butt ugly and distracting. We are now coding fir the machines instead of the machines doing it for us! Nick does a terrific job setting and then delivering on learning objectives

    • @roqsteady5290
      @roqsteady5290 3 года назад +2

      Also I notice, you can right click and edit the current note in your default editor, which in my case is Typora, which converts markdown to wysiwyg on the fly.

I think that give up learning new things because they get lost, lose momentum, or cannot follow the methodology because of the lack of skill of their teachers. I've been using Obsidian in a rather naive fashion for quite a while, but I'm definitely ready to get into it a bit more, and make my use of it more efficient. I like these beginner tutorials even as someone who's not completely a beginner, because it helps me make sure I haven't missed something. For example, I never really used tags. I can see their value relative to the nested folder structure I have been using (allowing you to give multiple tags for a note, etc.), so I'll definitely start doing that now. Thank you!
    I still have some specific questions, but I'll go through the rest of the tutorials first to see if you're already addressing those somewhere.

      @@Flumpfy Maybe so but making things simple is a lot harder than it looks. Usually the hardest. And thus deserved to be recognized.
      I've been needing to do serious note-taking to gather thoughts and ideas that are often lost which I often find regretful later on, sometimes years afterward. Been hearing about Obsidian. Tried to get into it. Seems too complicated. Delayed for over 1 year then found this video. It does help me get started.
      I don't care if the other commenters are bots to be honest (they just might not be). I just find these videos useful. In the times of stupid YT shorts and TickTockers, these kind of videos are valuable. And that matters to me.

I can immediately get a feel for "the power of linking my thinking." And as a friend once told me, "Organized thought is power in the mental environment." This gives me goose bumps... We must find a way to be in control in this medium OR others with more powerful minds will control us.

    i wondered why you didn't use the preview mode in obsidian . this is the point . we use something like # or ~~ and so on , to form our text to looks better . so when we write our markdown , we should render it to loos without the shapes and stuff .

    When I used to use the Blue Yeti I found that mounting it on a mic boom (even makeshift one) got rid of the keyboard *thump thump thump* when typing. Thanks for the tutorial. Really helped to simplify the concept down to just 6 keys.

    Thank you for the best tutorials for Obsidian! Clear and so useful! Question, when I’m in the Title Area and hit “Tab” to start my markdown, it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t go down to the markdown area to start my notes. Any suggestions on why this is not working?
