Thanks for the information! I'm wondering about mosquitos and their larvae, does a swimmteich attract these? We live in a very mosquito rich area and our main concern is giving them a breeding ground, which we absolutely don't want. Thanks for answering this question!

We can state: we definitely do not have more mosquitos than before.
The thing is: Yes, we do have mosquito larvae in the water (we see them only at night when we turn on the lights). But at the same time we have newts and birds and probably other living "things" that feed on that larvae. And do not forget: there are no plants at all and that is probably another reason why we do not have a mosquito plague.....
So, I can assure you: a swimmteich will never turn out to be a breeding ground for mosquitos!

I don't understand how the nutrients finish. When the algae dies they decomposes and become nutrients again. Also all the bugs and leaves that live and die in the pool add to the nutrients of the pool.
A stagnant pool in nature doesn't suddenly become crystal clear.
Can you help me understand how this works? And what's the disadvantage of adding plants?
