    I live in scotland, usually lovely water, spent my entire life not even being aware that hard water was a thing. All of a sudden a few months ago I start finding it hard to get soap to lather properly, dish soap, shower gel etc. I expect this is the reason. Real pain in the arse.

    I've got a question here.
    I probably live in an area with hard water coming from the taps, but I have got RO installed for drinking purposes.
    Should I use the RO water (used for drinking) or the water RO machine throws away after filtering (usually drained)?
    Or completely dropping either of these and adopting some other method would help me?
    Any advice and help would be appreciated.
    Thanks. :)

      RO water is considered dead water because it doesnt contain any electrolytes. I would advise fitting a remineralise cartridge after the RO and before the faucet. This would put in essential electrolytes

    My water takes forever for soap to rinse off, leaves a slimy/slippery feeling, makes my hair feel soft (which I don't like), and generally you never feel completely rinsed off because your entire body feels slimy/slippery. I'm guessing I have soft water then?

    • @scottjenkinswatersofteners1643
      @scottjenkinswatersofteners1643  6 лет назад +26

      Thank you for your comment and this is one of my favourites. The "slimy" feeling otherwise known as "silky" is due to the fact that there is no chalk and scum present on your body. This video form 1.30 explains why this is silky and not "squeaky clean." Basically slimyness = clenliness and once you are dry you will feel moisturised and not dried out. Or as I like to put it "reptillian"

    • @cornellgrad17
      @cornellgrad17 5 лет назад +1

      Soap can't lather in hard water, that's why they put EDTA in body cleaning products: to bind to the ions so the soap can clean you. Ergo, soft water is technically ideal. :)

      Thank you, @scottjenkinswatersofteners1643, for reaching out. I am actually referring to a low level of hard water, which is more like the early stages of well water turning into hard water. Unfortunately, I cannot afford a water test at the moment. However, I have developed eczema since moving to my new place, and I suspect that the water supply may be the cause. While the water doesn't taste metallic or have a strong odour, it can sometimes have a mildly sour taste.

      Ahsen Shah, thank you for your comment.
      This is rather a broad question, softening water uses Ion exchange which removes magnesium and calcium (predominantly chalk) so technically that is filtration. However a particular filter system can soften water but the delivery would not be able to cope with the demand. Thus we have different systems for different requirements.
      The kinetico product range far surpasses any other on the market. Our clients such as the NHS, Savoy, Royal Mint, Buckingham Palace to name but a few. Our products are not just global we even have our filtration systems in space!!
      Here is a video on reverse osmosis, the filtration system I have in my home accompanied by the Premier Compact.
      ruclips.net/video/Fues-xFxiEQ/видео.html
      I hope this answers your question, please let me know if not.

      It sounds as if you have soft water. My parents' house have soft water directly from the mains while my apartment has hard water. I can definitely tell the difference when I bathe at their home versus my place... I actually have to use a shower gel at my place, while a regular bar of soap is sufficient at my parents'. I also notice that my white and bright clothes generally get more clean when I wash them at my parents' but tend to look rather dingy when I wash them at the launderette near my place.

    Mr. Jenkins,
    Is there any other way to eliminate the minerals in hard water besides a softener?

    • @scottjenkinswatersofteners1643
      @scottjenkinswatersofteners1643  5 лет назад

      Dear Emma Jachowski, thank you for your great question.
      Unfortunately not, there are products which claim to reduce the damage caused by the minerals. This involves changing the molecular structure of the elements however, this is only temporary as the structure will reform.
      Remembering that the only minerals a softener will remove is magnesium and calcium. This can only be done through Ion exchange.
      I hope that is clear please let me know if it isn't or if you would like more detail.
      Best wishes,
      Scott

      Actually, it has been proven that if you boil the hard water, then the minerals such as calcium and magnesium will exit the hard water.

      Lizzie Vlogs many thanks for your comment. When hard water is boiled the minerals come out if suspension. This is known as "precipitation" and will clump together and eventually, as the water cools sink to the bottom. The surface water will contain less calcium and magnesium yet the minerals will not exit the water. For example, chalk or calcium carbonate can not be evaporated. It will get left behind. This is a great way to look at the water cycle. When it rains it rains naturally soft water, when it hits the ground it will percolate through to the bedrock (which would be chalk in a hard water area). Then ultimately as it makes its way around it will evaporate leaving the minerals behind and then start the cycle again.

      Nine Man many thanks for your question... zero hardness is always good!
      If you have salty water you must contact your water softener engineer.
