Harri, this song was recorded for the Season 2 Premiere episode of "Miami Vice". Glenn Frey (pronounced "FRY", like French Fry, not "Fray") portrayed the character of Jimmy the pilot in a Season 1 episode titled "Smuggler's Blues" (Season 1 Episode 15), which was based on his song of the same name.

Great flashback to the 80s and Miami Vice. Glenn Frey actually appeared a couple times on the show. Crockett and Tubbs were the coolest detectives around. Great song and great reaction. 👍

Crockett and Tubbs and Miami Vice gave birth to so many Glenn Frey songs.....and....so many neon colored clothes. God but I miss the 70s and 80s. This song almost has a mournful sound, but it is so haunting and beautiful. Miami, Nice!!!!!

Good stuff, Dave...the sax in this song is it's calling card. When Frey and Henley started releasing singles from their solo careers, it was easy for me to see how each had left their thumbprint on certain Eagles songs from their different styles and sound. Great reaction and perspective, Harri, spot on!

PNC, thank you, and I agree about Frey and Henley being central to The Eagle's overall sound.

This song is soooooo 80's! It gets me so overly nostalgic every time I hear it, it almost hurts. I miss the 80's. It reminds me, as a kid back then, I had a sweater with a drawing of the 2 Miami Vice characters as cartoon mice and it was written Miami Mice.😄 I loved that sweater!

Great request, Dave Bzen! Harri, Glenn Frey dabbled in acting, too, appearing in TV series episodes for "Miami Vice" (the TV soundtrack album this song was made for) and "Nash Bridges" (also starring "Miami Vice" star Don Johnson) and the Tom Cruise movie "Jerry Maguire." "You Belong to the City" reached No. 2 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 pop singles chart, and was kept out of the top spot by Starship's "We Built This City." (A great pop week for urban dwellers! :-) )

The opening of the video is a direct homage to Jazz saxist Sonny Stitt who practiced his instrument on the Brooklyn Bridge late at night so he could blow as powerfully as necessary without complaint.

The late great Glenn Frey was originally from Detroit and was steeped in classic RnB like his fellow Detroit rocker Bob Seger. You could hear it in much of his solo work like this one. He had a saxophone in many of his solo hits

Written by the late Glenn Frey, RIP, and Jack Tempchin. JT wrote a few songs when GF was with The Eagles 🦅
You Belong to the City was written for the TV 📺 show Miami Vice starring Don Johnson. This song also appeared in the GF album The All-Nighter.
I remember this song on 80s pop radio 📻.
Don Johnson sang the song Heartbeat 💓.
He attended ACT in my hometown San Francisco. 🌁 After graduation, he moved to Hollywood. He married actress Melanie Griffith, daughter of actress Tippy Herrin, who started in the Alfred Hitchcock film 🎥 The Birds 🐦. Actress Dakota Johnson is the daughter of DJ and MG.
After Miami Vice, Don Johnson returned to SF and starred in Nash Bridges with Cheech Marin. I did see DJ a
during that series. He was nice to me! 👌
Glenn Frey appeared in 1 episode.
GF and Jack Tempchin wrote a song for the movie 🎥 Thelma and Louise. Suggested video 📹: Glenn Frey sings Part of Me, Part of You.
