- It is my first time eating Malaysian food and I am completely blown away. The different flavors just mix ever so well on my taste buds. I can't wait to try more traditional Malaysian cuisine.
Malaysian cuisine looks delicious. Thank you Alex for this video it made me very hungry just watching it and wished we had a Malaysian restaurant out here in Hawaii to try but I’m not sure we have one. The seafood omelette looks delicious and if Palm said it’s better than Thailand then I take her word for it. Curious to know what you would classify the noodles with the syrup. I was expecting a savory taste but I guess it would be odd to mix sweet with rice noodles. The plate lunch looked amazing as well.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jon! I agree, the food is too goof to pass on 😋
chinese called the noodle with syrup as chee cheong fun. Its sweet a bit spicy a bit salty flat noodle. Its not very popular in malaysia but everywhere there is chinese there is chee cheong fun.
Malaysia is a melting pot of Asian cultures and foods.. everything is here..
I love Penang.. You guys really make me drooling..such a delicious foods especially the Penang nasi kandar ..😋😆 👍🇲🇾❤️

While you're there check out laksa which is a noodle soup, you get various kinds such as assam and curry. I dish I discovered for the first time on my last visit was chilli pan mee and was lovely. Finally no visit to Malaysia is complete without trying nasi lemak(coconut steamed rice with the weirdest accompniments lol) nor roti canai (flaky flat bread)with teh tarik (pulled tea). I'm glad you tried char kway teow, it's just not made the same here in the UK
Wow thank you for the suggestions I'll definitely have to have a look and try em!!

Oooohhhh man, the street food looks so good. Looking forward to visit Penang. My dad had visited there ages back in 1984 for the Penang Regatta and used to be buy western music cassettes from there which I used to listen to when I was a kid. Can you please advise which places in Malaysia is similar to Penang and has a nice chilled vibe. Planning to visit May/June. Hahahahah the english subtitles says 'Nancy condom' lmao.
Hahaah that's the problem with auto caption 😅
Thank you for sharing your interesting story. Unfortunately, I'm very new to Malaysia and couldn't give you an accurate answer. I hope one of my Malaysian viewers can give you advice 😁
@@Livingabroadalex no worries. Enjoy your travels n look forward to seeing more food.

It's incredible!
You need to be here (Malaysia) until 23/3/2023 or until the end of March for you to feel an experience you can't forget.. Believe what I say & you will definitely like it..
Oh? What happens then?
23 March is the beginning of Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslim. Throughout Ramadan, there will be lots of food bazaars on the streets normally starting at 4 pm until 7 pm. You will get to taste lots of delicious foods and delicacies🤤
Oh ok! Sounds like a great time!
im excited to watch u guys reaction when arriving in kl!!
looking forward to it!!save travel u both❤
We just arrived!! Check out the "community" tab on the channel for a couple of photos
I don't know if anyone answered ur question on what "kandar" actually is in ur comments. The backstory to this is that in the olden days there were traders who would go around and carry their wares via a long stick which is tied on both ends and carried on their shoulders. These long sticks are called "kandar". So basically nasi kandar was the food that was sold through this method. In the end the name just stuck eventhough the "kandar" itself is not used anymore
Oh wow! That's so interesting. Thank you for informing me. Welcome to the channel Ridzz 🥳
@@Livingabroadalex the name stucked because the ethnic selling Nasi Kandar was Muslim Indians. They're the ones who owns most Nasi Kandar restaurants and joints, and their distinguished way of cooking makes their food unique..
Wow very interesting. Thank you for letting me know😊
6:20 this restaurant is top 2 Deen maju is 4 or 5 like that the top 1 first in Penang and Malaysia is Kampung melayu that super delicious wow

Hehe it's delicious 😋
The way u eat nasi kandar juz like locals do 🤩 Plenty more dishes for u to try out, hav fun guys
That's such a compliment 😍 thank you!!
@@Livingabroadalex Kandar means carry.. In the old days, the rice, dish & gravy is carried on the shoulders from one place to another....
That's so interesting. Thank you ☺️
@@Livingabroadalex & now, we also called it as Nasi Mamak... 'Mamak' means Indian Muslim in Malaysia...
glad you enjoy the food
It's our pleasure 😊
Haven't been home to Malaysia 5 years I can't wait to go home next year
Hope you come back soon!
All good foodie ❤
It's delicious 😋
Sambal means Chilli Paste. Sometimes there are only squished chillies, sometimes some extra ingredients added such as lime, onion, coconut oil, etc. Yes, they are not meant to be eaten on its own like you did.. hehe...
Oh my bad lol. It was delicious still. Thank you for the info ☺️
Each person has different tastebuds... and different favorites....
I like satay, the chicken and beef skewers dish, the most
Yea it's so tasty!
Malaysian food looks really tasty Alex you and Palm seem to really like it 😋👍🆒😎
Hehe she does like it. So do I 👌😋

