    I used it to create a basic app in Streamlit that takes an excel spreadsheet, displays it on screen, adds some filters in a sidebar and conditionally formats the filters values. Throw in some graphs etc. 👍

      Can you share the prompt you used and did you run into any errors?

    I'm just sick of all that home lab crap on youtube. I mean we had LAMP and SSH the decades prior and then YT recommended your channel. This is the real stuff !! Subbed.

    Do you have tried Aider? It's similar to GPT-Engineer but you choose the files it will work and it work in them navigating in previously created code bases.

    No it cannot create an entire codebase, unless u want a codebase of examples, placeholders, incogruent code, fantasy libraries and ghost statements..

    If you have a project and you want to change it slightly (incrementally) via prompts, can gpt-engineer do that?

    • @IanWootten

      No, I don't believe so - might want to check out my video on aider.

    I can't seem to find where/how to add the openai key, any help? i ran it inside the gpt-engineer folder but it says that: 'export' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

      Setting environment variables is different depending on your system type. If you're on windows you can use "SET": stackoverflow.com/questions/55500857/how-can-i-set-the-environment-variables-in-windows

    do you know where the API key stored when set it ? i can run the project just wondering.

    • @IanWootten
      @IanWootten  Год назад +1

      It's not stored anywhere - By default the openai python lib reads the environment variable and gpt-engineer uses that library. If the environment variable in the session isn't set it won't work.

    But what’s the benefit given that there are already free versions like Amazon’s?

    • @IanWootten
      @IanWootten  Год назад +4

      Really - what's amazon's product called? The only AI code tool I know of from them is Whisperer, which offers hints through an IDE rather than create the files themselves.

    this is a rip off. he starts by pretending hes creating a full fledge game but half way (he has his video stats now for adds) he changes to a stupidly simple file read application. waste of time

      Hey Jose, I did try and create a game with this and made sure it wasn't the default prompt. It failed and based on the code produced felt it wasn't worth pursuing. So I tried a simpler example. I think showing the fact it wasn't able to do this is genuinely useful to people to show it's strengths.
      I've written publicly about how much this video has made in ad revenue to date in my newsletter and it's not much at all.
