This guy actually plays more gigs than probably anyone on the planet. He's not like those guys that have to have a band to play he just goes out there and does it alone or with anybody. No one out their is really doing as much that i know of and if you know of anyone out there that is let me know and posts some links. "J" is the man as far as i'm concerned. Ain't seen anybody doing what he is doing!
I like how he points out when you're getting started it's good to embrace what you do know that you can write with, before you advance to a point where you often plateau and get stuck in a rut. Absolutely true in my case, really good advice for beginners.
My girl got that same Jay Mascis signature Jazzmaster. The thing is so great, I am continuously shocked by the tone and playability of it considering it is a Squire. And of course it is sexy as hell. I don't know if there is a better guitar out there for that $300-$400 price range. I am so glad to see him rocking it when he is surrounded by a ton of other beautiful and probably vintage guitars.
Your Squire Jazzmaster is really a great Guitar, it really changed my opinion of Fender guitars (as in starts or tele's) Very good design and great looks too.
Yo i certainly hope whatever contract J signed with Fender (and squier, under them for their version of his model) was in J's favor. Everyone and their mother, including me, has his fucking signature Jazzmaster. and it's an amazing guitar to modify and make your own. I HOPE he's seeing some of that $$ he definitely deserves it. We all have one
I heard somewhere that it's going to be, or is about to be discontinued. The trem version of the new Deluxe models (the Candy Apple Red ones) are essentially the Mascis without his name on them. He's not the only one, I've read that Squier's getting rid of all the signature models they do. I've yet to try a Squier deluxe for myself, but I would really like a Red version of my Mascis!
Benjamin Thomas Oh shit! If it's true that they are discontinuing the J Mascis model soon, I'll be really bummed since I'm just looking into getting one and at the time I don't have the money for it. Even though I have yet to try the guitar, I will buy it as soon as I get the money. :(
So true about starting out playing and being able to make songs and riffs without getting into ruts and playing the same type of stuff over and over. I've been in the longest rut I blame Winter. Slowly starting to get inspired again. Sometimes it helps to just step away from your instrument for a bit so when you pick it up again it's fun and fresh!
dude I saw dino jr last year and let me just say that it was literally the loudest show of my fucking life. You could literally feel the amps & PA hitting you. I couldn't hear properly for 3 days but it was awesome.
What J said about feeling the guitar is so true. There's nothing better in my opinion that great earplugs in while playing a fuzz at unlistenable levels. Sit right in front of the and feel that air moving
I got one a month ago and I'm stuck even more in my garage. I got it running through a fender champion micd into a harbinger pa system. I cannot stop fucking with this guitar, every time i feel a different vibe a sound when I run it through pedals. I play country, jazz, hard rock on this guitar and always a good tone for whatever genre. Love this guitar!
T.I.N Mateus It's very easy to find on E Bay. As soon as you type in J Mascis Jazzmaster they will appear. I got mine at guitar center. It was the only Jazzmaster they had
You dont know how much i sweat J Mascis. Hes most of what i figure out on guitar. I loved the martin and me album when it came out cuz thats what i play acoustic. I cant do his solos thats my weak point but he rules thats all.
@@Hevvvyyy it actually comes stock pretty great! Played one the other day and for 400 bucks not bad at all! You get alot of guitar for the money and to be honest it's a sexy guitar! That off white and gold 😍.
This video makes me feel like I’ve climbed some steep mountain and j was at the top as some sort of guitar sensei teaching me all of his wisdom
😂😂😂

Ty Segall might be somewhere near
He really has to do some audiobooks.
I'd personally finance erotic audiobooks read by J Mascis.
or some ASMR

Who is sexier , the guitar or your girl xD
I could listen to him talk about guitars for 5 hours
I’ve been listening to him play guitar for 30+ years. I hope I have another 30 to go.