The food there looks really delicious
Thanks Brian! It really was 😋
Nasi kandar guide 101:
Mix gravy - Kuah Campur-Campur
Fried chicken - ayam goreng
White rice - Nasi putih
Awesome! I gotta go with that next time 😊
Hameediyah sambal is the best in the world n its should mix together with the curry n rice. my mouth watering saw ur vlog bro...i think i need go to Hameediyah right now
Haha thanks Alam! I guess I ate it wrong 🤭😅
nasi kandar is rice mix with different type of curry thats why u see that man jumping from each curry to other.. thats what make it a different than normal curry rice
Ohhhhhhh that makes sense now. I thought it might something like that, but didn't know for sure. Thank you ☺️
The word “char” is in a Chinese dialect/language you’re not familiar with. In another dialect the word sounds like “chow”. So in the US it would be chow kway teow. Chow or char means “fried”. Chow mein = fried noodles, chow kway teow = fried flat rice noodles
Ohhhhhhhh. Thank you for that 😁
At nasi kandar... Not all people can do gravy mixing suit to what you order... This guy ( local call them jockey 😁😁) play really important role to prepare a good nasi kandar final results...
jockey @ gravy mixer maybe had experience more than 10 years doing that to get precise action on each and every customer order....
Whoa. That's so interesting. Good to know 👌🤝😊
Southeast Asian food rocks 🇲🇾🇮🇩🇹🇭
It truly does!! 😍
10:30 next time order fried mee bihun mix double triple eeg 👍

After you've experienced Malaysian old school street food, there's no turning back. You'll keep coming back for more. Lol!😅✌️
It sure seems that way 😋
A lot of foods - varies among races, among states
You're right Ahmad! I'm excited to try more ☺️
@@Livingabroadalex I'm from the south state of Johor so Penang food is not my palette, but I think the best food I've ever taste is still in the East coast of Peninsula Malaysia where I actually gained body weight from all the delicious food out there 😂😂
Oh ok haha
I've gained a ton of weight too
You know what. F it I'm gonna fly one day to Malaysia and never came back
We take our food seriously bro.

Hi Zurina! What is "makan" ?
@@Livingabroadalex makan means eat
Oh!! Awesome 😋
Come Come stay in M'sia
Everyday nice food
Sleep also think of food
Absolutely!!
That is chee cheong fun
Pls tell me honestly, can you get usd 4 in Canada with so much on the table?
You can barely get a coffee. The prices at those restaurants are incredible in Penang. Unless you want a lamb shank, which I saw for 40-60 ringgit
@@Livingabroadalex as I said avoid lamb shank, giant squid and prawn you are safe
Yes I remember. It really opened up my eyes 👀
@Living abroad but in Japan it is the opposite ya. Seafood is cheaper there compared to chicken, pork, mutton.
Whoa really? I've never been to a country where that's the case. But I guess it makes sense since they're a huge island and love seafood
yeah if like spicy nasi kandar hameediyah & nasi kandar ipd suit you.. others not too spicy.. deen maju really bland for me😂😂😅
Oh 😅
Woowww
😋
Malaysia is a country that starts with M.
😋
😍😍😍😍
😋
only rm20 for 3 plate? dang
2 plates. The other was our friend's 🤭
Hameediyah nasi kandar
🤤
I think that sambal you mean is not sambal. Maybe it is a chutney.
Hmmm that's what the guy said. But maybe I misunderstood 🤷🏿♂️
@@Livingabroadalex no problem. It is delicious to eat with dosa.
Eat rice with spoon brother...
Why?
MY so dirty one spoon diff gravy
There is no such thing as Malaysian food. There are Malay food ( specialties in the different states) and there are also ethnicities like Jawa, Acheh, Padang and Bugis with their own special dishes. Next would be a wide variety of Chinese cuisine from different groups such as Cantonese or Hokkien food. We can find Indian food ( Tamil, malayalee, Telugu, Ceylonese and Punjabi). Not to forget Iban, Kadazan and delicacies from various ethnic groups in Sarawak and Sabah. There are Thais who are also Malaysian citizen with their own Thai dishes.
That is too much food.
I know! But I got too excited and wanted to try everything 😅
@@Livingabroadalex take it easy bro. No rush. Kl has good food too although penang is better
Bro just taste Chinese food all day. You better go china instead
Sedap ke,? Tak sedap ke ?