Darrien Day i always manage to spot your comments in music/guitar related videos. Youre a cool dude judging from what you always have to say
The J Mascis signature is my primary guitar out of 30 others. They're wicked to begin with, and easy to mod
Darrien Day Unless you're left handed like me and Jazzmasters just don't exist to us.

Dude should be a motivational speaker. Corporations would pay big money for him to speak to employees to work harder and up production.
Lol
I’d tone is so rad. It’s so gritty with fuzz but yet so clear , amazing !

i think Dino are one of the band that you still cool if you go their show with earplug
The only band I’ve heard who were louder were My Bloody Valentine. They were so loud it hurt.
the slacker hendrix
SOM ORN Hendrix was a bigger slacker than j

What kind of great earplugs do you recommend?
One of my all time favorites
His Jazzmaster is one of my favorite guitars. Highly recommend for the price!

He plays like he talks.....kinda mellow, even when it gets intense.
I have that same model guitar and it's so much fun play
Jason Clark I really wanna buy that Squier,is there something about it,that bothers you,how do you find it?
T.I.N Mateus It's very easy to find on E Bay. As soon as you type in J Mascis Jazzmaster they will appear. I got mine at guitar center. It was the only Jazzmaster they had
Jason Clark thnaks I decided to go with a MIM Standard Tele.

Dude is an amazing song writer, the soloing is just the cherry on top to me.
I love the fact hes playing a squire jazz master
Damn it does look nice, it's a decent price as well

It’s his signature model. They’re great
@@emmaverse8816 yeah, i just bought one, and i really prefer it over my les paul. i just realized that i’m more of a single coils guy.
Hope some day they come to Spain.... it would be just one of the most important concerts in my life.
Can somebody give me the chord progression of the first song(0:00-1:30)?
I love this man, he’s a gawwwd
When I hear him talk he reminds me of some guy who's had a very bad experience with LSD and never recovered from it
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
So humble so amazing. Lost breed.
J really needs to chill out
Really
No doubt
Truth
He’s outta control
If you play this at 1.25 it sounds like J is talking at a normal pace :D
And it's still slow lol
Chill dude
Coolest guitarist since Hendrix.
1:35 does anybody know the title of this song?
99% sure it's not one of his songs... probably just improv.
Always suspected Borat was part of his tone.
Read the comment and looked back to the video and there he was staring at me smiling
Anybody knows if the riff at the beginning is some song of Dinosaur Jr??
Teach me your secrets dinosaur man!
Who is that picture of at 2:46?
Blaine Gabbert Nick Cave
Niiiiick Cave!!
Blaine Gabbert Birthday Party years of Nick Cave..
nick fucking cave.
Haa.. J is the man!
Reminds me of frank zappa
Couldn’t love J more
What song is he playing at the beginning? It soo familiar.
Dude where can I get that hat? I’ve seen him wear it before and I’ve searched forever for it with no luck.
Mishka NYC
@@mari_domingo thanks!
Has anyone ever seen this guy smile?
Look for the video of him playing punk drums
Guitar Moves with Matt
whats the song at the beggining?
J is a robot with the 1/2 half speed setting button in his back.
J, how loud do you like it?
J- Yes !!
What ?
What song is he playing during the intro??
omg he uses a squire
His own signature model, great bang for the buck for sure! :)
Squier*
PASALO ANAFTA MAESTRO
If you could get James Hetfield for an episode of String Theory, that'd be so great
One dislike. What a DOUCHE.
lol
dude is he stoned or this just how he is ?
He's a straight edge, I think. It's just how he is.
I wonder if he is in character, pretentious and a little mad genius.
I met J Mascis once and I promise you he's just extremely laconic and calm
dead inside ? ..jesus krist.....
who gives a f@$k about who made them as long as they are new. I do love J Mascis and understand he has a family to feed.
I can barely understand him
I think he needs more practice......On obtaining a personality...
no no no no... Marcis is already signed up for the sequel to Spinal Tap; don't change a thang...
